The article I read decades ago said Jock found out from one of the boys club players and demanded the sackings.
The board were forced to do it or it would have went public.
I know Jock should have called the police but I think he wanted the board to do it because if he done it he would have been blamed by the board for trying to bring down the club.
He loved the club too much to bring that to happen. The board manipulated him otherwise why reemploy that scumbag.
I know that this is all supposition but u believe that that’s what happened.
If someone lower than Jock knew they would have been out but Jock forced their hands.

    That's cool.
Alan Brazil was one of the victims as far as i was aware so i guess Jock didn't know.
I wonder why Jock's family haven't done anything about the defamation of the Great Man by the huns supporters.

Just googled and read a report that Stein took the honorary president job of the boys club when torbett was there, 4 years after Stein sacked him. No sure Stein would do that if he knew what was going on.
The problem is that there's been loads of newspaper articles and reports giving opinions on loads of what went on, now being accepted as fact, but I don't think we know who knew what tbh.

You didn't even bother to read what I wrote before posting your response. I think we should have infrormed the victims we intended to plead guilty to all potential charges. No lengthy legal battle whatsoever.

I don't think he has any family left.

I read somewhere that officials from Celtic had actually gone to visit his family and asked how they wished to deal with the smear campaign, but I can't remember what they said. Probably just chose to respond with dignified silence

I did. There were no charges against the club, so nothing to plead guilty to.

That's why there should have been a transparent and independent enquiry, mate, and a more extensive statement from Celtic explaining the club’s side of the story.

Not sure about that because some of his family and so called friends hated the fact he played for Celtic never mind becoming our greatest manager.

No point continuing the discussion any further. It's a difficult topic for all of us. Hope the settlements bring some sort of closure to the vicitms for their long-standing ordeal.

You don’t have a clue do you?

There was no potential for criminal charges against Celtic.

Alan Morrison provided a very clear explanation of why this played out the way it did on this weeks Huddle Breakdown.

Celtic as a listed publicly traded company have corporate liability insurance which covers costs and liabilities associated with legal claims against the business. When the class action lawsuit was launched the clubs interests would have been essentially managed and directed by the insurers who would have appointed their lawyers of choice to represent Celtic.

Insurers will go out their way to delay and minimise the amount that is paid out. Hence the length of time it would have taken to reach a settlement.

If Celtic stepped in and intervened in those proceedings this would invalidate their corporate liability insurance and provided consequences for the Board and those running the club on behalf of shareholders as to why they would do such a thing.

Does this seem right? Of course not but it is the murky world of insurance particularly corporate insurance.

Is it cruel on those seeking a claim who have been through the horrible ordeal? Of course it is but those calling for it to go all the way to trial and further digging up painful memories, would that have really been better than settling?

It is a horrible ordeal, it’s sickening that this took place on such a mass scale across society during the time and that those trusted to look after young vulnerable kids, abused their position and there is no punishment severe enough for such horrible crimes. However, some of the calls for this to have played out differently in terms of compensation for the victims are fairly unrealistic.

Agreed, mate, but some survivors have claimed that Celtic covered this up for over 50 years. That's then taken as fact and repeated by SMM and people who hate Celtic.

Yes, the survivors (and victims) of these horrific crimes must be the priority; their voices should be heard, and they have shown strength and bravery coming forward, but a 50-year cover-up simply isn't true.

There was an internal investigation in the 1980s—it sounds like it was farcical at best, but the club still acknowledged the rumours. Then Fergus phoned the police in the 1990s, and these beasts began going to prison.

Years later, more survivors came forward, saying they were fed up with the Celtic covering this up. That makes no sense.

The current board hasn't handled things well and doesn't come out of this in a great light, but as you point out, that is the murky reality of running a professional business.

Questions have to be asked of whoever is still around from the Kellys and Whites eras, though, surely?

It is sad that this whole process lasted so long. Insurance or not. It's an ugly mess the Huns will forever use to tar us with, because consecutive boards did little to help any investigation.

To be fair, I think from Fergus onwards we did cooperate with investigations. He made the phone call to the police.

It's the Kellys and Whites who have (knowingly or not) allowed lives to be destroyed, people’s names to be dragged through the mud and our reputation to be tarnished.

I don't think boards since the late 90s have covered themselves in glory, but they've no questions to answer when it comes to these horrendous crimes… the Kellys and Whites do, though.
