Don't let the art style fool you. This one is surely for adults. The messages that this anime provide us are deep. It consists of 12 episodes, but in most of the 12 episodes, there are only two girls who survived are shown and I find it unique. They found a few survivors, but it's apocalypse, so there is no hope for them to see enough number of humans to be reproductive. Then, we are forced to see the two girls loosing things one by one which they need to survive, for example, their only vehicle stops working, then traveling to new places for foods is getting difficult, etc. I like the fact that the author didn't make the story optimistic. The two girls understand what will be waiting for them in the future (bad ending = their deaths), but they decide to keep smiling everyday. You can watch this anime on Amazon Prime Video.

I think the very big advantage of anime is the diverse genre. Plus, if it's a live action one, I can't accept a setting which is too weird, however, if it's anime, I can easily accept or rather enjoy the weird setting. Having said that, it doesn't mean I don't enjoy realistic anime with the genre of "slice of life". For example, I do love this kind of slice of life anime too. The title is Super Cub.

I like very diverse genres of anime, from very educational ones to weird and kinky ones. If I pick an educational one. "Ruri's Jewels". It's an introduction to mineralogy. The video below is a trailer and 13 episodes get available on streaming websites such as Crunchyroll next month. I read the original manga, and I love it. It can make people get interested in mineralogy.

This is the cover of the 1st volume of the original manga.

It’s the Spring 2025 anime season right now, and more than 60 episodes from 60 different anime shows are added to streaming sites every week. One of them is the third season of Fire Force. The third season has already come out, and the fourth season is said to be in the works, and it shows how popular the anime is worldwide. The video below is the opening of the first season. It's available on multiple streaming services such as Crunchyroll, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Global anime fandom like this often impresses me. I like her (Maki Oze) too.

Last weekend, the highly talked-about and controversial anime Takopi's Original Sin started streaming.

It’s based on a manga published a few years ago that became a hot topic in Japan for its shocking content—and also grew very popular.

The story centers around a young elementary school girl and Takopi, a cute-looking octopus-like alien who happens to land on Earth. The manga opens with a jarring scene: the girl is being severely bullied and ends up taking her own life.

Takopi, however, has a special ability—he can travel back in time to the moment a photo was taken. So, he’s able to return to a time before the girl’s suicide. Being kind-hearted and friendly, Takopi tries his best to make the girl happy and prevent her tragic end.

But there’s a big problem: Takopi is an alien, and he doesn’t share human values or a human sense of ethics. That means he’s willing to sacrifice anyone else if it means saving the girl.

Although the main character is just a child, the story deals with heavy themes like bullying, suicide, and even murder—making it a truly controversial piece. Still, the fact that it's being released in the era of streaming really worked in its favor. Back when anime had to be broadcast on TV, this story probably wouldn’t have made it to air.

Even today, most streaming anime still follow the typical 25-minute episode format, since they’re also broadcast on TV. But this show isn’t being aired on TV at all—so the first episode is much longer, about 40 minutes. Because there’s no need to stick to a broadcast schedule, the creators had more freedom. It’s one of the perks of the streaming era.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen an anime that opens with a content warning saying the story may be disturbing. Here's a screenshot of that warning.

April to June= Spring anime season and today is July 1st. So, 2025 spring anime season ended. If I pick two from the 2025 spring anime season, I love Apocalypse Hotel and A Ninja and an Assassin under One Roof. I highly recommend them.

The first episode of CLEVTESS has just been released. While a typical Japanese anime episode runs for about 25 minutes, this premiere is twice as long at a full 50 minutes. Overseas anime fans have been responding quite positively so far.

The series is based on a lesser-known manga (which I hadn’t read myself), so expectations weren’t particularly high going in. Still, some viewers are already calling it a potential “dark horse of the summer 2025 anime season.”

This summer is shaping up to be especially competitive, with more than 80 new anime titles and many high-profile releases. With unexpected hits like this entering the mix, it’s getting harder and harder to decide what to watch!

Episode 1 does have some intense scenes—right off the bat, the protagonist and what seems to be an important companion are graphically dismembered—but in the second half, the tone shifts a bit, hinting that there’s more to this than just a typical dark fantasy.

One quick note: the first five minutes are presented in deliberately low resolution as a flashback from the protagonist’s past, so don’t be alarmed! (A lot of us ended up double-checking our video settings.)

Here is a trailer for Episode 2.

The summer anime season for 2025 started last week, and this summer has over 80 new titles, making it one of the busiest seasons in the Japanese anime market. Among the big titles already attracting attention even before their release, there are also some lesser-known gems that shine just as brightly. One of those, which I’ve mentioned before in this thread, is Ruri no Houseki (English title: Ruri Rocks).

I had already read the manga and watched the anime trailer beforehand, so I thought I had a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of the story, the art, and the overall quality of the anime. But after watching the first episode, I was honestly surprised—it's even better than I imagined. It’s already shaping up to be a really solid series.

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s an educational story focused on the theme of mineralogy. While it’s educational, the engaging characters and well-crafted plot make sure it never feels too heavy-handed, giving us a wonderful entertainment experience. What really sets this anime apart and takes it to the next level is the studio behind it: Studio Bind.

Unlike theatrical films, TV anime are usually produced on a lower budget. But even if you throw a lot of money at it, that doesn’t automatically guarantee high-quality animation. Studio Bind is a relatively new studio, only a few years old, but everything they've worked on so far has had exceptional quality. So, even though they’re still new, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them already regarded as top-tier.

In this anime, the character designs are adorable, but what really stands out is how beautifully the natural world is depicted. Trees, minerals, even insects—all of it is stunning. With over 80 new TV anime set to release this summer, Ruri no Houseki is a title I really hope doesn’t get overlooked and that many people get to enjoy.

The video below is the opening that was just released last night.

    I agree with this guy.
