Rodgers has always had his blue eyed boys , conversely he often signs players then bombs them out weeks later. Think it's possibly a personality/attitude thing with him , he seems to really like some and others he doesn't really give a chance or even a consideration, makes his mind up very early doors and there's no way back.

Tbh as much as I like him I just don't think he can spot a defender.

It's been a year and he's played over twenty games. It's not like he's 21, he's 26, we can reliably assume that what we've seen so far is the player we've got.

I think he's fine btw, just a bit overpriced for a guy that's behind Scales in the pecking order. I think we should look to get our money back on him and reinvest in a player that can comfortably claim a starting spot next to CCV.

The Sheffield United fans were shocked when we bought him and laughing their heads off at the fee. Hopefully some team in the MLS will sign him albeit with us taking a financial hit.

    Spoke about this before.

For me this is 1 of the biggest problems with Rodgers. He's paid a lot of money in part bcoz he has a reputation as a manger who develops players.

With our budget we are never going to be able to sign players who are the full package so we need to sign guys who have certain qualities that we like and then look to develop their weaknesses to then sell for profit.

Trusty is perfect example of that however rather than develop his weaknesses Rodgers just bombs him out for a guy like Scales.

Can argue Idah, Engels, Bernardo, Yang, Nawrocki and Bernabei would all fall into that category too.

He's not bombed out Engels yet but he's certainly not developed him either

Anyone overthink this and wonder with Trusty if there is a longer running issue with imposter syndrome?

Given how poor Sheff Utd were and then off back that gets a move to us and is thrust into a CL campaign that had some ups and downs like the 7-1 loss but equally, strong showings against other teams?

That SU team were one of the worst teams in EPL history with one of the worst defences ever seen in that league. Not sure what we were expecting

I wouldn't be getting rid of him, not before Scales.

You dont have those type of performances against Atalanta, Leipzig, Aston Villa and Bayern X2 if you're a bad player, there's clearly a confidence thing with him.

Unless we get a profit on him and/or he wants to leave, id be keeping him and giving him another shot.

He needs a CB to properly challenge him however.

You need super confidence to play for Celtic and I think he lacks that mentality.
But what do I know? I'd resign Rogic

I rarely question Rodgers but I do think his treatment of both Trusty and Nawrocki has been a bit strange, especially when it’s an attempt to shoehorn Scales into the starting 11. If it was Starfelt, you could understand but it’s not.

Trusty needs to be playing consistently and have the confidence that the manager is backing him. I think the way Rodgers has went about it at times has been extremely favourable towards Scales.

Main point is Scales needs to not be our centre back

I’m happy to keep him around but don’t think he should be our first choice centre back. Absolutely no way.

Trusty has a lot of qualities but also a few flaws that need ironed worked on.

For me that's the managers job and why we pay him big money. Simply binning him for Scales isn't a solution.

Scales is as good as he's ever gonna be. There's far more potential in Trusty

Agreed. I’m happy to keep Scales, as I’ve said before. I probably differ to most in here when I say that having players like Scales, Ralston, McCowan and Forrest is absolutely imperative for a healthy squad status. They know where they are in the squad, they’ll keep working hard in training and trying to get better but the likelihood is that they will remain back ups to give our first team a rest. If we are sticking with Trusty, I think it will be one CB in only and it will likely be a right sided CB, to be understudy/rotate with CCV.

I’ve seen enough already this pre-season to think he’s as good as he was last season, very poor. He got pushed around last night by a boy who plays for the worst team in the Irish league!!!
Just not good enough, sell to the highest blind bidder. Keep scales as a cheap back up who we know can play in the SPFL.

    Totally agree.

He isn’t the one to sell; Scales is.

Of the two, the one more likely to give an incoming new CB more competition is Trusty. Scales might have a lower floor (highly arguable anyway) - but Trusty has a much higher ceiling.
