Can be a wee bit rash sometimes but wouldn’t be the worst back up…

Fine as a back up but fact is our second choice LB is going to have to play a lot of games this year. I'd rather someone of a higher standard.

Yeah, Taylor's a goner afterall. Next thing there'll be a Robertson rumor.

Meanwhile, Celtic have scouted Hearts' James Penrice, but won't necessarily pursue a deal for the left back.

Penrice was a standout during a poor season for the Jambos last term after joining on a free transfer from Livingston

It's a position Celtic require more depth in, with Greg Taylor on the verge of joining PAOK in Greece on a two-year deal when his Parkhead contract expires.

That leaves Kieran Tierney as the only senior option in that area after he made an emotional homecoming from Arsenal on a five-year deal.

Hmm, never been overly impressed with him, to be honest.

The thing about playing second fiddle to our LB on this occasion is different from all the other times. We know the player really isn't going to be a back up because they're likely going to play a similar amount of games as Tierney will in a season. So, it's a problem position.

You're unlikely to get someone in who is playing at a good level and wants to come in and essentially play back up in all the big games, unless there is an injury to KT. We couldn't get anyone better than Tierney, when he's fit. So, he's going to play all the major games when he's available. It will likely have to be someone like Penrice or we take a punt on a youngster from somewhere, again, where they will know they're never going to be first choice but the chance to play at a club our size and the salary increase they'll get will be too good to turn down.

Why imo Anderson and frame should be given the pre season to stake a claim.

    No for me..

He's ok and has a good delivery at times but I'd want far better..

As mentioned, with the amount of games KT will miss, im wanting a real good player to fill the boots..

I think we should probably look at an experienced out-of-favour LB in the mould of Schlupp or a prospect who will appreciate the game time we could offer but not kick up fuss is they aren't considered first choice.

Similar to when we had Elhamed and Frimpong. Both could stake a claim for being first choice but the senior player in Elhamed wasn't reliable fitness wise.

I like him, he's rapid and he's easily Hearts best player whenever I watch him.

It's no great surprise he's been scouted. Christ.

I reckon he's number 3 or 4 down the list.

As much as I generally agree that the best of our youth should be given preseason to stake a claim, we simply cannot take the risk of not having a capable and more experienced left back available for the CL playoff. Given KT’s injury record, we need to have a capable understudy in, settled and ready to go.

Ye why I think we should have taken the chance in January and either played frame or recalled Anderson. But we loaned in schlupp..

Is penrice or a player we bring in to play second fiddle to Tierney gonna be that much better than scales at left back? A person who could move across and fill in if Tierney was injured and Anderson or frame weren't trusted for the playoff?

We give out (the support) regarding the deadwood in the squad and opportunities for young players but want a bucket load of players in every position. I see people suggesting another striker on top of the new lad, idah and maeda. How many strikers do we need? people want 8 centre halfs, three first team goalies, 9 center mids. I'd rather we invested in quality in the squad, gave a young player or two a chance and went from there. Tierney himself only got his chance out of circumstance..

All of us agree the youth should get more chance, and I think the club has failed massively in that. But second choice is likely going to be playing 25 plus games. Neither Frame or Anderson have experience at a good level, and while they may come good it would be a huge risk.

I think maybe a loan of a left back, while trying to get one of them experience here and in the team and the other a good loan. Maybe in a year we have one of them to be back up. I'd rather than Penrice, as let's be honest he will just be a player we will want to move on in a year or two.

Do you think Scales is the best option we can get even as a back up to Tierney at left back?

That would be suicidal. Not even just because I don't think he's good enough there, but given tierney injury record it could lead to him playing a lot of football in that position. Then we are short a CB.

    We need dependable back up.

I get what you're saying about the youth but they need bled in. Same people asking for it would be the same in panic mode when we enter the play off playing Anderson or frame after Tierney gets crocked pre season.

I would take him as a back up. Would be perfect for domestic games where we dominate, with his deliveries.
