The standard of player links and positions is concerning and does lead me to think Rodgers is not spearheading the recruitment targets and the board are getting involved again going after these projects and hedging their bets.

We will be in for a rude awakening if we get papped out the CL qualifier being totally unprepared. The forks will be out and it’s the month of July that is absolutely crucial in getting us prepared for that qualifier in August.

I don't think the links are as bad as people are suggesting. We've been linked with numerous wingers who id be happy with tbh.

The CB from Le Havre again, I'd be happy with and would only be 4m due to his contract. De Haas perhaps not so much but he'd be coming here off the back of 2 good seasons in Portugal a league far better than ours.

I'd also remind folk before going into complete meltdown that wr probably sign about 5% of every player linked during windows.

I've no doubt most of the players to come in won't have been linked for weeks on end beforehand e.g. Nygren.

I have my concerns, don't get me wrong. I always do with this board. But willing to see how it pans out. If we don't spend now again then we never will. I'm not sure I buy into the theory that they aren't gonna spend because they don't trust Rodgers or because hes leaving tbh.

I guess @Blochairnbhoy hasn't convinced you this is the case. He may need to say it for the 347th time just to make sure you're aware of where he stands on the issue. :fear:

Yeah we completely missed out on Takai who spurs have just signed. There’s absolutely no chance he makes their defence but would have immediately improved ours. For the fee they paid too don’t get how we aren’t even asking the question

The Asian market has ridiculously good players

Clubs have signed them for a small price then sell high

Maybe we did and got told he was lined up to join Spurs. That's the rumour I just made up anyway.

Absolutely needed a better left back, need a better centre back, something different in midfield and an upgrade on Idah. Everyone that watches us knows this and have done for an age. If the board/manger deliver that it’s a successful window, if not, we riot.

Hopefully it's Meada, Idah, Yamada with the boy Osmand seen more for the future .
If Maeda goes back out wide and it's Idah, Yamada and Osmand as the 3 up top then questions need asked.

I take it we are still "working behind the scenes." Oh well, I'm sure we've nothing to worry about

This window has all the hallmarks of another * window.

Getting KT back is massive but that was done 6 months ago.

Nygren seems good business but that’s the only business we’ve done in this window and it’s nowhere near enough.

I don’t buy into the it’s only start of July because how many times have the calls for patience went on and on, and we get to the end of the window shocked that we didn’t do more.

You can’t blame people for being pessimistic when it’s literally happened time and time again.

    Squad as it stands

Goalkeepers - sorted for this season
    Schmeichel
    Sinasalo
    Doohan

Right Back - fine compared to elsewhere
    Johnston
    Ralston
    Donavon (should be loaned out)

Left Back - let’s see how Inamura does possibly need another back up
    Tierney
    Inamura
    Montgomery (should be moved on)

Centre Back - ideally sell Trusty and Welsh and get two new ones in
    CCV
    Trusty
    Scales
    Murray
    Welsh (hopefully still moves on)

Centre Midfield - I think it will come down to what Hatate does but if he goes we need another in there.
    McGregor
    Engels
    Hatate
    Bernardo
    Kwon (to be sold)

Attacking Midfielder - depends if Nygren plays wide and Hatate’s future

    Nygren
    Hatate
    Hatate

Right wing - Yang and Tilio to move on sign a starter at least
    Forrest
    Nygren
    Yang
    Tilio

Left Wing - need a new one, sell Yang and Palma
    Jota (but crocked)
    Maeda
    Yang
    Palma

Striker - Kenny is likely to go out on loan at least possibly Osmand too. We are very light on options and probably need one ready to play first team football
    Maeda
    Idah
    Osmand
    Kenny

So on that basis I would say we need

    1. A starting Centre back
    2. A back up centre back
    3. A Right winger
    4. A Left winger
    5. A Striker

And if Inamura isn’t up to back up left back and Hatate leaves it would be -

    6. A Back up left back
    7. A centre midfielder (we could do with rebalancing our centre midfield anyway with a more energetic player).

Do that’s at least 5 but possibly 7 players. That also includes keeping Maeda, CCV and any other first team players apart from Hatate.

    All while moving on
    1. Trusty
    2. Welsh (if fit enough)
    3. Kwon
    4. Yang
    5. Tilio
    6. Palma
    7. Montgomery

And possibly having to negotiate a Hatate sale.

We arent going to spend because we generally dont spend until we really really need to (either lose the league or come too close)

I dont think that changes whether Rodgers is planning to stay or go. But Im pretty sure the promise of 250k defenders and 1.5m strikers is not going to convince him to stick around. He must be as fed up with it as we are. Id be amazed if we dont spend properly again and he decides to stay beyond next season.

Happened in January. Everyone knew Kyogo was looking to go. He leaves and we are all told to be patient. Celtic has months to plan yet noone comes in. Weve since had 6 months to plan and we have a youth player from Fulham reserves and a 1.5m striker from Japan who has scored 2 goals in 20.

It feels optimistic in the extreme to assume that we sign 2 strikers only to have the big 'proper' signing coming next month.

Too early to judging the transfer window.

The guys we have brought in to date were guys we were signing regardless.

The rest of the business was likely dependent on who we were selling. Fortunately we have got the Kuhn sale done quickly for a good chunk of money. I expect most if not all of that money will be re-invested in the team.

I'd say rhe squad needs more than a £17m injection so hopefully they're willing to take some of that money out the bank or Desmonds offshore accounts to pump the coffers.

It shouldn't all need to come from players we've sold.

But I agree, it is still too early to judge.

Our squad is heavy on numbers and thin on quality.

Signing the likes of Osmand would be fine if we were signing a Kyogo replacement but instead we are linked with Yamada (fully appreciate Kyogo was an unknown quantity but their records in Japan aren’t remotely comparable).

Loads of CBs but only 1 of them is actually good enough to start for us week in week out and he’s injury prone. One injury away from a disaster - the Celtic way!

Midfield powederpuff and our biggest downfall in European games and versus the Huns last season.

As we have said you have a plethora of guys who we all probably have an opinion on them being told to * off

    Palma
    Kwon
    Tilio
    Welsh

Are 4 for starters its a poor overall squad as it stands let's be honest
