Really good player that looks like he doesn’t want to be here

His basics have went to *, it’s as clear as day that it’s a mental thing - whatever that may turn out to be.

So frustrating because at his best he is absolute class IMO. You only have to look at Leverkusen at home or the Bayern games. In fact there’s another example of why it’s an application thing right there…

Swap deal with Ajer at Brentford (who wanted to sign him in January) and CCV leaving looks a possibility for me.

Wow, the hate knives are truly out. Get a grip folks.
Worked hard and did ok yesterday in an already dead game after coming on.

Truly outstanding player, our player of year until Bayern.
Fragile personality that just needs a bit of coaching and support.
Statistically works as hard defensively as Maeda.

Judge the performances not the body language, he was like a surly teenager when playing at his peak too remember.

Decent player but I think sometimes he is victim to his own success this year. When he went through that purple patch, lets be honest we were all blown away and couldnt believe it was the same player that mainly struggled the year previous.

I can see why people think it's an attitude thing because his demeanour lends itself to that but that is too easy an answer. Honestly think he probably is trying and it just isn't working out for him right now. Could be tired, could be the system was better for him when we had kyogo, could be carry a niggling injury - could be a lot of different things, it's easy to pin it on attitude.

Like everyone else, my patience with him won't last forever but i haven't settled on the idea it's a poor attitude or has a move lined up. Just hit a rough patch, we know what he is capable of and we just need to get him back to his best.

If its an attitude thing right enough, Brendan will have him shipped out this year - even if on a reduced fee. If he is still here next season then I'd argue he is indeed just going through a rough patch for whatever reason

Being hooked at half time twice in recent games suggests an attitude thing, to me.

Left on the bench for James Forrest in whats probably our biggest game since Bayern isnt a great look for him.

I think he just burned himself out this season, probably not thinking about the schedule.

Remember he bulked himself up/improved his fitness a lot about a year ago and then he was playing pretty much every game and a lot of them 90 minutes up until January.

I said before but remember he came from Dutch/German/Austrian football where they only have 1 domestic Cup and 34 League games.

He averaged less than 2000 minutes played per season and this season he's already played over 3000 and thats on the back of him probably being more well built than he used to be.

    21/22 27 Games (21 starts)
    22/23 29 games (19 starts)
    23/24 40 games (31 starts)
24/25 he played his 40th game on the 1st of March (started 35)

So the most games he ever started in a season was 31, this season he made his 31st start on the 2nd of February.

So to him he'd essentially played which was normally a full seasons worth of football by January/February and probably worse given he likely trained hard over the summer to get back to good condition considering how he was when he joined us.

This 100%. Can recall he looked like our sharpest and most potent player during our pre-season, which would indicate he was putting in an awful lot of hard work behind the scenes to reach this standard even before then. Anyone who thinks that it is sustainable mentally and physically to continue at this standard for such a long period is wrong. I think the unhappiness we see from him is not at our team, but his own frustration because of how high his standards are.

There was a stage around the New Year where I though, "Jesus this guy is better than Jota, how is that possible?". Now we find ourselves in an extremely fortunate position to have both players on our books. Had he maintained the extremely high standards he set for himself, and us as a fanbase, throughout the beginning of the season to the end, there's no doubt in my mind he would be off this summer. I hope his dip in form, with the arrival of Jota, helps him to stay around for longer and manage his games better.

Said it before and don't want to be negative and i hope i am wrong, but i can put money on that he will be one of those guys who will "demand" a transfter and come out talking a bit of trash. I have a strong feeling that he is a bit of a *.

Thought about it even when he was unplayable. When the rest of the players celebrate together he casually walks at snails pace to them not taking part in the celebrations etc.

Would defo sell in summer if the right figure was met. I hope some deal is agreed in principle otherwise they are hardly gonna be queuing up for off the back of recent performances

A lot of folk seem to forget that his drop in from started before Jota arrived and even before the window opened (then closed).

    I don't believe he's in a strop about a transfer.

I genuinely just think he's out of form.

Be that due to the levels he was hittin, he now seems far less of an impact, or if physically it's taken it's toll - I mean the dental stuff has a massive hit on him, so perhaps he does have physical issues with maintaining that sort of level.

I'd not be looking to sell him at all though. Unless he's asking to leave, is be looking to make him and Jota our main wingers for next season and getting folk in who compliment them in rotation.
