Not anymore there isn't. Gary Hooper was one of the top scorers in the championship, for a team that got relegated. The equivalent nowadays would probably cost over 15m.

The English market is way too overinflated and way too overhyped.

It works the other way too.

    Pukki couldn't hack it here.

Went down and scored a shitload for Norwich.

It's hard to predict with strikers

Pretty sure he's English "homegrown" where the England tax applies, as he came through the system at Fulham, and when we signed him he hadn't declared his national team. He's only Danish on his mum's side of the family

To be clear I don't actually mind Idah but the fact remains we paid over the odds for him. I'm also not saying avoid looking down south but at this moment in time you're more likely to have to pay more for less there than anywhere else.

Aye, wouldn't disagree with that at all.

Point im making is, iif Gary Hooper was playing today, under the exact same circumstances, age/ goals scored etc, he would be out of our price range due to the overinflated English market.

England is overhyped and overpriced, its a market we should take very little to do with.

He's half Danish and obviously plays for the national team. But his dad is English and he's born and bred in London.

Yeah as others have said, he counts as homegrown, which is the box they need to tick. Adds an incredible amount to a player's value.

Granted, not half as much as if he had a couple caps for England. The overinflation of young capped English players is insane. You sign a young English lad, get him some CL experience, and a cap or two, and you're * laughing.

Maybe we forgot to wake the old boy up from his midday nap? He had a whole rolodex of targets just waiting to get telegrammed!

He was probably watching Teletext waiting for news of his recommendations being signed.

No doubt recommended Schlupp as a player he first clocked in the late 70s..

Pleat’s so old that Schlupp is a young upstart disrupting the game

Back in his day they had a squad of 15 players.
