Have a good feeling about him tbh.

Think his attributes will certainly suit us more than Idah, on paper.

Shin Yamada is delighted to have joined Celtic and he can’t wait to get started and to do his job, which is to score goals.

The 25-year-old forward has signed for the Scottish Champions on a four-year deal from Kawasaki Frontale, and in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV, the latest addition to Brendan Rodgers’ squad admitted that he’s already been in contact with a couple of his team-mates.

“When I joined Kawasaki Frontale, Reo had already left, so I didn’t have a chance to meet him face-to-face,” Shin Yamada explained.

“However, after there was a rumour of me joining Celtic, I had a call with Reo and he told me it was a nice club and it was a privilege to play for this club.

“Of course, Reo and also Daizen and a lot of the other Japanese players have played here and performed well, and I would like to do the same or even beyond that.

“I got in contact with Inamura and spoke with him. He and the other Japanese players are here, so adapting to the environment, I think, will be smooth and quick.”

The forward, who recently won his first cap for the Japan national side, is hoping that playing with the Hoops will also boost his international fortunes, particularly with Japan having qualified for next summer’s World Cup.

And he’s looking forward to playing in front of the Celtic supporters.

“First of all I am a striker, so I need to do my job and will try to score goals,” he said. “My other strengths will be power and speed, so using these strengths I will try to score lots of goals.

“I will do my best to contribute in games for results and wins. So, to do that, please give me your support.”

So we were supposedly looking at him in January.

""I am really looking forward to playing as a Celtic player. I heard about the interest at the end of last year."

Brendan Rodgers welcomed the arrival of speed demon Shin Yamada

Japanese striker Yamada - dubbed quicker than Daizen Maeda - was paraded ahead of the demolition of Newcastle in the Adidas Cup showdown after clinching his £1.3m move from Kawasaki Frontale.

Meanwhile Rodgers reckons new boy Yamada can leave even Duracell bunny Maeda in his wake going by his stats.

He said: “His profile suits how he plays. He's one of the quickest players from the Japanese league - he's even quicker than Daizen and Kyogo in terms of statistics, and that's how we play, that speed in the top line.

“He gives that depth as well, so I'm really looking forward to seeing him come in and seeing what he can bring.

“All the Japanese players that we work with, they have intensity, they have fitness, and they have this momentum, this mentality to keep going, so we think he'll bring that, and hopefully we can develop him like we have the other players.”
