I know Jota is back, Casper is delightful and that CalMac has not put a foot wrong, but it must be a straight fight between these two (a friendly one mind you) as to who is Player of the Year

If I were to guess, I'd imagine it something to do with the fact that in Japan (and many Asian cultures) it's custom to say the family name before the given name, so he'd be Maeda Daizen. Where as here the opposite is true.

So here our Japanese players have decided to use the name that is first spoken in English, as they would in Japanese. In English that would be Daizen of course.

Nakamura had Nakamura on his shirt rather than Shunsuke though, so I'd imagine it's a preference that is interchangeable. Maybe Kyogo picked it first and everyone followed suit. Reo, Daizen, Tomoki etc

    Personal choice, in short.

It's all worth considering with Maeda being able to lead the press much more effectively than Idah, especially as Munich hold such a highline.. he was the reason Bayern had to sit deeper and we were so effective especially in the opening 20mins of the match..

If you add Jota's better use of the ball then Maeda's on the left .. I think the tactics and starting line up were correct.

No guarantee we get into those positions with Idah, although I do believe he would have scored the cut back from Engels.. it's pure speculation tho.

I just thought it strange that we elected to bench our £9M natural striker for such an all important game. Maeda is better deployed on the left I feel, because he is a converted striker. Not really clinical enough in front of goal to risk against Bayern I thought, and I think Maeda's three missed good opportunities bore that out. When you consider how deadly Idah was against Villa away from home, it made sense to me to capitalise on his hot streak, by starting him against Bayern, and not to let his head drop again by benching him. We focussed on accomodating Jota, and that gamble backfired I feel, rather than going with both Idah and Maeda.

Speculation yes, but informed speculation I would suggest.

    Aye, I see your points..

But if we analyse the first leg we didn't impact the game until we moved Maeda to the centre and brought Jota and Schlupp on, Schlupp was particularly important in Munich too..

Maeda did miss a chances, but the way we set up was superb..

So, not sure we can criticise Rodgers for one of our best away European performances ever! He got it spot on.. and there's no speculation in that, just facts.

No direct criticism of Rodgers intended, he did superbly well to take us so far in the Champions League, he can't be held accountable for the clinicalness/conduct/temperament of our players on the field. These are tactical choices and decisions that are made by the management well in advance of the game, sometimes they go your way, sometimes they don't, and these are the breaks, and we did come within a cat's whisker of taking it to extra time. Maybe if Maeda had stayed down when he was fouled, we might have made it over the line, sometimes you have to be cute and play the game to get the result you seek. I read the German media and press were all saying we were the better team and would have won bar for our " clumsy forwards ".:giggle1:

Trying to pass data protection in my job in order to access an application is difficult in my job.

Asian's always use the UK version of their name when they submit an application but almost always forget when they contact us for an update.

We cannot advise unless the name matches exactly.

Just a quirk of different cultures.

I can't think of another Celtic player in my lifetime who would have got to that.

    He's overtaking Kühn as POTY.

Should be our starting ST the next two games, up to Idah to win his spot back.

Done excellent for the goal and took the disallowed goal well.

Agree with this. He's the main man at the moment.

Not even up for debate for me now, Kuhn is a cracking player and in blistering form the first half of the season but he's slumped a bit for a while even though he's still contributing well overall, Maeda has been his usual relentless self but added more end product, he's the one player I'm really worried about losing in the summer that we have no way of replacing his all round contribution, he's that unique.

First half of the season pre-January he stayed in touching distance of Kuhn for PotY, since January and Kyogo leaving he’s kicked it up another couple of notches, and not just his form, it’s him taking up the responsibility when we criticising not replacing Kyogo and he’s far outshining anything Kyogo was doing under Rodgers. That’s something that nails him as PotY as of right now anyway. Can’t stress enough how important he’s been to take on that mantle. If he didn’t, the impact of Kyogo going would be an ongoing issue in the support and would become a bigger issue on the pitch. Maeda’s made the transfer of a striker who was being compared as the best we’ve had since Henrik be something nobody even bothers to mention barely a month after he left. That’s genuinely remarkable

I’ve always been a bit baffled there’s never any transfer talk about him, thankfully, but this summer it’s essential we don’t have anything that even unsettles him at all.

At the tail end of this season, before the season ends and window opens it’s absolutely key to extend his contract and tie him down further, and to reward his importance to us monetarily.

Because Maeda, even before he’s found the killer edge up front was irreplaceable, him just now irreplaceable seems like it’s not strong enough a description
