I agree with most of this, but I would count Taylor as a major loss too. People who don't think we'll miss him are far more optimistic than I am about how many games we can get out of KT without risking injury, especially in that winter period when we get two games a week for about 3 months.

I'll also be amazed (and delighted!) if all 3 of CCV, Daizen and Reo are still here when the window shuts.

But I totally agree with your main point: it's far too early to start panicking. Plenty of time for a good window.

At least some of them will crawl back under their rocks when the football starts again and we're winning games, they don't seem to have much interest in talking about that sort of thing, funny that.

We spent £26M on three players last year.

Two, the jury is still out on, Engels and Trusty, three if you count Idah, who I dont, but many on here are uncertain of, even though he scored twenty goals with limited game time.

The point being, spending big does not always guarantee quality players, no matter how well scouted and watched, it's a risk game, and we all play it. We need to spend our money more smartly, with much better scouting, and ideally the management running the rule over these players, close right up, depending on logistics of course.

I agree there has been an over reaction at this point of the window but I can understand it to an extent given historic context.

When the Kuhn sale goes through we are looking at having spent about £3m and brought in £23-25m. It is early and as mentioned let’s see who we are linked with once that goes through.

I would suspect come the end of the summer window we will have brought in another £15m- 20m or thereabouts.

The net spend part doesn’t bother me.

The whole Kvitsgaarden situation sums up why we will never be a truly serious club with the incumbent senior leadership team

Time will tell on that i guess. They were trying to get us to break our transfer record and wound up selling him for 6 or 7m to norwich.

Nobody told us he had a £6.9M release clause in his contract.
    It was a stitch up.

If we had known that, we would have bought him.

We were being quoted £12m in january so we took a step back, is he really worth that to us? If that release clause is legit we (or a more glamorous team than Norwich) would have pulled the trigger on him had it been known, and if he actually wanted to move here I'm sure he or his agent would have made us aware of it.

They were looking for almost double what he went for 7months ago. We would have paying a record fee. To justify that this guy will need to be a serious player. Maybe he will be but we could also easily have wound up with an idah scenario and got a decent enough player at well over the odds.

We spent the money to get idah and the board are criticised for wasting money (we did overspend). But if we had refused to meet the fee there would have been a pile on as well about us being cheap. Idah would have been reinvented as a proven match winner, big game player that we were too scabby to pay a few extra mil for.

I mean you're not in the position to criticise KDS given your recent ITK spell (with no success). :giggle1:

I don’t know how release clauses work but if we offered an amount just above this secret release clause would the club not have had to accept since the release clause is met?

Therefore you wouldn’t overpay if Celtic did their usual lower increment bid amounts. Or they don’t need to tell you if you bid above a release clause, could be wrong.
