Rodgers has been here 18 months and never once played Daizen through the middle, it's unlikely that he suddenly thinks this is the future

Pretty sure he played there not so long ago with kyogo wide left and Maeda scored a couple. Can't remember against who tho.

August in the league Cup against Hibs but Kyogo never played.
Was the Aberdeen semi final, scored a hat trick whilst playing through the middle with Kyogo wide left.

I would be happy trying Maeda out through the middle but I feel he'll always be more effective on the wing. Team sit so deep and keepers tend to stay fairly high that I just don't see him getting the room to run onto a through ball or whatever like he does sitting off the defender on the wing.

Can anyone also explain to me what happened before his red? All I needed for my coupon was a maeda foul….. ref blows the whistle for what then?

the red is obviously violent conduct after the fact but what did the ref blow the whistle for in the first place? Surely it was a maeda foul???

Seemingly blew to give the yellow card for the kick, which got upgraded to a red.

Annoyingly, it was actually a foul originally on Meada and should have been a second yellow card to the YB player.
Had meada not kicked out, I don't think the ref would have blown at all for either side though

Sadly mate, I think the ref blew for a Maeda offside, as he was coming back from their half and it was actually their player that fouled Maeda, which lead to him then kicking out back at the guy if I remember correctly.

Although, they did take the freekick in our half I think which would suggest otherwise but folk just take free kicks where ever they want.

Ahhhh arseholes! I did think with the free kick being taken in our half he’d blown for the Maeda foul as that’s what it looked like originally. Makes sense though now boys cheers :notworthy

Makes me wonder why he gave the yellow then?
Not doubting the offside, but questions where he thought the foul was if the offside was the decision made?
Because then it comes down to he most certainly seen the incident and called it a yellow and wasn't a clear and obvious error etc.

Wonder if we will appeal it?

He gave the yellow for Maeda’s reaction which was then upgraded to a red by VAR review. So he got booked for kicking out and that’s how it should have stayed. To upgrade that to a red was not a clear and obvious error.

He's kicked him when play had already been stopped, it's a red card all day long. Var intervened bcoz it was an obvious error from the ref. Which wasn't a suprise bcoz he got just about every other decision wrong all night.

Kicking out at an opponent when play has been stopped isn't a yellow. That was the clear and obvious error.

Not when the other player is at it though which var cleverly didn’t show in the videos or how about when var didn’t show the encroachment during the penalty

All poor decisions mate. Also thought push on Maeda was a pen in 1st half that var should have hot involved in too.

The defender had been a * all night which probably explains Maeda's reaction but can't disagree with the red card. Can't do that anymore especially not in champions league.

Bigger worry is if it was classed as violent conduct and he gets 3 games ban and misses playoffs aswell

That wasn't the case. Maeda still played wide left in that game with Kyogo through the middle. He's never started a game through the middle while another striker has been available.

Maeda should not have kicked out but too me he was still playing as if the game hadn’t stopped, the ref had blew the whistle before their player made contact.

I actually think it was on Maeda their full back had a kick at him when we won a throw in up near their box on our left. Maeda runs past him to go get the ball and he properly boots out just after he had passed him: I think the application of that sort of thing in Europe is terrible.

We had two incidents where their players caught ours off the ball with swinging arms if kicking out in the way Maeda did is deemed a red they would have to be too? (I don’t think any of them were but applying the logic that the game isn’t being played or ball anywhere near them).

I thought the officiating was poor all night.

Kinda goes to show the old argument of foreign refs doesn't necessarily mean they would be any better

There equally as pish all around Europe

Happy to be corrected. I'm sure tho that I read, and watched a game of ours not so long ago where Maeda played thru the middle and bagged a couple of goals. Whether that was with Kyogo playing or not not sure tbh.
