We were a hair's breadth away from what would have been the second greatest victory in our history.

That's why it's so hard to take but also why we're so proud.

You want to read up on the history if you think that would’ve been the second greatest victory in our history, European cup runners up beating the best teams in Europe to get to the final, probably a harder run than 67. European cup semi finalists twice, quarter finals a few times as well. I agree in modern times it would be certainly up there but ffs we were one of the best teams in Europe from the late 60s to the late 70s.

Never won a game in Germany, never beat Bayern, never won a second leg in the European Cup after having lost the first leg against anyone.

Not to mention the fact that they've won the thing 6 times and made the semi final last year.

And considering the money gap that never existed before the 90s, it makes it even more remarkable.

It would have been an astronomical win for us.

It would have been an absolutely astronomical win for us, but to say it would’ve been our 2nd greatest victory is ridiculous. There was also a financial gap in the 60s and 70s when we won the thing, the Latin clubs all spent money on players (look up Alfredo di Stefano) who was from Argentina but player for Real Madrid and probably their greatest player ever, at the time Madrid spent a fortune on him. The rest couldn’t afford to at the time, that’s why us being the first non Latin club to win the European cup is made such a big thing of.

They way we pressed, took it to them, dominated spells and were so composed was as good as I've ever seen us in Europe..

Even in our best days under MON we'd have lucky spells and ride our luck, then maybe come back in to it like Turin away. Vigo. Albeit Liverpool and Ajax 3-1 are standouts in my lifetime and utter greatness..

There was no fluke about our performance l, belief and taking the lead. We had them in real trouble..

Late on hurts but im proud as *..

No Latin teams won the European Cup in the whole of the 1970's.

Feels devastating to lose like that. At one point I genuinely thought we could do it, but felt more nervous as it went on. Definitely think we should have pushed on a bit more at the end because sitting back almost always invites it.

Just hope we can keep most of this team together. This is the most accomplished we've looked in Europe in forever, which is no surprise given that most of this team actually has a lot of CL/EL experience now.

I think another 4 quality additions sees us take another big step forward in Europe. Maybe more if we lose some of our key players.

But we MUST keep building now. No excuses.

    Just got back home
    What a performance tonight
In the stadium we just looked so composed
Yep big Kasper made one or two big saves but we had one or two chances that on another night who knows

Fantastic stadium but frigging nightmare getting out
The polis were being dicks trying to antagonise some of our lot
Anyway my birthday today so off to bed

FFS, i said we were the first non Latin team to win it when we won it in 67, before that it was always Latin teams.

It felt like it could've been that special night the night man..

Lost my uncle (da's brother) yesterday morning and he took me everywhere with Celtic from early as a wean. My missus is a teacher and on half term here so me and her planned last week that this was our blowout day with weans going back either side, it was all aligning..

I said early goal and frighten them that's all I wanted. Just for my uncle. Then when we scored I was like this is fate man, this guy seen us win the European cup in our pomp but that cruel ending is what a lot of us are accustomed to these days. I honestly had a feeling this was our one and the wee man was looking down..

Bit * man. Had a lot of * recently. My older brother. My uncle and pal. This was his release always, you'd never find a bigger Tim than him (and bitter as well) and i loved it :giggle1: That's my generation above for games gone on the guys side, my da and his brother. Will probably hit home more soon. Nearly done it Roberto! :shamrock:

Sorry to hear that mate, hope you and your families doing okay.

Who knows, maybe this kind of performance in Europe could be the catalyst for a much more competitive era for Celtic in Europe… I’m sure he’ll be looking down proud!

A magnificent and disciplined defensive and offensive performance by Celtic against Bayern, we fully deserved to take it to extra time, and who knows what would have happened then.

Celtic have really grown again and renewed their reputation in the Champions League, now we need to build on that foundation again for next year's campaign.

    We never stop.

It seemed to me like we were going to do it also.

The entire two legs against them I just couldn't see them scoring and felt we were completely comfortable, it is sickening a bit that in a knockout tie against a "giant" we were that comfortable but lacked the wee bit of luck and passed up a few chances as we probably on performance should have knocked them out.

Aye mate, I'm just venting as it's our night off and blowout that was planned, missus a teacher on half term here..

Feel like loads happening man. Brother on remand for murder and attempted. Our uncle dead. Both in a week. Definitely no functioning normal here..

On us, the signs are crystal clear. A top coach has worked wonders with this squad. Most complete I've seen..

How much will Celtic get for that result and in total.
Lawwell will be creaming his pants and if he had actually spent on better quality players we would have been through to last 16

So proud of the team, we were immense. Linesman was a disgrace. One thing that surprised me was how positive Alan Shearer was about us in commentary, glowing all the way through. Always thought he was a bit of a * but it’s the most positive I have ever heard commentary about us.

Didn't post after the game as too many many emotions flying around.

Woke up feeling absolutely gutted but also so damned proud of that performance - to a man we were exceptional and deserved to take it extra time. The joy and relief on the Bayern players' faces when the equalizer went in says it all.

Hopefully this campaign is a turning point for us moving forward in Europe as we can show we can learn and compete - huge credit to Brendan and his backroom staff too.

    Hail Hail :ynwacelti

Proud with that performance. If the board dont open the biscuit tin big time to keep us at this level in europe then they should be chased. Oh aye we dont want any huns in parkhead neither. HH

    100% a foul and a red card.

A shocking decision that could've helped us massively.
