Puts in a shift and another good showing from him. Wouldn't be in a rush to sell him just yet.

Johnny Kenny has vowed to push to compete with countryman Adam Idah - and another other strikers who might arrive at Celtic before the end of the window

Kenny followed up his pre-season winner against Queen’s Park two weeks ago with the second goal to take the wind out Newcastle United’s sails in the 4-0 pre-season rout.

The 22-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Shamrock Rovers, missed a huge opportunity shortly beforehand.

But Kenny ran himself into the ground and has now set his targets for the season with a clear message to Brendan Rodgers

He said: “Of course. I want to go out every day in front of the manager and make a claim for the position.

“Obviously there’s going to be a lot of rotation but I want to be in there chipping in with goals for this amazing club.

The more competition the better. Every day is a challenge at big clubs.

Adam is my fellow countryman and us Irish look after each other and he’s been brilliant with me since I came back in through the door.

Daizen (Maeda) too. He’s a joy to play with. You can never write him off, he’s amazing. To play with someone like that is a joy.

“It was great to get a run out again. To get a goal was a bonus.

“The manager has been brilliant with me, giving me the opportunity to play against big opposition. I just want to take it and learn every day.

It was a tough test physically and mentally but we handled it very well. The manager said before the game we can beat them with the pace on the ball and moving the ball and we were very good that way.”

I like his work rate and attitude. He's only 22 . Worth loaning him out though, needs game time.nnot guaranteed here

Hibs already have a couple of decent strikers and Aberdeen fans throw strops when they loan players from us.

Dundee, Falkirk or st Mirren would give him far better chance of regular game time

I wish Idah put in the same effort as Kenny. Very good showing from but today, apart from the missed sitter.

Think he’s at the stage we either play him, give him the chance or we sell him.

I think he’s showed enough end of the season and how he’s approached pre-season, he’s been highlighted in training as well as the friendlies, a season on loan I don’t think at this stage of his development helps much for a Celtic career, better than not playing definitely but if we rate him and think he’ll make it here, then he’s good enough for me to trust him now as 3rd choice at least, to bring him into games and nurse into a full first team player.

30-40 appearances this season, not full games but gametime is what I want. I really like him as a player, he has so much to like about his game. He’s rapid dangerous in behind but he’s strong, can hold the ball up and link up. He’s getting himself into dangerous areas and making chances, not been very clinical but that’ll come. If not this season for him though, then he’ll be surplus.

I think he has potential tbh.

Wasn't convinced previously but he's fast, a nightmare to mark at times and will work his * off. I think he'd quite comfortably score goals for us.

For those who are in love.....
You can see how far he's come on in pre season from his cameo appearances at the end of last season..

His link up play is streets ahead of where it was. Very very impressive and surprised as i didn't think he had that part to his game..

New contract, loan out with no option to buy. If he keeps improving then he has a future here as 1 of the 3 strikers down the line..

I would also keep Johnny Kenny, he's far too good to go out on loan.
Kenny has speed, directness, aggression and end product, valuable tools for Celtic to have in the upcoming season.

Kenny signing an extension and a straight loan to an SPL club is the best move for all parties. He needs to play regularly and I think that's too much of gamble with Celtic this season. His progression since he initially joined is obvious and he's been really sharp in pre season but he needs to keep that momentum going playing regularly.

Can anyone clarify the loan rules? I believe we are allowed loan a max of 6 first team players. At the minute we have 2 of those used with Holm and Nawrocki with Tilio and Palma set to join them so that would leave just two spots open.

I think I'd gamble with Inamura as our back up left back option until January, it's a risk but he has been really impressive in those friendlies. I think its also notable that Rodgers views him as more of a left back than centre back as we have opted to use him there and play a youth team right back at centre half. I think Murray has also earned his chance at getting some minutes this season. Can't see Osmand featuring much so a loan would be the best use for him. Out of our fringe players left I'd go.

    Sell:
    Kwon
    Montgomery
    Welsh

    Loan(max 2):
    Kenny
    Osmand

    Keep:
    Inamura
    Murray

Aye i wouldn't be selling him now.

6 month loan to another SPFL side and see where he's at in January.

Agreed with others that he's changed my mind. Has more development in him than I previously thought. I'd definitely be loaning him out to a Hibs/Aberdeen or English Championship side with an eye to having him be part of the first team squad next year.

Would not sell him. With him and Idah having the pre season under their belts,Kenny looks the more natural striker.
Depending on how Yamada performs, will determine if Kenny goes out on loan.

Looks like(hopefully) we will be scoring a lot of goals with our front men…..plus we are still sniffing about other strikers.

Have dundee united replaced that Dalby they had last season? If not then Kenny would be the ideal loan for all parties
