Greg Taylor is brilliant for us, until we need to play a team that's better than us, then the problems begin..

    I'd rather he moved on..

One swallow doesn't make a summer.

People going OTT about a decent performance against a * poor kilmarnock team.

Seem to have forgotten his performance against bayern or him almost single handily costing us the cup final a few months ago.

There is a reason every decent team we come up against targets him.

There is also a reason pundits like Boyd and Dalziel are constantly going on about how we should do everything we can to keep him. These are 2 guys who don't have our best interests at heart. They are desperate for us to keep a bang average player bcoz they believe the weaker we are the better chance their beloved Hun team have of closing the gap.

The biggest surprise on Saturday was that he didn't turn and pass his wean backwards to McGregor

Paul Hartley played in a Celtic team that had a strong Scottish contingent at its core.

The ex-Celtic midfielder won two Scottish Premier League titles, a Scottish Cup and a League Cup under fellow Scot Gordon Strachan. Hartley's teammates included the likes of Stephen McManus, Gary Caldwell, Scott Brown, Mark Wilson, Shaun Maloney and Barry Robson, to name but a few. Every one of them was a vital cog in the green and white machine that was Strachan's highly successful side.

That's why the 48-year-old has watched on with interest as homegrown boy Greg Taylor gets ready to bring the curtain down on his Celtic career. Hartley reckons that the respect and admiration for the job Taylor has done for the club is growing by the day as the clock ticks down and should never go unnoticed.

He readily subscribes to the notion that Celtic will miss Taylor if he chooses to depart the scene at the end of the current campaign. Hartley reckons that Taylor could well be the perfect example of a player who will not be fully appreciated until he finally leaves the club.

Taylor is poised to leave Celtic in the summer when his current deal expires after contract talks hit an impasse and no new deal has been signed. However, Hartley is well aware that it is harder for homegrown talents to issue contractual demands based on their worth

He said: "Greg Taylor is a good player and maybe it’s just because he's Scottish and he's not, maybe, box office or a big name! It is important for Celtic to retain that Scottish core, and with Kieran Tierney coming back, then Greg might see his future somewhere else, but I think he can play in a number of positions, and I think he’s been a strong signing.

“It’s not easy coming from Kilmarnock to establish yourself in the Celtic team, and he has certainly done that. That’s for sure. Tierney might not play every game. He's going to be a brilliant signing. He’s still at a good age, but he’s had a lot of injuries over his career, and you need two good players in every position.

"It is hard for Scottish players to make contractual demands, and Greg never came in for a big fee either when he came from Kilmarnock to Celtic. Sometimes you've got to try and appreciate the players a little bit more, especially if he's looking for a contract and what he thinks he's worth.

"Greg has been a good player for Celtic over a period of time."

With the imminent return of Tierney, Hartley believes that Taylor may wish to pursue other options to try and guarantee first-team football elsewhere.

He reckons that he wouldn't put it past Taylor to take a leaf out of former Celtic teammate Ryan Christie's book and see if he can have a crack at England.

Hartley said: "Greg will just want a contract that provides good security for him and his family.

"He might also look at things and say, 'I'm not guaranteed first-team football here', and at the stage of his career that he is at, he wants to try and play every week. He's maybe not guaranteed that at Celtic with Tierney coming back. Playing in England might also come into his thinking, and Greg might want to try and play in the best league possible, as a footballer's career is quite short.

"He's at an age now where he may see his future lying elsewhere."

However, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has still not given up hope of convincing Taylor to stay despite the player currently being free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with any potential suitors. The left-back was voted the sponsor's Player of the Match in the 5-1 destruction of Kilmarnock that moved Celtic to within one victory of retaining their Scottish Premiership crown.

Taylor, who has walked out of the tunnel with his newborn baby daughter Ruvie as the club mascot at the weekend, was unavailable at the end to pick up his award. Rodgers said: "I'll always fight to the very end for a player and a person like Greg.

"He's earned the right to make the decision he wants. We'll always try to convince (him to stay). We'll see what happens come the end of the season."

Completely agree. Time to move him on unless he is happy playing 2nd/3rd choice.

We already know he'd be a second choice. Any left back coming in would be coming in being second choice because Tierney is joining. I think this is where our major issue is. What level will the player be?

He'd be a great second choice and would be cheaper than Sclupp. If he is happy to play second fiddle I'd happily give him a contract. More than good enough to step into any domestic game and do a good job.

Thats the issue tho isn't it? Hes not happy to play 2nd fiddle and feels he deserves to be 1st choice despite his lack of ability

Same way you constantly ignore his numerous positive contributions I suppose.

I'm actually fine with moving him on and am looking forward to Tierney being an upgrade. If he wants a new challenge then good luck to him.

Why wouldn't a footballer want to be first choice? He knows he's getting dropped, I'm sure he's well aware KT is the better footballer and deserves to start above him. He's seen off a lot of competition to LB since coming here so he will feel another club will give him that shot.

Celtic have upped the ante and offered Greg Taylor a new improved, three-year deal to try to keep him with Brendan Rodgers’ champions.

It had looked like the 27-year-old was set to leave on freedom of contract at the end of the season, with Dinamo Zagreb leading the chase.

The Celtic hierarchy has been in talks with the Scotland international for several months and have now tabled an improved deal.

It would see Taylor get a significant wage rise on his current deal and would keep him at Celtic Park until the summer of 2028.

The issue for Taylor remains he will still have to play back-up to returning Kieran Tierney

The Scotland international will make his prodigal return from Arsenal in the summer, when his current deal at the Emirates expires

Tierney hasn’t had the greatest of luck with injury in recent seasons and there is still the possibility Taylor would get a fair chunk of game time

The former Kilmarnock star has an offer on the table from Dinamo Zagreb, but that could now be impacted by the fact coach Fabio Cannavaro has since been sacked.

The Croatian side tried to get him out in January and then offered a big deal to land him in the summer.

Taylor also has interest from Major League Soccer, Italy and England

Rodgers had always said he is keen to keep the player but last month acknowledged that he was likely to leave.

Taylor then came back in at the weekend and put on a man of the match display against Kilmarnock.

The Celtic manager was more bullish about the situation after the Killie game and admitted he would fight to the very end to keep a player such as the left-back

That is very much the case and Celtic are now looking to convince him to remain in Glasgow.

Taylor has also just become a dad and his young daughter Ruvie was a mascot for the Kilmarnock game. Family reasons could be another big factor in his next move and possibly remaining in Scotland.

Ohoho. I know he has his flaws, but I think a final attempt to keep him is sound.
