If is to go it needs to be after the Qualifier, we're light enough in the wide areas.

What if.... (?) Yamada is the new Maeda? We'd never heard of DM b4 he came in.
Then his pace and workrate were outstanding...but let's be honest some of his final balls from LW are awful...
Imagine Yamada has the same workrate & has same pace but better delivery...and we've just got £25m??? for Daizen?

Not saying I want Daizen to go but Yamada is supposedly quicker than Daizen.

I wouldn’t sell regardless for now. His value to us isn’t quantifiable so if he wants to go. I think Jan is when we look at it. But we need him, at least the next 6 months. We can’t replace what he offers us just now.

He can’t go for me. I genuinely don’t see how we can replace him if he does. We could bring in another player who creates and scores, * Jota on left wing when he’s back.

But that doesn’t come close to replacing the rest of his game.

I really hope we can hold on to him but it's going to be hard. He is the model professional footballer personified. As BR said he deserves everything he gets. One of my favourite players ever.

I do agree you can’t replace what he brings but say we get to the last week in August and get a 18m bid for instance, I’m not sure if you take it or leave it knowing its your last chance to get a fee. Well i know what our board will do.

The fact Rodgers was pushing a new deal last season and nothing has been signed would suggest he’s set on seeing out his deal

Genuinely think Brentford are for the drop this year with Frank leaving them and their most potent attacking threats not to mention their captain also leaving. Could be his kyogo to Rennes moment.

Aye with Frank leaving, I think Brentford would be a terrible move. I’d be amazed if they don’t go on a downward spiral after Frank.

I actually think £25m is * for him. He has some flaws but if he was in England or abroad hed be commanding at least double that. And it * me off that theres some bang average playersncommanding huge fees from a belgian, german or french team.

A song for our boys from the far east to the tune of viva la Quinte Brigada

    We've got wee shin yamada
Reo passing and daizen in full flight
Inamura was the talk around the turnstyle
Sometimes we play Yang on the right

Can't afford to sell him right now. We are already very light and have lost so many goals out the team this past 12 months.

It would be quite ominous if he goes.

At the start of the window, I accepted that we would inevitably lose some of our best players; but I said to myself that the 2 I was desperate to keep were Daizen and CCV.

Kühn was and Hatate is a very important player for us. It will be difficult to replace Kühn and would be difficult to replace Hatate. I'm not saying that we definitely can; but it is doable if the recruitment staff do a good job (big "if", I know). But CCV and Maeda are irreplaceable in the literal sense of the word. It's just not possible to replace them on our budget.

I should just clarify exactly what I mean by that. I'm not saying that we can never get players of that quality on our budget. Clearly we find someone ludicrously undervalued every few years, from Henrik and Lubo back in the day to Virgil and O'Riley more recently. The point is that these signings rely on either luck or insider knowledge or both (Larsson is the perfect example of that as Wim knew about the clause in his contract) and we have little control over when they happen and for what positions.

In other words, even if we were incredibly well run, you couldn't just tell the recruitment department to replace Daizen and CCV.

Hate to be that guy, but we absolutely COULD replace ccv and hatate if we sold them, because if we dropped even 80% of the transfer we get (assuming we get £20-25M each) we'd COMFORTABLY be able to get adequate replacement, and probably 2 of them each ( for a combined £32-40M spend)...

The problem is, we all know our board will NEVER sanction that... Therein lies the problem! We're stuck in a holding pattern of continuous risk and development, rather than progressive growth...

It's controversial maybe, but Daizen isn't actually all that fast v the very best.
In a 1 v 1 starting from the same place he very rarely runs away from the better defenders.
Kuhn actually had more electric speed in first few yards - although he rarely showed it.

But the sheer number of times Maeda sprints in a game and the duration he can continually sprint for - then yes, he's at another level.

He is irreplaceable like for like. Even with 25 million in yer sky rocket. That would be the same no matter who he played for though because he’s a unicorn in world football.

I don't think we should be recycling 80% of major transfers into their replacements. I think we'd very quickly start to make a loss if we did that.

Thing that worries me is Rodgers comments after the game yesterday plus prior about getting players out the door quicker if they are wanting to move on rather than late in the window like Kuhn.

I don't think Maeda is desperate to leave like Kuhn was though
