The wages of a reported 90k a week aren't as big a stumbling block as many would think.

He's coming 28 years of age, has not been capped at senior level, and hasnt kicked a ball in YEARS.

Theres not a snowballs chance in * hes getting that type of money anywhere else in Europe. None.

The EPL door is more or less closed for him right now. Palace nor even Leicester, a championship side, want him. I dont even think a relegation fodder side would punt for him.

Arguably, we could give him our wage cap, with a hefty signing on fee to cover him up to around 40-50k a week.

The problem is he could get that signing on fee and a 50k a week salary at a club somewhere else.

With his international career basically a non starter, he'll be looking to make bank in these next 4-5 years. Celtic isnt the place to do that.

My bet is on the MLS, Saudi, China etc etc.

We should knock this Eduoard return on the head. Im all for spending more money, I whine about constantly.
But we've already gambled with KT. Praying he wont be laid off for months at a time, or even permanently.
We dont need another one, crossing our fingers he's the same Odsonne Edouard who left all those years ago. All the evidence points to the opposite.

He was playing for Palace regularly as recent as the season before last so saying he hasn’t kicked a ball in years is inaccurate.

Would be great to get peak Edouard back, but we all know he'll end up wherever pays biggest wages like Saudi, US or similar - certainly not us.

I did not mean that the love makes him a better player. Edouard would probably not show up if he played in Saudi Arabia. Dembele troll the huns to this day after every game we beat them. He clearly likes us.

Does that make someone a better player? Obviously not, but that was not my point. I think Dembeles career quite clearly show that he have been the better of both. Syre Edouard had maybe 1 more better season but so did Griffiths. Does that make griffiths better than both? Ofc not.

Dembele when he was on fire for Lyon was linked with top moves to Arsenal etc. Eddie would be lucky if he got on the pitch for Millwall.

Both are good players and i loved Eddie for the majority of the time he was here.

For all that chat he was lazy or checked out, wasn’t he still the league’s top goalscorer in his last full season? And that was with him being out with COVID and with us being an absolute mess in general that season. Yeah he might have been hankering for a move, which I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with, and maybe things were starting to get a bit stale (and that’s not even factoring in the general vibe/malaise of that period of time) but it wasn’t like he completely downed tools and stopped giving a * - he was still making a genuine contribution. I don’t think the little clique he had going with Ntcham and some of the others was a positive influence on him towards the end, and he can maybe get a little bit lackadaisical, but I never really bought in to the idea that he was particularly sulky.

It hasn’t worked out for him down south (performance wise anyway, I’m sure his bank account isn’t looking too shabby), and you can debate the reasons for that, but that doesn’t me he’s a donkey. On his day, you could clearly see he had the potential to play at a fairly high level; Remember, this was a guy we were supposedly wanting £30m+ for at one point. I vaguely remember one the Italian papers saying that Roma were considering making a move for him if they couldn’t sign Tammy Abraham on a permanent, and I think that ultimately would’ve suited him much better than Crystal Palace, or any other English side to be honest. He’s not the first, and certainly won’t be the last, talented guy who’s gone down south and struggled to make it work.

All that said, I’m 99% sure he won’t be coming back here anyway; He’s probably going to end up in Turkey or the MLS.

Nope. I would rather have a * player who gives his all and isn't toxic to the atmosphere in the team.

See even if there is something in this it would be end of the window stuff, when Palace have failed to shift him for money and some sort of free transfer low fee that is paid straight to him like what happened with Hart would be agreed.

At that point he would be due just over £3m if it is £70k a week he is on for the last 10 months of his deal. Obviously he would get a wage at his new club so that would be taken into account but it would likely be a fee of £2-2.5m would go to Palace and they will give it to him if they can’t get a buyer.

The only way he accepts less is if he has a club lined up that is offering him top money from Saudi or the Middle East or the likes. Then he would probably take the early pay off and get his new signing on bonus.

I can’t see anything in this one.

Celtic are exploring a move to bring Odsonne Edouard back to Parkhead, with the club in contact with the Crystal Palace striker’s agents, TEAMtalk can reveal.

Edouard, who left Celtic for Palace in 2021 in a £15million deal, could be available for a similar fee as the Eagles look to offload the 25-year-old French forward.

With just one year left on his contract, Palace are keen to cash in rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the summer of 2026.

However, Celtic are reluctant to pay close to £15million up front and are considering a loan deal with a contract offer in January, a more financially prudent approach, which would not suit Palace.

Edouard, who scored 86 goals in 179 appearances during his prolific spell at Celtic, is open to a return to the Scottish champions, where he enjoyed significant success, including three Scottish Premiership titles.

His familiarity with the club and fanbase makes the move appealing, but Celtic face competition from other Premier League clubs and European suitors, who are also monitoring the situation.

Edouard’s desire to leave Palace, where he has struggled for consistent starts could accelerate negotiations.

He has also been told he is not in the first-team plans this season and won’t get in the side ahead of Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has been superb for Palace.

For Celtic, re-signing Edouard would bolster their attacking options as they aim to maintain domestic dominance and compete in the Champions League.

His physicality, finishing, and experience in high-stakes matches make him an ideal fit for Brendan Rodgers’ system. However, Palace’s insistence on a permanent sale could complicate matters, especially if Celtic prioritise a loan to manage their budget.

As the transfer window progresses, Celtic’s ability to structure a deal that satisfies both parties will be key. Edouard’s potential homecoming could reignite his career, but with rival interest growing, Celtic must act swiftly to secure their former star.

Aye he wouldn't be anywhere near £15 million, last year of his contract and came off a pretty bad season.

They'll be lucky to get half of that, I think a bid of around £5 million would do it.

Wages would be the issue, he won't get those wages elsewhere unless he goes to Saudi, so he'll need to take a big cut.

Has there been any credible links yet? Seems to be a lot conjecture.

Later in the window you might find they don’t even need someone to pay all his wages. It sounds like they have absolutely no intention of using him and little hope of getting anything back. The longer the window goes if it looks like he is staying a loan at a % of wages probably with a small loan fee becomes a possibility but that’s where I think the pay off element comes in as it is better for sustainability rules.
