Absolute bawhair between them, margin was too big but I had Usyk by 1 possibly 2.

He’s a special fighter, was before the rematch and remains it. To compete with a guy that big and that skilled over so long takes an elite level performer.

Caveat and side note though - DD beat him fair and square in the first fight.

Watched it in the pub with my mates after the gig tonight. I don’t follow boxing but thought Usyk deserved the win. Bored me to tears though, such a * sport.

I'd much rather watch your YouTube guys throwing wild punches trying to kill each other completely uncontrolled than the pish I seen last night. Yawn.

Except the YouTube guys don’t do that at all it’s just actual boxing but at a really * low level.

    Ukrainian * champion

    European * champion

    World * champion

    Absolutely unreal.

We’re witnessing something very, very special in Usyk. It’s similar to when Pacquiao was marauding through the weight classes (albeit less ferocious) - he’s capable of doing things that physically though be beyond him. Really special fighter, and seems like a great man too.

Everyone appreciates the skill, but the ‘will’ really is one of absolute steel. He’s able to push through difficult rounds in fights, and turn the tide as well as anyone I’ve seen in decades of watching boxing, and it’s one of the hardest aspects of the sports. Even at the absolute elite level, you see one fighter begin to gain momentum and the other begin to fight to survive (not get stopped) in there. Usyk toughs out the most brutal of rounds and then goes on to turn the tide and find a way to win.

    This is sports, mate.

Sometimes the absolute best at whatever they do cancel each other out, nullify the best aspect of one another, etc. Happens all the time in every sport.

It’s ok not to be a fan of any sport, but people do seem to hold combat sports to an impossible standard at times. The fight wasn’t as exciting as the first because neither man was ever really in trouble, but from a boxing perspective it was still close and intrigue. Think of it as an intriguing 1-0 win as opposed to a come from behind 4-3 win, like the first.

Aye, I should stick to watching street fights uploaded on reddit :56: like everyone, we're there for the knockout, rocky-esque vs the Russian style wars. Just seems * when it's basically soft jabbing pish the full time.

I’ve seen this plenty but I couldn’t disagree more. I struggled to find 4 rounds for Fury.

What rounds did you actually give to Fury?

I think a lot of people see boxing as a 36 minute fight, and just think because it’s been competitive that the scoring should reflect that.

It’s just twelve 3 minute fights that the judges need to score. They are also highly discouraged from awarding 10-10 rounds from the sanctioning bodies.

To that point, I’ve seen people say it’s a disgrace as Usyk won by 4 rounds.

He didn’t win by 4 rounds, he won by 2 rounds and therefore 4 points. If the judges give 2 of the rounds the other way then it’s a draw.

Not saying this is you mate, far from it. If you think Fury should have won more rounds then fair enough, it was a competitive fight, but there was a very obvious winner in Usyk for me.

Landed the far more clean and effective work the entire evening.

As above, just out of interest, what other rounds would you have awarded to Fury?

I had it really wide to Usyk, also had first fight wide too.

Think Usyk lands so many body shots that most people just don't score. He was landing at will in both fights, and also controlled the pace and direction in both fights.

I feel like the only time Fury looked like he had some control over the pace and direction of the fight was, I think, around round 10 where for that round he really did walk down and lean on Uysk alot with some messy hugging.

But this is boxing, not collegiate wrestling

Warren and fury are the prime example of bad sportsmanship. Just take the loss and move on without making it a conspiracy. They hyped him up as the best ever and got hit with a reality check.

    Welcome to boxing

Fury announces retirement from boxing again

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing.

Fury last fought in December when he lost his rematch against WBA (Super), WBC and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The 36-year-old Fury previously announced his retirement after beating Dillian Whyte in April 2022 but returned six months later.

The Briton has enjoyed two stints as heavyweight champion and holds a record of 34 wins, two defeats and one draw.

"Hi everybody, I'm going to make this short and sweet," Fury said.

"I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing, it has been a blast, I've loved every single minute of it and I'm going to end with this; * Turpin wore a mask."

The Briton shocked long-reigning world champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to win the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles.

After over two-and-a-half years out of the ring, during which he tackled mental health issues, Fury returned to action in 2018 and became a two-time champion by beating Deontay Wilder to claim the WBC belt in 2020.

"Every fight fan stops me in the street and asks when do we get to see that fight. AJ has made it very clear in last couple of days, he's called Fury out. It's quite unlike Anthony.

"Fury doesn't want the fight, there's nothing you can do. You can't drag him into the fight. I don't know whether this was a move to stop the flow of pressure because with AJ calling him out, pressure is mounting. It could be the start of a great build-up, great mind games or it could be the end of Tyson Fury's career.

"What lays in the palm of his hand is the biggest fight in the history of our country. Will he walk away from that? Maybe."

'He's been something special' - Warren
Fury boasted an undefeated record of 34 wins and one draw until he met Ukraine's Usyk in the first heavyweight undisputed contest of the four-belt era.

Usyk won the first meeting by split-decision and backed up that performance with a unanimous decision victory last month.

Frank Warren, who promotes Fury, told BBC Radio 5 Live he had not spoken to Fury prior to his retirement announcement.

"I've said all along that there is no way I will be trying to in anyway influence him," Warren said.

"If that what he wants to do, that's great. He's done everything he can do. Probably been the best British heavyweight of his generation by far. Two-time world champion, two closely fought fights against Usyk. He's got plenty of money, got his wits about him, got a lovely family. * bless him, enjoy.

"He's become a world star. If you look at some of the fights he's had, he's not been in one fight that hasn't been exciting. Very, very exciting fights. Big heart, got off the floor when he's been knocked down by big punches and come back to win fights. He's been something special."

For how long though? The amount of times he retired and returned it’s hard to trust a word he says.

Probably retired again so he can get even more money to come out of retirement to fight Antony Joshua.

Really sad reminder that boxing and MMA are dangerous sports where contestants literally put their lives on the line to achieve victory, RIP John Cooney.

Super-featherweight boxer John Cooney, 28, has died after his defeat by Welshman Nathan Howells in Belfast last Saturday.
The Irish boxer suffered an intracranial haemorrhage and had surgery to relieve pressure on his brain following the bout at the Ulster Hall.
"It is with complete devastation that we have to announce that after a week of battling for his life John Cooney has sadly passed away," MHD Promotions said on behalf of the Cooney family.
"Mr and Mrs Cooney and his fiancee Emmaleen would like to thank the staff at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital who have worked tirelessly to save John's life and for everyone who has sent messages of support and prayers.
The contest was stopped in the ninth round at the Ulster Hall in what was Cooney's first defence of his Celtic super-featherweight title.
