We have too much cash in reserve with the opportunity to make even more cash to be sweating over last seasons spend (we still made a profit last year)

Whether we think the signings are rubbish or amazing or anything else in between, we should still be strengthening rather than agonizing over last years window.

I actually do think they will spend the kuhn money for what its worth.

To be fair, 25m or so for 3 players isnt big money. Thats what we got for Matt ORiley. If we are happy to sell our best players, reinvesting the money in a few players for the price of one should be a minimum expectation rather than thinking we are spending loads.

Engels book value currently is probably what we paid so while hes not been great, we probably havent lost anything on him. Neither Trusty or Idah signings really made sense to me. Weve overpaid on both but even assuming a 50% loss on both its really not that big a deal in the context of player sales and money we have in the bank.

I dont think Rodgers is complicit in anything.

“In January, I didn’t want him to have to play in that position because I wanted the squad to be as strong as we could,” Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“But I felt that if we didn’t get a striker, there’s no doubt he can play there. ”

    We didn’t replace him.

Rodgers said at the time Maeda can play through the middle but we need to replace Kyogo. We didn’t choose to buy Jota and not buy a striker, we went into January needing a winger as we left it too late in the summer to get one in and failed leaving us to flog Maeda and Kuhn for the first half of the season. That’s why we bought Jota.

We made a substantial offer for Strelec in January but his team wanted more.

So it’s not really an analogy that we didn’t replace Kyogo, we actually didn’t and to date our effort to replace him is Yamada for about £1.25m.

Last season we made a pretty substantial transfer profit.

We spent about £31m in the summer and sold players for about £39m.

In January we sold players for about £15m and spent about £8m.

We were around £15m up in transfers and we will have made an OPEX profit of more than that too.

The above doesn’t include we got a sell on from Giakoumakis’s move from Atlanta to Mexico and Frimpongs move to Liverpool which together would be worth over £6m.

This season we’ve sold Kuhn for about £17m, Lagerbielke for £2.25m, Kwon now too and a few youth players so brought in north of £20m and spent about £3m. So £17m up so far this window.

So over the last season we are currently around £38m up in transfer activity over the course of the last year basically. So despite Idah, Engels and Trusty not being major successes to varying degrees we are still massively in profit from our player trading activities.

That doesn’t include two years of net profits that will average out to at least 15m a season.

We then have a number of players on our books in Johnston, CCV, Hatate and Maeda that could be sold for a decent profit on the fees we paid and guys out on loan with obligations or options to buy.

Rodgers is complicit in the regards he’s told them to go out spend on those players then they are not fit for purpose then criticise the board and the board at fault here too but if a manager goes buys idah for example spend 9 million you expect him to then go on take the mantle as number 1 striker like what happened with edouard but he hasn’t that’s on the manager then you would start to wonder do you make another high level punt on the managers say so

Celtic’s preparations for the upcoming campaign ended in the best possible way tonight (Saturday, July 26) as the Celts defeated Al-Ahli 5-4 on penalties after the 90 minutes ended in a 1-1 draw.

The match saw Celtic come from a goal behind to clinch the victory and there was also a first appearance for Japanese forward, Shin Yamada, who scored the winning penalty in the shootout.

Brendan Rodgers and his side will now look ahead to the beginning of the league campaign next Sunday, and speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the Celtic boss praised the work of his team in Como tonight.

“Pre-season is all about fitness, but it’s also about togetherness and spirit,” he said. “And the players showed that in the second half.

“There were changes to the game, but the boys came in and did well. And in the second half the younger players gave that nice little spark to the game.

‘The squad is in a really good place, and the guys that are here have worked very hard.’

“The guys who have been with us from the first day and the guys coming in have put so much in to it.

“We’ll go back, have a really good week when we get home and we’ll look forward to the first game of the season next Sunday.”

Asked if he was expecting any signings soon, Rodgers admitted, "I don't know, I haven't had any sort of update as of yet.

"But I'm very hopeful that'll be the case, I think we know that we want to improve the squad, so we're hoping that'll be the case."

Combine that with the 'depends on your ambition' quote day before - we clearly have a huge chasm between board and coach.

Plus the fact it was all offset by O'Rileys sale, Kyogo basically swapped for Jota. We made transfer profit regardless of the value for money for those signings anyway.

Not even spending close to half the Kuhn + Frimpong money yet is a farce.

Hopefully the little tournament in Italy has highlighted the fact we need quality players in key positions in the team, the lack of depth in our squad is alarming, we have got rid of some deadwood in the squad but we need some quality players to improve the team, stop * about Brendan, kick some doors down as we will not tolerate the team going backwards.

That's a no then and no updates as there's nothing happening on any transfers. What a cluster *!

Rodgers will complete this season and for him that will be job done, not a chance he stays any longer and who could blame him.

Still think there's a big outgoing or two in August then it's a last week scramble, net profit on transfers will be handsome as per....

See the thing is if we weren’t being run like a junior club on the footballing side unless a better offer came along I could have seen him staying. I think he likes being seen as successful and the main man up here but I suspect the background nonsense that is clearly going on around recruitment and given Rodgers background in youth coaching I cannot imagine he is happy with the academy set up here, he will be for the off as it can’t be a pleasant environment in which to work.

There'll also be the feeling in his head that he's only known success here but it will ultimately come to an end at some point..

Failing to back him and the law of averages the huns win the league again if he signs a new deal, won't be something he's too keen to be here a part of..

I'd rather he stayed but think he'll want to bow out on a high having regained the backing of the support..

Where does he think he will end up? I honestly don't think many clubs in England will touch him ( as in top clubs)

He has been down there now a few times and but only shown real success up here.

I cant think of many clubs that would take him especially that we could basically be in CL every year and win a majority of trophies here.

I like Rodgers....But if he committed himself for a longer time here i think the Board would open up a little more...The fans would pressure them more etc etc.

But his Transfers are all over the place and i actually understand why the board are reluctant to give him another £20 million plus considering how it was spent last season.

The board are utter * but we are stuck between a rock and a hard place here....Giving the manager a lot of money that could be spent on * again and then Rodgers leaves in 12 months and we need to restart again under a new manager.

Yes the board are * tory dinosaur fuckwits and a majority of us want them gone as they hold us back...But this season is gonna be a * of Fans Vs Board....Manager Vs Board..Fans Vs Manager etc...

I honestly aint looking forward to this at all as it stands.....With CL qualifiers just around the corner our squad is kinda *....Thats on the board and Scouting.

Feels almost inevitable now and when he does I hope he speaks bluntly about why he is choosing to leave again. Very few fans will blame him this time round.

Why hes leaving again? Because he said he would 3 years ago. There's litterly nothing else in it. Could spend 500m this season, hes still going.

I agree his stock in England has never been lower and if we're being honest it probably factored in to his thinking in coming back here but the flip side of it is he's now 2 years in and finds himself in exactly the same circumstances he left with the board refusing to back him. I agree over his career his recruitment hasn't been great and that was my main concern in him coming back but he has had a very successful 2 years here now and has progressed us in Europe as he set out to do but again seems to have hit a brick wall with the board. The fact his signings don't represent value for money isn't a reason not to back him imo all have played important roles in their time here regardless of price tag
