I would say his two best European performances (by a distance) came in this campaign - Leipzig at home and Bayern away.

Still need a proper CDM in the future, but it was nice to see him stand up and be counted yesterday.

Yet another top performance by a guy who can't do it in Europe in the 6.

    Legend.

I don’t think he’s been as involved at times this year but that was a joke of a performance last night.

He’s been one of the best players on the park in just about every CL game for me this year.

Will still see the usual narrative from people outwith the club saying he doesn’t do it in Europe.

Been a huge fan of Calmac since he broke into the side as a CAM, some of his early goals were incredible.

I understand how certain fans question the lack of physicality as a DCM in European games, but for me he compensates with other qualities such as intelligence and technique, certainly domestically.

I’m certain he could have headed to other more lucrative clubs at various points in his career (Leicester under Rodgers had a sniff) but his loyalty is immeasurable, and I genuinely hope he can get to the top 10 Celtic appearances

    What a guy!

We would be a weaker side without him in it. Knows when to push the team up the park and take control. A Celtic legend.

Just reckon that we need to manage his game time in order to get the best out of him from now until the end of his career.
He is going to start against Hibs at weekend when he should be on the bench. Just feel we are flogging him due to * poor recruitment, surely there should be someone onboard with a view to giving him proper rest periods between important games, just feel it would help him stay injury free.
With proper game time management, he will be good for another 3 or 4 more years.

He simply can’t play 2 games in quick succession anymore, we need another option in there. Was the stem of a lot of issues today, McCowan should never of been hooked before him today.

Wouldn't say he's dipped, he was excellent against Bayern.

    He wasn't good today though

He was good on Tuesday but his domestic form has been well below his normal high standards.

He was very heavy legged today going by his usual standards. The same can be said for many on the pitch today. It's a cliche but that was every bit a 'European hangover' performance.

I think he badly needs someone to properly rotated with at CDM.

He really should’ve been rested today.

It feels like every other player is under the eye of the sports science except McGregor and it really doesn’t make any sense.

We need him well-rested and ready to go or teams will just run over the top of us.

Maybe with Bernardo being out injured prevented that?

I think so but I would give McCowan the 90 today and at least split the time between Hatate and McGregor if you have to.

I wouldn’t have been against adjusting the formation slightly to play two strikers at least part of the game too.

I know that’s not ideal and hindsight etc. but we’ve lost today and run several players even further into the ground. It’s a bit of a nightmare..

Yeah and this is with the benefit of hindsight again, but sadly McCowan was honking today.

Think it's clear in the summer that we need someone who can reliably rotate with him as he's not getting any younger.

I also think there's a lot to be said for getting some more physicality in the midfield too.

    What did McCowan do though?

He was losing duels with players who were on the deck..
