It is a lot for a club at our level for such a young player as said above.

It's a difficult one, could be the next Vidic and we could seriously regret not risking it.

For Liverpool, PSG etc this isn't a risk its a harmless 10 quid bet. It takes a sizeable part of our summer budget though.

It is but I think for us to hit that next stage, we'll be taking more educated punts at players like this..

It's the only way to beat the big sides to them by getting in early..

There's more liklihood of us getting them right than what we were doing before with the cheaper punts..

The bulk of the fee likely to be covered by the sell-on we get from Frimpong.

If ever there was a statement to be made about the player-trading model stepping up a gear, this would be it.

Yeah I agree, even if you overpay but they still perform it's better than spending £2-3m and them being a bit of a dud. You end up collecting so many of them. There is the idea that you can get better for less, and often you can, but if you look at history most cheap punts have done almost nothing at the club.

Some may think we overspent on Idah or Engels, but I'd rather we overspent on players that can still deliver than overspend on some punt who we spend years trying to punt.

5-7 mill would be worth the punt for a highly rated 17 year old with Champions League experience, who plays for a similar style of club who are used to winning their respective domestic league. He looks to be physical & aggressive which beside CCV (If he stays) would complement one another. I feel like we have lacked aggression in our defence. With addition of Tierney & hopefully this guy we will have steel at the back.

Can we all just * remember though, if we do spend 6-9m on this guy (or similar) at the age of 17-21, with only really one season worth of game time, that they are still developing and will have poor spells at times

Just gotta say that before we do sign him, rave about him for 3 games, than spend the rest of a season slating him.

Don't get me wrong, I agree. I'd just find it very hard to believe this would be sanctioned.

    That's actually a good point

I think we've overspent on Idah more than Engels yet he contributed 20 goals despite not starting week in week out. I don't think if you add up Bangura, Lassad, Scepovic, Rasmussen, Kazim Richards etc etc altogether they'd have 20 goals for us. Maybe exagerrating there but it can't be much more!

Engels I still think will make us a healthy profit. People need some patience with him and it also comes back to what @Peej says above. If we are to sign a 17 year old CB for £9m * help the lad.

Yeah. I could see us paying £9m for a CB out of favor at a decent Italian/German side. Upping the CCV fee a wee bit, hoping we can land a player of comparable quality.

Fee aside, see if we could get this kid along with Nawrocki and CCV and then also bring in an equal to CCV, that's a great 4 option.

Sell Lagerbeilke, Scales and Trusty to part fund it (if not fully fund at least this lad)

Looks like he prefers to play as RCB. We need cover for CCV in that position. Trusty and scales are lefters. I say bring him in for the price and develop him. With the right mentality he could shine, the risk is worth it for projects like this, we just need to find an outcome where all parties are happy.

Rather we gave him a 2nd season kelvin Wilson style than persist with Scales. I've seen enough of the latter.

Agree. No way that Scales are better. I think Trusty is benched for other reasons. He started about every CL game and did well. Strange imo
