Neither of them care about us.

Since reading Peter Turchin I see his ideas everywhere I look now, particularly the idea of elite overproduction. There is a battle going on between 2 different elite groups in the Anglosphere and that was a very minor skirmish. One side is clearly the PMC and the other is harder to identify precisely but as far as I can tell, it seems to involve much of the the billionaire class in some way e,g Musk buying Twitter and endorsing Trump and Thiel funding Vance.

It's hard for me to say which side I find scarier TBH.

I know such people exist; but surely they are much rarer than people with severe mental illness. Just going off the base rates, severe mental illness is surely more likely.

It'll be easy for the defendant to prove then. Its not the prosecutions job to provide a defence or mitigating circumstances.

I have no knowledge here. I'm just speaking from how hard I find it to understand someone doing something like this and just intuitively, it feels unlikely to be a coincidence that he is the child of parents who witnessed a horrific genocide.

But I admit that I don't know what I'm talking about here.

The thing is you have to get the facts with each individual case and make a judgement on the findings, it's complex.

A lot of crimes would merit the death sentence, but implementing it in a foolproof manner is another matter.

One did re offend again with child images … but I’m sure the other has never reoffended and should be allowed to get on with his life after he done his time if he truly has redeemed himself he will be living with that guilt for the rest of his life I’d say that punishment enough other one but is constantly found out and rehomed …. Was some dodgy * his background

I've always been 100% against the death penalty for that simple reason. In implementing it you are all but guaranteeing a percentage of innocent people being killed.

Also, I look at the countries around the world with the death penalty and I don't fancy living in any of them. Countries that give the state power to kill criminals generally aren't very nice in other aspects of culture and government. Nor do they appear to be much safer than here if the point is to avoid serious crime, terror attacks, etc.

11 year old stabbed in central London yesterday.

I don't think his punishment should be any less than the southport attacker. Just because you weren't successful in killing a child should make no difference.

These people should never see the light of day again. Horible * scumbags. An example of them needs to be made. This can not become a recurring story.

"The teenager who murdered three young girls at a dance class in Southport was referred three times to Prevent, the government’s scheme to stop terrorist violence, the Guardian has learned.

One of the referrals followed concerns about Axel Rudakubana’s potential interest in the killing of children in a school massacre, it is understood.

His behaviour, including his apparent interest in violence, was assessed by Prevent as potentially concerning. But he was deemed not to be motivated by a terrorist ideology or pose a terrorist danger and was therefore not considered suitable for the counter-radicalisation scheme."

Absolutely heartbreaking this story. No matter what his background or motivation was, what this * did was evil in the extreme.

Hope some other sick * ends him in whatever jail he ends up in. Sadly he’ll probably end up in protective till his dying day. 57 years was it he got?

I’m a big advocate for protecting people with mental health issues, which this creep clearly has, but, anycunt that harms children needs to go, imo.

Death penalty should be brought back for exceptional cases like this. £2M+ to keep this * fed and watered for 52 years. Just end him now and give that money to the victims.

Agree in some sense but that’s the easy option out.

He should be kept in solitary confinement and left to deal with his own thoughts alone every second for the rest of his days. Simple food. Never to see sunlight again.

I really struggle with this, not because I disagree but because I have no faith in the justice system to get it right 100 percent of the time.

If it's not 100 percent then it's murder.

I do wish death on child abusers and rapists. Some murders might be just though. Rapists and stoat the baws I would hang without remorse.

This is as cut and dry of a case you will ever see though, hence the exceptional circumstances being met.

He does not deserve death! He deserves to spend every waking moment in fear of death. My own personal hope is that every week that he is in prison he is attacked and injured in some way. I hope that when he does eventually die he will have lost an eye, some fingers...maybe even a hand, an ear and be covered in scars and burns and broken bones. He needs to suffer for the 52 year sentence he was handed down but not death....not yet.

Also he should receive the very very basics. no phone or computer. Just a very basic radio which is received on a built in speaker on the ceiling , only Radio 4 till he dies. Also very very basic food and only water to drink.

I'm not often in favour of capital punishment but in this case I think it should apply. What is the point in keeping him alive? Some misguided sense of humanity? To 'rehabilitate' him? He'll be nothing but a burden, financially, physically and mentally, on the prison service, the country in general and the families of the victims. He still doesn't think he's done anything wrong, far from it, he enjoys what he did, he's basically said as much so the idea of him spending his days full of remorse is wishful thinking. His antics in court show how little he cares. This is a person with nothing inside him but pure evil and he should be removed from this world ASAP.
