Been a fantastic first day at Wimbledon today for those interested in it.

Carlos Alcaraz given a right scare by Fabio Fognini in 5 sets. Total thriller of a match for round 1 and fair play to Fognini for making it so interesting. Thought he played some fantastic stuff and had a * ton of break points that he failed to take. Alcaraz will need to be a lot better than he was today but expect him to pick it up as the tournament goes on.

Medvedev and Tsitsipas already out is probably the other major headline. Medvedev beaten in 5 sets and Tsitsipas had to retire. Think Zverev has still to actually start and it's nearly half 8 lol.

Got a feeling this is Sinner's year too tbh. Don't think Alcaraz will make it 3 in a row. He likes a close shave and can see him tripping up. Both he and Sinner have the beating of Djokovic these days too so don't think Novak will do it.

Not been keeping up with the women's game. Hopefully Raducanu goes out soon though so it doesn't become some weird soap opera love in with the BBC

Anyone else really dislike Alcaraz for no apparent reason?

Wouldn't put it past him for 3IAR.

    Delighted Tsitsipas is out.

Ons Jabeur going out is a big upset on the women’s side.

After RG I predicted Sinner as the winner but I’m not as sure now.

Aye I see what you mean.

Seems a nice guy, well liked, and plays some really good honest tennis. Rarely if ever throws the dummy out the pram either. Yet still there's something about him....maybe he's just too boring in that sense.

Would like to see someone else win its his year outside of Alcaraz, Djokovic etc

I'm a big Alcaraz fan. Plays some of the best tennis I've ever seen.

Zverev follows Medvedev and Tsitsipas in being knocked out in round 1.

Djokovic will be licking his lips here because I genuinely fancy someone to shock Alcaraz too

His only chance is if both Sinner and Alcaraz get knocked out.

Every chance. Nobody looking overly comfortable on the grass this year.

See Djokovic played the old "medical time out" card tonight when he was struggling and it shifted momentum

Nah, Djokovic has already won his last slam.

Dunno about that man. Age catching up to him but just can never rule him out.

Think Sinner in particular has his number though

I think age has caught up with him a fair bit over the past year having watched him. He's still one of the best in the world but he's lost some of his movement that made his defensive game so effective. I've been saying he's won his last slam since the end of 2023 though. You're right you shouldn't rule him out completely, but I'd genuinely be stunned if he won another slam.

Also think his forehand has declined a bit.

Alcaraz is the good guy, Sinner is the *. Clearly.

    I won’t even get into Djokovic…

Raducanu shouting "COME OONNNNNN" after every point is * infuriating man. Hope the wee English cow gets knocked out tonight.

Top class from Marin Cilic. The Brit was losing the plot.
