Don’t trust google AI and can’t find any info to confirm it, does anyone know if this is right?

He did play an insane amount of games for us, but every game for that many years is insane man

The 822 appearances is correct, I just know that for some reason but it mentions Cesar playing in EVERY GAME from 1957 - 1975, I don't actually know but I'd be surprised if anyone could play for 18 years and not miss a game, does anyone know?

    809 games.
I’ve got the 125 years of Celtic book up to 2013 and went through every page of it when updating the top 100 appearances list on this site.
Look at page 21 and it will show the current up to date list.
The figure in brackets is the amount of trophies in EVERY competition he played in not just the EC/ SC/LC/League

Averages out about 45 a season that, there was less games a season back then so sorta plausible but surely no? Feels like it’d be something that would be mentioned anytime he’s mentioned that.

When scouting about trying to confirm this or not though, a * incredible stat that’s definite is he never once got subbed as a Celtic player, played every minute of his 822 games. That’s absolutely wild

Ahh you’re the man for this question if anyone is! Found that in his 18 years for us, he apparently never got an injury, and he played every minute of every game he appeared in. And it averages out 45 odd games a season, which is very plausible for that timeframe in football.

it’s a mind boggling fact if he did but.

Celtic wiki has his appearances as 789 so I'm no sure where I got 822, it does say he only played 22 league games in season 1964/65 so the continuous record looks wrong too

I just checked the Celtic FC website and they have his appearances as 790 and it'd be good to think they would know but I stand to be corrected.

The 789 is for the main comps not including Glasgow cup and the other comps he played

It’s very annoying in my frantic googling the last wee while I never thought to check appearances per season:56:

Cheers mate. Regardless though, it’s a remarkable amount of games and consistency over that length of time. And the never being subbed played 90 minutes of every game is equally as impressive. Even with how many more games a season there is these days, think his appearance record is untouchable.

I’d imagine a difficult thing to confirm, someone like Davie the Tour Guide would be best placed to answer something like that I’d imagine.

What I do know is fact though is he played every minute of every game he ever started for us, that’s as impressive a stat!

Never played every game as he did miss League games.

Mental the people he played with, like he played for Celtic with Bobby Evans and Tommy Burns.

Tommy Burns last played for us in November 1989 and Evans first played for us in in August 1944.
