    You not taking offence at something doesn't mean that it isn't disrespectful.

    Cultural appropriation isn't just about who gets offended by what, it arises when symbols or practices are taken out of context, used superficially, often stripped of their meaning and commercialised for financial gain. This is usually done by groups of people who historically had power over the cultures being 'borrowed' from.

    It's less about the feelings of an individual and more about erasure. The fashion examples that Sween failed to understand exploited and stole designs directly from people for profit, while a lot of people making the original designs live in poverty.

    @Callum McGregor

    I'm doing some reading on this just now mate and I think we might be debating this on a different level. I read some academic papers about the exploitation of certain cultures. I'm coming at this from jokes on TV, old movies etc.

    I don't see anyone in here arguing in bad faith to be honest. What I see is us trying to navigate a tricky subject which I created somewhat out of the blue based on what happened when I woke up this morning. If everyone's happy to leave it there then i'm happy also. I've realised that this is indeed something which is taboo and makes folks uncomfortable. If you guys do decide to leave it there I would like to share what I made today.

    I understand that its incredibly cheeky of me to drive people to my music channel. So if anyone is against me posting my new tune then please let a moderator know and they can delete it. I haven't seen any rules against it but i'm wary of being a cheeky poser charlatan. Its not as if I am looking to make money but since I got you all interested you might enjoy it.
