Our board have to start actually backing Rodgers, I didn't want him back but it's obvious that he's a top manager who improves players and has given us back our pride in europe, it's also noticeable that he hasn't signed a contract extension and not replacing Kyogo just shows what he's up against with our accountants board. Back him or lose him after his contract ends.

    They already have.

The way I see it is he and the club have finally came to an understanding on the way forward. Rodgers knows we can't support ridiculous sums of money being spent every window and he's accepted that.

By the same token the club have met him in the middle by upping their threshold of what they're willing to spend, and realise that you can still be ambitious without being reckless.

We've struck the perfect balance now by the looks of it. 100% confident we'll continue that in the summer for players we've already identified who we'd have previously been reluctant to commit to.

    Exciting times ahead.

I wish I shared your confidence, we didn't meet his expectations in Jan, even though we had plenty of time to get a striker in..

If we fail to match his vision in the summer, he'll do next season and that's that.. we should have had players in the door now for the CL qualifier, as we may lose a couple too..

Although KT will be a massive addition.

Keeping this team is going to be just as difficult as bringing players in imo.

After last night and the way we have did so well in Europe players will be getting looked at here in the Summer.

I honestly think we are 4 players off having a great team that could run riot in Scotland and put themselves about in Europe.

I think the board have kinda backed him with Engels and Trusty etc....But i would like to push the boat out a little further for these 4 extra big game players that cant be brung on and off that bench and change games.

Look at where we are as a fan base....Paradise is rocking weekly....Money coming in...belief in everyone...and CL nights like this....

Why would the board * all this up? they know they would be chased if they did......I think the way we have presented ourselves the board might actually see this as a step of making even more money now.

We have over £130 million in the bank.....Spend it FFS and pull away from Sevco even more...make the CL each year and make more and more money.

It won't be the last time we fall short in a transfer window, doesn't mean we're not backing him. There's a big difference in the club not willing to back him, and not getting our business over the line.

Think he's well aware of that, he's not daft.

We still failed to match Rodgers expectations. Numerous times during the window he spoke about getting a striker in and failed to do so..

We clearly tried to get a striker in though, and it didn't happen. Rodgers will be aware of that, and was probably heavily involved, so I'm no sure he'll view it as failing to match his expectation.

Jota, in, Tierney pre contract and schlupp in is all good business.

As @Double Dutch said, it's no longer a question of reluctance or ambition, we have raised the bar in terms of spending thresholds and wages.
KT, Engels, Idah and Jota clear evidence of that, trying to get Kvistgaarden in also.

It's now a question of competence and the club getting better at actually preparing and implementing a strategy and efficiently securing players.
The second half of the Jan window was very poor near the end as we waited too long, sold players without incoming secured and looked frankly, desperate.
That's exactly why Brendan and the club are driving a review of our recruitment (buying) - let's hope it improves in the summer.
If not, we might just lose an elite manager.

I was happy with the window and argued that we had enough to finish the league off (I still think that, as the Huns are running out of games) and that a striker and a LB wouldn't make much difference gainst Bayern. Given how the tie went, though, it's pretty obvious I was wrong about that second part.

I'm not saying that we would have won if we had got the striker Rodgers wanted, got KT in (or got Schlupp in a couple of weeks earlier) and the extra winger a lot of people on here were asking for; but it's clear we would have had a chance. The difference between Taylor in the first leg and Schlupp in the second was stark and our subs clearly weakened us.

I got that one wrong and Rodgers should have been given what he was asking for.

Yip but you presume Rodgers blames the board.

He definitely has identified flaws in our recruitment strategy and has spoken about learning, so we're better prepared.

He was professional on how he conducted himself in the media after the window but was definitely frustrated.

He didn't get what he wanted and spoke about the squad being 'light' .. who knows how he actually felt behind the scenes.

So it's a collective failing between scouting and the money men.. difficult to know from the outside who was most culpable.

But, like I say another 'failure' in the summer could make CL qualification tricky, a tie we should have prepared the squad better for in Jan, not to mention the potential of losing some key players.. and like I say if we fail to get what he wants/needs again he'll definitely walk at the end of next season.

We've seen it countless times. So unsure how anyone can be confident the board will match his expectations.

I'd imagine he'd walk BEFORE the end of the season if he's getting the runaround...

But, in the boards defence (I know!) Rodgers is on record more about getting the RIGHT players in, and * out the WRONG moves made, than he is complaining about not getting a striker in this window... He's not happy about it, but he's not really moaning either... Feels like we were trying and he knows the board weren't really the blame on this to me... But frustration at running out of time/meeting an unmoving seller won't save anyone if we can't get something done MANY MONTHS later, and rightly so...

We can second guess Rodgers feelings but, for me, it's clear he is heavily involved in the recruitment process and will know exactly why we didn't manage to get the targets he wanted in the door. If it's down to penny pinching by the board, then he'll blame them, if it's down to players/agents/selling team playing hardball then he'll be fine, as long as he sees he's getting backed, which he has imo.

For me, the club trying to back him and not managing to meet his expectations through adopting a poor recruitment strategy are two different things..

Rodgers has had to be heavily involved in recruitment, which isn't really his forte.

There was zero sign of any influence from Tisdale in the Jan window as we've only signed ex-players and Schlupp, a Rodgers signing.

I hope we see that change in the summer, it needs to. Rodgers gets the players needed and can concentrate in developing the team.

I want him to stay longer than another year and summer recruitment will be pivotal for that to happen.
