Going by Youtube highlights (in a decent League) suggests we have a real future if not instant talent & for a steal.

Defintely has strength & the bottle, a couple (so no fluke) of 360 turns leaving 2 close defenders on both occassions a yard away is unusual to see in any player.

Think he is going be a Celtic star; Benny Hits The Net.

Benjamin Nygren didn’t need much of an introduction to Celtic Park.

The 23-year-old Swede is well aware of the club’s stature, the compatriots who came before him and the expectations now on his shoulders. Fresh from a strong season in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland, Nygren arrives at Celtic on a five-year contract with clear intent: to make an impact quickly.

“I can't wait to celebrate a lot of victories in here,” he says, sitting in the home dressing room for his first interview with club media. “I’ve been looking forward to this so much.”

“I'm a very, very competitive person, and this was something I loved about Celtic. Of course, it's a huge club. I love the winning mentality, because I want to be with similar-minded people who also love to win.”

A familiar path from Sweden to Celtic Park
Nygren joins a list of Swedish players to wear the green and white that includes some of the club’s most recognisable names. “Henke Larsson, King of Kings – a big, big legend here,” he says. “I play with his son now, Jordan.”

He’s also followed the careers of Carl Starfelt and Mikael Lustig, among others, players who adapted well to Scottish football and its demands. The transition, Nygren believes, comes down to shared values.

“I think with Swedish and Scottish people there are a lot of similarities,” he says. “How you think, how you behave, how hard you work. I think that's why a lot of Swedish people have been doing very well here.”

Linking play, chasing goals, working both ways
Backing up the early scouting reports and impressions from Danish experts, Nygren sees himself as a connecting force for Celtic, someone who links defence and attack, keeps play moving and disrupts opposition lines.

Comfortable playing wide or centrally, he offers Celtic flexibility in the final third, but his approach is consistent. He wants to get on the ball and make things happen.

“I’m a player who wants to create a lot of chances and go towards goal,” he says. “I have a high work rate, both offensively and defensively.”

His numbers back that up. From midfield, he scored 16 goals in all competitions last season. He enjoys arriving late into the box and drifting into dangerous positions off the ball.

“I come as the second wave,” he explains. “If we’re leading 1–0, I want us to go for 2–0 and 3–0 and 4–0. I’m an offensive-minded player, but I always try to do my best in all parts of the game.”

Away from football: golf and Scottish castles
When he’s not on the pitch, Nygren is likely to be found on the golf course.

“Yeah, I love golf,” he says. “It’s my biggest hobby.”

With a handicap of six or seven, he’s no casual player either. “On my day, I’m good,” he grins. Scotland’s reputation as the home of golf hasn’t gone unnoticed. “I’ve heard there are great courses here, I’m looking forward to seeing those too.”

Off the course, he enjoys downtime with his girlfriend and family, exploring new places and good food. The country’s rich history has already caught his attention. “I’ve heard there are a lot of beautiful castles around Scotland. I’ll definitely go and see those.”

    Ready for his Celtic moment
Despite his age, Nygren arrives at Celtic with a career that’s already spanned four countries. His breakout came early at just 17 earning a move from IFK Goteborg to Genk. But consistent minutes proved harder to come by in Belgium, and the pandemic disrupted his progress further.

A loan to Heerenveen in the Netherlands followed, before a more stable period in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland allowed him to rebuild momentum. There, Nygren found his rhythm, scoring consistently, playing week in, week out, and taking on more responsibility.

“Everyone’s journey is a bit different,” he says. “In Denmark, I had a really good time. I played regularly, I had the captain’s armband in the last half of the season.”

Now, he sees Celtic as the next natural step.

For all the talk of potential, Nygren doesn’t see himself as a project. At 23, with over 200 games behind him and leadership experience at his last club, he arrives at Celtic ready to step into a side that expects to win every week.

Asked if Celtic are getting him in his best years, Nygren’s answer is short, but certain: “Yeah.”
