The point is that it's not a glass ceiling that can't be broken. What can go in one direction can also go in the other.

I don't think the financial gap between us and the top teams will ever reduce again. I don't think it will ever stop increasing in fact. The gulf will only get bigger in my opinion.
The top bracket of players will never be even a consideration for us cause we can never afford a deal that big. Unless a Saudi Sheikh oil tycoon billionaire buys us over and finances crazy deals. But that won't happen

Or one of those superleagues with all the big clubs will pop-up and we are invited along. Then we could bridge that gap as we would be part of those riches. But without such a scenario it would never happen as you rightly said.

Wow amount of hate he's getting in this thread despite everything he did for this club is astounding. Worried seeing many fans getting spoilt beyond belief these last few years...you think we are Real Madrid, there is more to life than Celtic and Scotland for that fact, he is MORE than entitled to go experience something different and live his life on his terms not some low IQ football fans who think they and the club they support should be owed eternal gratitude. Get a * grip!

Not too derail the thread too much but wanted to add my 2 cents on GG. He was a pure penalty box striker who threw his weight around well. Brutal “footballer” though, really didn’t have much in the way of close control etc. Good player for us but not someone I’ve ever pined for. Idah is a much better striker in my opinion.

As for Kyogo, some people really need to grow up. There’s a section of our support that turns nasty as soon as anyone leaves and it’s embarrassing behaviour. Some of the abuse directed at Tierney in particular was bizarre.

In a year, maybe even sooner, folk will realise that 10 million for him this window was an astute and savvy move.

I agree 10mil was great for him at his age.

If we had replaced him I think it would be quiet but as we didn't people are looking back on why it was done.

I'm annoyed we didn't sign a replacement but it was still the right decision to sell. I was fully behind that.

Issue is in how we acted following it.

Yeah it's disappointing we've not got someone else in but I still think it was the right time for him and us to move on, he wanted out in the summer and to be fair to him he didn't spit the dummy and has still been working his * off for the team, but his finishing just hasn't been as good and it's been really frustrating for at least a year some of the chances he's been missing. Seen a lot of people trying to put the blame all on Rodgers tactics and while he might not be the ideal fit it's not as if he wasn't getting plenty of chances still, he's just not been as efficient in front of goal.

Yep. We got an offer too good to turn down for a 30 year old striker..

Farcical we didn't put that towards a ready made replacement, any replacement even..

Sad to see him leave but made so much sense to sell when we did. All in, it was a smart move. The fact we didn’t replace him is a separate issue, that we know we * up on. Best wishes to the guy, always have a soft spot for him and he earned his status as a * class wee *

I know the reports are that he hadn’t been happy for a while, but has it been revealed why he was unhappy yet?

Problem with the manager? Salary? Playing conditions? * weather?

He was adored by the fans, he was starting most games, and wasn’t on bad money, but he surely could have negotiated a better salary if that was the issue?!
Obviously must have been something wrong!

Didn't he change his agent before last summer's transfer window too?

Would probably just assume that he was wanting to try a better league and that's why he wanted out. Always think "unhappy" is such a strong term to use. It's clear he wanted out but I certainly didn't see him downing tools or anything like that.

For me he was probably just wanting his next challenge after bossing it here for a few years.

Yeah, that makes sense then, and I fully understand it from his point of view.
Just when you hear “unhappy” it makes it sound like there was a bigger issue at play.
Still think he deserved a better club than Rennes though.
Hope it works out for him either way!

I totally get why we sold him. His form had dipped drastically.. 12 goals this season is 6 shy of Maeda. He barely ever scored away from home too. I’m not here to * on him because he was a truly great striker for us. However, presented with £10m and the opportunity to bring Jota back to the club - it was absolutely the right thing to do. At the time we all assumed he was sold because his replacement was ready to walk in the door. In reality I think it was just a case of Rennes saying “want Jota? Then sell us Kyogo. Right now.”

It’s since come to light that the board knew Kyogo was gunning for the exit for months so it’s not an excuse for not having a plan to replace him. At least no plan B, but there’s no way in * I would reverse that trade with Rennes, given the opportunity.

I just still dont get it.
He was loved here by all, staff and fans, had a core of buddies fae back hame, was realistically looking at bagging a treble this season, on the big stage in the latter stages of the biggest club competition in the world, its like a dream position to be in.
And then he decided a few months ago he wants out???? Away to fight relegation in France????
And I dont buy the * manager bullshit.
There's got to be more to this????
Did the Man City link get to him? I doubt it, as he comes across as a very humble guy.
Was he pushed out the door here?
