Hope he smashes it. Surely still got enough about him to make an impact in that league.

Good for him hopefully he makes an impact sure he will.

Dunfermline is nice for a wander and a change of scenery.Quite like Fife these days.Pittencrieff Park is lovely on a nice day. They’re quite well supported as a club as well, would rather them or a Morton in the league than your Ross County’s or St Johnstone.

It's a shame that injuries ruined him.

Victor Wanyama scored one of the goals that helped Celtic defeat the mighty Barcelona at Parkhead in 2012.

He was in the Tottenham Hotspur Champions League final squad of 2019.

Up until now, he has enjoyed a high-profile career.

The Kenyan spent two seasons at Parkhead and readily admits that former Celtic midfielder and manager Neil Lennon set him on the road to football stardom after he won back-to-back titles and the Scottish Cup between 2011 and 2013.

His stellar midfield displays saw him clinch a £12.5 million move to English Premier League side Southampton in 2013 and then a subsequent move to Tottenham three years later.

Now the new Dunfermline boss is about to find out if Wanyama can perform on a wet Saturday afternoon at Somerset Park.

From the Nou Camp to New Douglas Park, Wanyama has seven games to prove he can still kick it and help Lenny save the Pars Championship skins.

The midfielder, who turns 34 in June, revealed that he even turned down clubs in England as well as offers from the Middle East to answer the Irishman's SOS.

Wanyama insisted that he still enjoys a special relationship with his former Celtic mentor whom he still refers to as 'gaffer'.

He said: "Neil Lennon has been checking on me, and we've been speaking. He's been checking out for me if I'm doing well. He's a very good manager. He doesn't forget his players, and that's a good sign.

I always had a special relationship with Neil and not only him but also my teammates back at Celtic. We've been keeping in touch and ringing each other on the phone.

"Neil was important because he helped me a lot to know how to live outside the game and be a top professional. In football, he improved my game and sharpened me as a player. So, he played a big role during my career at Celtic. He helped me also to be who I am today. I worked hard and made a career from his advice and also his coaching.

When I met Lenny and the owner, also, and what he wants to do with this club. The intention he has with the club is to take it to the next level.

"The gaffer spoke to me and told me what he wanted to do and advised me that I should just come down and we should do this work together and take the club to the next level.

"Selling Dunfermline to me wasn't that tough. I know the manager, of course. He's good. He's a winner, of course. So combining what the manager said to me and the owner, it was a no-brainer. I just had to come down and just come and try and help.

"I wouldn't say it was a favour, but he wanted us to come here and do the reunion and work together.

"I'm looking forward and that's something that I cannot deny, especially coming from him, the gaffer, so I couldn't turn it down.

“I had other offers a lot of them were from abroad, the Middle East. I decided to take up this offer, especially in Scotland.

“It's special, so I decided to choose here."

Wanyama has not kicked a ball in earnest since last July after ending his four-year association with MLS side Montreal Impact

He insists he is fit and raring to go.

As it stands, Dunfermline sit six points clear of bottom club Airdrieonians and are still at risk of being involved in the Championship play-offs. However, the East End Park side does have a game in hand over eighth-placed Hamilton, who are currently two points ahead.

Wanyama reckons that there is still life in the old dog yet and that he is as hungry and ambitious as ever to prove that he is cut from the same cloth as his manager as the Irishman is a born winner.

If he and Lenny can cement Dunfermline's Championship status then it will be classed as winning of sorts.

He said: "Of course, I am fit. I've been training, so I'm fit. I've been just training back home. In January, I moved to London and I've been training with Barnet the local team in London. I've been keeping fit, so I'm good to go.

"I'm always ambitious. I play football with purpose. At the moment, our challenge is to be safe and that's what we're going to play for.

"That's the challenge and we want to win to get into a better place. Of course, if we can avoid the play-off, that would be even a plus.

"We will take it game by game and see how we can get up.

"The manager said that the club had talented players but lacked leaders. He told me that he wanted me to come in and lead by example

“I'm looking to drag a few players with me and try and help them to be on the same page. I know the talent is there. I'll just try to put a lot of belief in them and not be scared to make a mistake. Football is a game of mistakes. If you make a mistake then you get up and try again. That's what drives players and gets them to improve.

"Hopefully, we can do that and not be shy and we can prove that we are a good team who can get themselves out of this position.

"Wherever I have been, I have always challenged myself and tried to get the club to the next level. This is a challenge that I'm looking forward to accomplishing. I'm ready, and hopefully, as a team, we can do it."

If the Pars can pull off their version of the great escape would that be enough to convince Wanyama to sign a more permanent deal with the Fifers?

Wanyama said: “I want to first help the club, make sure we're in a safe place. And then after the end of the season, we can sit down and discuss. At first, the challenge is to get the club to where they belong.

"At the moment, they're not sitting in a good place, so we have to fight as a team and get in a good place. After that, we can sit down and discuss things again."

Lenny will be hoping that it turns out to be a 'Magnificent Seven' game stretch for the Kenyan as you get the feeling there will be much to discuss come May.

My neighbour was at the game yesterday. Was telling me he gave the ball away every single time and looked totally out of place and overweight

Lenny should never have brought Wanyama back. It was a gimmick and it is now an embarrassment.
    He is finished.

Whether he’s a shrewd signing or a dum one will tell in time but that time isn’t now, daft red card and unfit or not…
