He is still young but this season is massive for his career with us.

Agreed, it might actually help having him come out the team as a starter for a wee while, as our midfield seemed to tick a lot better with a midfield 3 of McGregor, Hatate and Nygren.

Felt like we played through a high press really well last night largely due to them.

Would like to see him or Bernardo play the CDM role with Hatate and Nygren more advanced. McGregor still first choice 6 but he can’t keep playing every game - need to give him a rest to make sure we get the best out of him when we need it the most.

Nygren immediately looks like he'll raise the level of our midfield. Engels will be doing well to stay a first pick in there.

Sometimes you just know that a player just hasn't got it and I think Engles is one of those. I don't think he has the heart needed to fight in the midfield and, for a guy his size, he is powder puff. My good lady actually asked "what exactly does he do" during a game. Yes, he takes a good corner (which most professional players should be capable of) but appart from a few games when we are strolling it against lesser opposition, he has failed to impress. Hopefully I'm proved wrong but I doubt it

I still think he/we need to figure out what role is best for him.

Its not fair to compare hos creativity to MOR as its evident they're very different. He didn't play that role at Augsburg, either.

Still pretty confident he will improve. He's still so young noone can really say for definite either way tbh.

This is where I think Nygren will be massive for him. Instead of being required to be the O'Riely replacement he'll be able to drop deeper and offer more of a box to box game, while Nygren stays further forward.

Still only 21, he’ll be absolutely fine and would be more suited to a deeper role I think. With 2 creative players in front of like Hatate & Nygren he would thrive to be honest, just needs to be more physical.

You think Nygren and Engels will be playing in the same midfield regularly ?

When Hatate is injured/being rested yeah.
I imagine Engles & Hatate will rotate and McCowan & Nygren will.

Not given up hope on him but really needs to do more on a consistent basis.

Difficult to judge his first season I think because at an overall level the team played very well up until around December and then really struggled for any kind of consistency.

Most of the players pretty much fell into that pattern. Post December I felt it was really only Maeda that you felt confident would turn up week in, week out and put in a strong showing. Everyone else became pretty hit or miss.

With nygren arriving it looks like he is gonna have to earn his place rather than do his best to lose his place. See how he reacts, it could go either way. He needs to improve his pace over 3/4 yards. If that happened I think it would look easy to him being able to buy that extra second.

If Nygren is playing the 10 then I can't see us signing a holding mid and if we did you imagine it would push Engels down the pecking order as Mcgregor and Hatate would get more game time than him

No doubt he will come good but he is one of those weird players where its hard to name the attributes that stand out the most. Just semi-decent at about the most.

People obviously forgot about the spell of 6-7 games last season where he was out best player by far. You could also argue his best game for us was away to Bayern.

Ill say it again as People dont seem to understand it but 11mil DOES NOT buy you guaranteed quality straight away. It buys you potential. Give him a chance ffs

It is as if, buying a midfielder for £11mill has left fans expecting some dynamic, full of energy and gusto midfield maestro who is supposed to be involved in anything and everything both in attack and in defence.

Am I saying hes going to go on to blast out a season equal to MOR, no, but at the same time, fans were so quick to get on the back of MOR not being effective in his full debut season.

In his full debut season for us MOR scores 4 goals and 3 goals in the half season he had prior to that.

Engles on 10 in a single season in less minutes than MOR.

    * give the lad a chance to settle into the country and scenery, find his feet at the club, his debut season all things considered has been a good success.

Once he controls his shots like mor learned, he'll go up many levels.
