and maybe bring our wage structure in line with what we’re paying for fees. Time to get these guys on more wages and keep them, also attracts bigger fees when and if they get sold

I really hope we are trying to give him a bumper deal to keep him longer. Absolutely unplayable at the minute. Said last night at the game, but if he played through the middle all the time for us, he would get more goals than Kyogo did. The guy is unreal.

His finishing is underrated really when you think of it, he's absolutley clinical in front of goal. Rarely misses chances and mostly even scores goals where most wouldn't.

Part of it probably is he never shoots when you compare him to other "strikers" who try and get shots away and stuff, Maeda more only ever attempts a shot or header when he pounces onto balls in good areas.

A month or so ago I had Kuhn ahead of him, but the last number of weeks have just been frightening....POTY is his for the taking, a new contract (with significant wage increase) will be on the way....simples.

League 41 shots 19 on target 11 goals
Champions League 15 shots 7 on target 4 goals
Scottish Cup 8 shots 6 on target 4 goals
League Cup 9 shots 7 on target 6 goals

    Thats his stats actually.

He's only hit 73 shots, 47 on target and scored 25 goals

    Incredible stats

If you compare that to Shankland, he'* 70 shots just in the League and only scored 4 goals. Igamane has hit 69 scored 9, Idah has hit 55 scored 8, Kyogo 64 scored 10, Dessers 41 scored 8, Hale 73 scored 8, Danilo 35 scored 5.

So other players hitting about 5-17 shots per goal and Maeda less than 3.

Not trying to flog him :giggle1:, but his value will have gone up considerably, and he is still only 27.
I would agree he is the main man at striker now, and seems to have taken over the Kyogo role in the team seamlessly.
Just wish he had been a bit more clinical in the Bayern game.

He's only 9 goals away from equalling Kyogo's best season tally aswell. He could very well top it on current trajectory and most of his goals came from the wing. He's frightening right now...

The guy is a machine, I wouldn’t be shocked if he could score and assist 50 in a season if played through the middle. He is the reason I think we should try sign a Jota profile RW and not spend big on an out and out CF.

Turns out the Japanese manager knew what he was doing, and all this time we've had him wasting away on the wing :fear:

Cameron Carter-Vickers has revealed that Daizen Maeda has caught the eye of Bayern Munich’s superstars.

Celtic’s Japanese forward took his goal tally for the season to 25 on Tuesday with a double against Aberdeen

Now one of the favourites to win the various player of the year awards, Maeda’s total includes four goals in the Champions League - most recently against the German giants at Parkhead

Speaking after the 5-1 win over Aberdeen, Brendan Rodgers claimed Maeda’s white-hot form and incredible numbers will inevitably see him linked with bigger clubs.

Carter-Vickers desperately hopes his team-mate is going nowhere but discovered after last week’s second leg in Bavaria last week that Maeda is beginning to turn heads at the very top of European football.

He said: ‘It’s crazy. I was actually talking to Eric Dier (ex Spurs team-mate) after we played Bayern and he said after the first leg all the Bayern players were talking about him, about how much he runs and how much energy he puts into a game. It’s incredible

We were just having a general chat about the two games and he said after the first leg they got the running stats put up in their changing room. Everyone was talking about how much high-speed distance he did.

‘His work rate is incredible. He outworks defenders, is always on the move, is hard to pick up. He is a threat.

‘I don’t know what is going on in his head, but he seems to be enjoying his football at the moment and is great to have around the training ground and stuff. He definitely seems happy to me, but I am not him.’

Generally deployed as a winger by Rodgers when Kyogo Furuhashi was at the club, Maeda has effortlessly moved into a central role, scoring 10 times since his compatriot signed for Rennes.

Carter-Vickers believes no one should be surprised with how well he’s performed since moving in-field.

‘He’s an intelligent football player. We know he can play on the wing or through the middle. For Japan he plays through the middle so he has definitely got that know-how. I am not too surprised.’

Asked if he felt Maeda had improved technically in the last year, Carter-Vickers said: ‘I wouldn’t say an improvement. He is definitely peaking at the moment, whether that is fitness wise I don’t know

He is always on the move, always running. We always knew he had that quality and he is showing it now

We get all the stats in terms of high-speed running and sprint distances and he is always top of the charts.

‘Physically, in terms of his running power and capacity, I don’t know if anyone in the squad could get to that level to be honest. It’s something unique to him that he has naturally. When you see a guy working that hard it definitely makes you want to put in a shift as well.

His English has improved since he’s been here. He’s a funny guy actually, he is quietly funny. He’s a little bit of a prankster. Just little things. He doesn’t necessarily talk too much, it’s his mannerisms and stuff like that. He definitely likes a little laugh

    Pretty damning on Kyogo.

Was evident for ages he was missing easy chances yet escaped any criticism.

There were a few of us mentioning how many chances he was missing.
