Saying this with the best intentions, but why are some people so willing to accept a drop in standards? We have tens of millions in the bank and some are content with keeping Yang around as a squad player who we can call on to come on and make a difference on the pitch.

Same with the idea that Scales is good enough to be a starter for us. Or Kenny potentially has a future with us. It's * bonkers.

Yang probably can't believe his luck having played 65 games for us. Scales the same at nearly 100. As a club, we should be miles better than these players.

We tend to use clubs like Porto, Benfica, even Brugge now, as the type of clubs we should be in the same bracket as. Does anyone think Yang gets anywhere near their squads, never mind starting team? Not a chance.

It's not even a question of performance or attitude.
Good attitude and work ethic is easy, the odd decent performance might even follow on a good day.

but Yang lacks the basic tools to be a professional footballer at Celtic - it's that simple.

He's absolutely not alone and because the minimum to average level has dropped so much (Oh, Kwon, Welsh, Scales, Kobayashi, Holm, Taylor, M Johnston, etc ) even Yang suddenly doesn't seem to be 'so bad' versus the current low bar
I wish Palma had Yang s attitude for example

However, he is ultimately a very low quality footballer (at this moment in time) that should not be anywhere near our first team squad, never mind team.

    He does not/is not...
have a good first touch and control, intelligent use of the ball, defensively intelligent and effective, have composure in final third, a good finisher, consistently finds a team mate.....etc etc

Loan him out and if he's not pulling up trees at Aberdeen or similar - punt.

It's just stupid saying he's just plain '*'. Brendan Rodgers wouldn't have him near the team if he was *. He was definitely better towards the end of the season, was chipping in with some goals as well. I'd be fine with him starting in the CL playoffs personally.

    Define *.

I think he’s shown more than enough talent to be undeserving of that label, even if he doesn’t make it with us, and he might not.

He's regularly played, and indeed signed, a number of * players before.

And regardless, Yang was playing more often out of necessity really. Kyogo left so Maeda moved up top. Left us with Kuhn (underperformed the back half of the season), Forrest (not able to consistently play and got injured), Jota (ACL).

65 games played, about 60 of them where he hasn't played well. That's *, even for a so called project player.

    Think we've seen enough..

Maybe a loan to see if he can develop.. is work rate and flashes of skill are commendable but he isn't near what we need, that's a fact.

    Loan could be an option.

He may well not be good enough, but is the best time to get rid of him really when he starts showing more flashes of his potential, as he did in the second half of the season?

I say loan him or give him the first half of the season.

Aye this is what bothers me most tbh.

It's this willingness to persist with players who we should so easily be improving upon. Part of the reason we won't go anywhere fast.

Folk will then moan when we don't beat teams like you mention despite having these players in our team.

    Probably Engels fault though!

Got to say, I've came back in here and seen that Jackie Daytona has said it more consicely than I have. Very well put.

Big thanks to MacEwan for his usual valuable input. * cabbage.

We need project players aye. Dont think anyone can argue that.

But there's a lot of room between good project options and then 'superstars' to find a player that can contribute more and has a higher ceiling than Yang.

Even as a project, we could find better in Europe. If we can't I'd be quite concerned.

If you are happy with Schemeichel, then good luck to you :BR1:

I think Schemeichel is done, and Sinisalo should now be No.1. I've made no secret of it on this forum.
Schemichel will be 39 in November, he is in obvious decline. He sold the Scottish Cup Final.
He shed nine goals in three Derby games last year.
He looks unfit and carrying extra baggage.

@Hammy89 I can always count on you :giggle1:

It's called facing up to reality. If you don't like what you see or read, you know what to do.
But to pretend a problem does not exist, only makes it worse.

There's a player in Yang and Schmeichel should be demoted?

    Constant bollocks from you.

I'd be absolutely gutted if Yang was starting in CL qualifiers. He's been here long enough and had too many chances already.

Will never forgive him for trying to take on 2 Munich players in his own half and losing the ball when we were minutes from taking them to extra time in the playoffs.

He's brainless and can not be relied upon.

The management obviously see a player in Yang, because they keep having confidence in him and playing him, and that's a sentiment I share. So I suppose you better start calling them out too for bollocks. Of course I know he is no great shake at the moment, but he is improving, applying himself and working extremely hard on his game, if Kuhn had half his attitude, he would be some player.Would I like better and more the finished article ? Of course I would. Lets see what they come up with.
I actually didn't want us to sign Schemeichel in the first place, I thought he was a goalkeeper in his twilight years, not what we needed, a panic buy just like Trusty, and such a come down from our rumoured interest in Kelleher.

I'l let you know another little secret of mine, seeing you like my secrets.
I was actually * myself that Brendan would pick Schemeichel for the Scottish Cup Final for sentimental reasons.
And guess what @Hammy89 ? He did, and look what it cost us.

He needs moved on, he did show some flashes last year, but he's far too inconsistent for us.
