Obviously they'd be happy with him releasing himself from his contract :56:

Best solution for all parties, including arsenal, is doing a deal to let him come here. Baffling to me how anyone can even attempt to put an argument against that.

It’s only the best solution for all parties if all parties get what they want and that’s not possible here without Celtic or Arsenal giving up more than they want to.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney was a big talking point for Celtic during the January transfer window.

It has been well-documented that Tierney will return to Celtic in the summer, several years after he left his boyhood club and joined Arsenal in 2019

Celtic’s left-back spot has been a big talking point this season, with Greg Taylor dividing opinion amongst the fans and with his contract expiring in the summer.

Things were made even more interesting during the January transfer window when Celtic cut short Alex Valle’s loan spell from Barcelona.

It left the champions short at left-back, with many wondering and hoping that Tierney’s return could be fast-tracked.

But, that hasn’t been the case, with versatile Crystal Palace star Jeffrey Schlupp joining on deadline day and coming in to cover at left-back.

So, how close were Celtic to bringing back Tierney as early as January?

Tierney’s contract at the Emirates expires in the summer and the Scotsman has a pre-contract agreement in place with his boyhood club

But fans wanted Tierney to return now because they could make better use of a player sitting on Arsenal’s bench.

Despite those wishes from the Celtic fans, Rodgers has shared that ‘it wasn’t close’ and it had ‘nothing to do with Celtic’ because all of this was on ‘Arsenal’s terms’, as he told Sky Sports News (04/02/25 at 4:25 pm).

“It wasn’t close,” admitted Rodgers about Tierney joining before the summer. “It was clear, Kieran for the summer. If that was the possibility (Tierney joining in January), then it was on Arsenal’s terms. Nothing to do with Celtic. If it were to happen, then great.

“But clearly, he was a part of their squad and he will be here in the summer.”

Bit cheeky considering he’s an Arsenal player but it would probably take the edge off the greetin’ faced element of the support so they may consider it!

It is a bit weird we haven’t announced it yet. Happens all the time, announcing pre-contract signings.

Wonder if it’s just a verbal agreement at the moment because the club are worried he’ll get another bad injury.

All it means is we held out hope he’d sign permanently, exact same deal with Cummings. Agreed but not signed in case it end up being a redundant paperwork process.

I get that, but it must have been apparent by midday or so yesterday that Tierney wasn’t coming. Hence the Schlupp deal.

Would think it would have been officially announced by now.

If it was a done deal they'd have announced it asap to alleviate concerns about the window.

It could be they're holding out and trying to get Taylor to re-sign as obviously announcing a new starting LB could torpedo that.

    Confirmed he's returning in July

In addition, we extended the contract of Kasper Schmeichel and entered into a pre-contract agreement that will see Kieran Tierney return to Celtic in July 2025.

What a whelming way to announce what we already knew.
