If you look at the lines on the grass he's in pretty much in line with CCV and AJ until about a half second before the ball is played, basically as soon as Olise is about to dart. He then drops slightly to cover the run.

If he let's him go he's probably offside. Yeah. If he's not offside and GT allows himself to be outpaced by playing the lines, GT is slaughtered because its probably an easy goal for Bayern at that point. By us and his teammates/Brendan.

Clearly there is mixed opinions about it. Even if it wasnt perfect from GT, I don't think it was a crazy piece of defending or anything for me.

I kind of agree on AJ, that he was good outside of those moments.

I just find it hard to put those moments aside. He should really have cost us 2 goals. The fact he lost Kane in the first half should have been warning enough. I've talked about it in the AJ thread but it the defending really baffled me. He's picking noone up at all.

That goal was such a gift. It was * and a massive black mark on his performance.

Always seems that we lose a goal from his side in the majority of games of significance.

We need better whether that's for backup or not, if not then we know the inevitable is going to recur time and time again.

Out of his depth against good opposition in the CL and we cannot afford to be carrying passengers with bad luck and not at the level required.

He's been a good servant and you cannot deny his effort but his mistakes and lack of quality are undoing a lot of the work the collective are putting in.

Agreed olise is a great player and it was a great finish, though there is a but...

That but is this, I think it we had a player of the standard or aj in the lb position it plays out completely different. Firstly, when receiving the ball aj is straight on top of his man, challenging even receiving the ball - that moment is huge. It'll change the first touch olise takes and his entire intention. If he doesn't contend the pass he will be tight against olise and might make the only space to run into to thr wide position , still dangerous but nowhere near as dangerous as finding space between the full back and cb. If olise does try to go inside against aj, that deflection will work out differently, aj would react quicker and get it away somehow. Even if it did deflect with aj their, he turns quicker and keeps the pressure on olise.

Yes Taylor was a touch unfortunate, I won't deny that but there was so much wrong with that first goal, all coming from Taylor. He can only be unlucky so many times before you can't call it bad luck

Would have him as 3rd choice from now on. Schlupp->Youngster->Taylor. No need to play a guy who's not staying. More chance of Schlupp staying.

The big moment was the Kane one. He got away with the first and ultimately didn't cost us so happy to overlook that.

I found it strange it was him that was even tasked with marking Kane in the first instance.

I'm not arguing that we don't need better than Taylor in the champions league, we do and hopefully Tierney is that guy.

Talking about this one incident, I think the boy took it brilliantly and there's not really much else Taylor could really have done. I think cause it's Taylor there's a bit of a pile on with the criticism. I've just watched the highlights and trusty gets done by the same boy in the box and only a good save from Schmeichel saves a goal, but there's not the same outrage. Similarly with Johnston losing kane twice at corners.

Again, I'm no criticising Trusty or Johnston, I'm just saying they're up against top quality players and bayern will destroy better teams than us.

Being widest player he should be in total control of the line when ball is on opposite side and know that he's too deep compared to the rest. These days with var all he has to do is step up in line knowing that even if linesman gets it wrong var will correct it.

It's not a crazy piece of defending.....it's just weak defending, which is pretty much what we have came to expect from him

Brendan, there were a couple of times the other night when some fans were quick to get on Greg Taylor’s back if he wasn't going forward. Do you think they need to show a bit more patience there?

I thought the crowd were brilliant the other night. I thought they were fantastic, the noise level. Maybe because it was a knock-out game it felt even more than what it normally does.

I thought the atmosphere was incredible in the game. I thought we had great support, naturally. You misplace a pass, whatever, it's going to happen. I thought the crowd were brilliant.

Not a "Taylor Basher" He is what he is and gives us 100% Just wondering who was supposed to be on Kane at the corners. Would think CCV, Trusty or Idah. Trusty was too busy with his two arms round someone holding onto his shirt

1st half it was Johnston and he was in that back post area as corner was coming in for Kane's goal so I'd assume it was still him.

I slaughter Taylor as much as anyone but kane wasn't his man and he tracked Guerrero across the 6 yard box so don't think he's too blame.

Standing smiling and making faces at Guerrero as the corner was about to be taken * me off tho

Definitely AJ. Trusty and CCV were marking their CBs and Idah was front post.

AJ was on no one at all

When at any level of football does one of your tallest players go on the front post defending a corner? Baffling.....
