    It's all about having options..

And being able to rotate players without a noticeable downgrade..

Maeda through the middle could work away in Europe for example.. but 90% domestically, against a low block, not a chance..

    Bang on.

Thrives on space to run into. Reason he scores 23 through the middle in Japan is evident from the highlights...massive pitches and terrible defences with gaps everywhere.

Did you also notice how many of those were headers lol? A bit harder in Scotland and in Europe with big physical centre backs.

If our big outlay is Barry I can see Maeda playing through the middle .
Barry , Jota, Kuhn, Yang , Forrest wide options.

He was the best striker in Japan before he signed here. If he could successfully play through the middle here and in Europe , with his pace , his value would go up massively and the club may see that side of it. He will be 28 end of next season prime selling age.

If Kyogo does leave and Jota comes in, is it in your mind perhaps to maybe play Daizen (Maeda) through the middle? It's obviously a role that he knows very well from the national team.

He can do that, but I would still want to bring in another striker. I think he can play there.

If you look at Daizen’s numbers, I'm not sure exactly what they are. But when he arrived here, he came in here with something like 23 goals in 30-odd games. So he's a different profile of striker.

But in the two games I've played him in as a striker, he's scored five goals as a striker. At Yokohama, he scored a hat-trick, and then earlier in the season against Hibs when Kyogo didn't play, he scored two goals and was a threat. So he will get goals. What's been really nice is to see the numbers that he's able to get off the side.

But I still think that we would need another striker. Definitely, we would want to bring in someone else

Maedas press is irreplaceable and I think he could be just as effective through the middle. Maybe need a midfielder to make runs ibto the box to support his press.

But defo need a striker in

Any word on how many games he's gonna be banned for?

Likely me ore than 1 game as think it was classed as violent conduct.

Would be a massive loss for play off game(s)

I think @Mr Shelby said it early with stats - behind Kuhn and Maeda, we have absolutely no one contributing on the wings.

Desperately need Jota in to compete with those two.

We also need to replace Kyogo after Jota jets in.

Just need to look at the last month. Having to rely on Yang and even worse occasionally have had to bring on Palma.

We have 2 quality wingers and not much else behind that outwith a 33 year old James Forrest.

    Jota is a superb addition

Maeda through the middle paralyzes teams who play from the back, so, yes. Might be even better if Idah or another player is beside Maeda, so they can cover the centre backs.

5 goals in 2 games as a striker! Didn't even play the whole games. Small sample size, but that's highly impressive!

Aye I'd like to see him play there just for the absolute joy of watching him harassing centre backs

Actually coming round to the idea of him through the middle. He’s at his best when it’s instinctive

Maeda is undroppable for me. Jota and Kuhn would be first choice on the wings but Maeda has to play so why would we not utilise him through the middle? He has played there before and has been prolific in Japan playing there.

He played a pre-season game once and scored a hat-trick in that also.

Mind when he first signed too we played Bodo/Glimt and we ended up with him up front with Kyogo or whoever might have been Giakoumakis and he scored against them as well.

He's scored for fun whenever he's played through the middle.

Personally I’d like to see Maeda stay out on the left and we get a new striker in. The problem we have at the moment is we don’t have anyone to come on with fresh legs to change the game or take a game away from the opposition.

My thoughts are we get a new striker in, then during a game at 60’-70’ we pull off Khun, switch Maeda over to terrorise the LB and Jota comes on to tear apart a tiring RB. If we subbed GG on at the same time then I could see Jota dropping pin point crosses on GG’s head.

That would be hard to live with at any level.

To be honest I think he has all the attributes to play through middle the way Brendan likes. Plays there for Japan, scored at the world cup. * straight he deserves a chance.

    Jota Daizen Khun.

    Oh my.

I don't think he's good enough on the ball or consistent enough finishing wise to play there.

And I don't think Rodgers does either tbh going off his comments.

We need our striker to ideally have a decent (consistent) first touch and good link up, as well as be as clinical as possible. Those were issues showing up more recently with Kyogo and I'd say Maeda has the same.

Also, he's got 14 from the wing. I'd argue, why would we want to move him to the middle? The whole reason of buying Jota back is to provide depth and quality out wide. Moving him into the middle permanently just leaves us with the same problem.

Regardless, it's quite evident that Rodgers is going to sign another striker anyway.

But what about all the times we are up against a low block and need it to be more than just instinctive?

He thrives on space to run into, for me. Will get more of that out wide.
