Whiskey is a rough drink it burns the throat and esophagus on a first sip.

Why people drink this pish is beyond me.

Glenlivet Founders Reserve in a blue box at co-op is usually £30+ but every now and then they reduce the price to £24 and it's a really nice whisky, clear, lovely on the tongue and just enough burn of your throat to remind you its 40%, give it a go at the cheaper price and thank me later

The cheaper the whisky/ey, naturally the rougher/nastier it's going to be. Where and how it's made matters and even within that there is a whole spectrum, in terms of smoothness, smokeyness, sweet or citrus etc. Rough as guts bottle of cheap American bourbon, such as Jim Beam white or a cheap * blend such as Famous Grouse, really needs coke or ginger ale or something to mask it, because it's horrible sh*t on it's own.

Like an Islay whisky but don’t drink much at all these days.

Jura, Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Talisker all really good stuff.

Only ever drink them straight, no mixer or ice.

I like just a couple of drops of water in mine.

Not a conisseour by any stretch. Very much a novice.

Would like to learn more about it and experience more without becoming too much of a hipster and feel the wrath of Pad :84:
