I think the Kyogo fee makes sense if we're committed to selling him. It's not a bad price at all for a 30 year old. I just think it's wild that we're happy to essentially give Rennes the money they paid for Jota in the first place when he's barely played for them. Hopefully we get the same Jota we know back and then nobody will care about the fee.

It's not mental IMHO. The Kyogo deal is done now. At his age, this is his last big move. In contrast, Jota (or Yoto I guess we have to call him now ha ha) is only 25. If Rennes are aware that we could plausibly get £20 million for Jota in 2 years (and they will be), that will affect their asking price.

I’m going to * miss him.

But I can’t help but feel he’s moving on at the right time as well.

It's mental as they bought him for €8m in the summer, hasn't kicked a ball and we're buying him for €10m plus a sell on fee.

In a different deal we're selling Kyogo to Jota's current club for near enough the same amount of money.

Two different deals which are near enough the same. It's a player trade but isn't.

    It's mental.

I've been burying my head in the sand about this. Are we swapping Kyogo for Jota?

    Im seriously unhappy about this.

    Something * stinks imo.

Why the * would Kyogo want to leave Celtic, give up CL football, to go to a relegation threatened side where the manager has been acting like an * in the media, and play in front of half the fans he gets here.

If it was a mid table team in Spain id understand. Or even a low mid epl side.

But * Rennes? This is move that a 22 year old makes, who wants to prove himself in a better league to get another, bigger move.

This isn't the move of a 30 year old striker, adored by the fans and almost guaranteed cult hero status.

Its made the Jota return very, very bittersweet for me.

Just cant shake the feeling theres something else going on with Kyogo, where we wants out the door asap, and doesn't care where he goes.

Surely we must have a replacement for Kyogo…..or are we going with Idah and Johnny Kenny??

Think there may be a bit of clever wording going on here. I can't see us matching the kyogo fee. My guess is the deal for kyogo is in region of 10mill pounds all in and jota is going other way 8mill pounds all in with a sell on of which we prob will pay in the region of 6-6.5 up front.. defo should be getting some decent change from this "swap"

It looks mental if you look at it like that, but that's only seeing half the picture.
Look at it this way, if Kyogo were 25, he'd be going for more like £20 million rather than 10 and we all know why. Well, the same applies to them for Jota.

We've seen with Engels what £10-11 million gets you these days: potential. We all know that Jota has potential and we're paying for that. If he had reached his potential already, he'd also be more like £20 million rather than £10.

I don't know what to say, mate. The fees make perfect sense to me.

Reckon maeda will feature lot more through the middle
. I'm opposite to a lot on here I don't think we will bring in another winger on top of jota. But we could bring in a striker who can play winger like a kvistgaarden

Same, im a big fan of him but I feel like we don't get the best out of him anyway so we don't really need him.

Although if Jota was rejoining and he was staying then it would be more exciting.

I feel with Maeda and Kuhn wide we don't get a lot of good service into the striker, mostly because Maeda plays basic balls with no direction and Kuhn always cuts inside and rarely puts many balls in then that wee cut in and layoff he does to Johnston to put a ball in Johnston just leathers it off the guy in front of him 9 times out of 10.

With Jota back we get that unpredictability and early quicker and better quality final ball into the box as he can cross or pass on either foot that we never get from Maeda and Kuhn.

its a good move for him financial wise. Best player i've seen since Larsson. It hurts a little to see him go but overall i'm happy. thanks for the memories Kyogo, one that I shant forget is the first time I saw him and he scored a hattrick.
I'm confident we will replace him with someone of similar pace, possibly even improve on things. Fact is he needs replacing with someone 10m plus.

Same im actually really happy with Maeda being a striker, he is a striker really all his goals are like poacher type goals and headers and getting onto loose balls and he can press like * from the front as the striker.

If Jota is a done deal, it's possible the immediate replacement is Maeda with Jota at LW. Still need a striker, but the Jota deal makes it a less urgent priority.

Daizen won't play through the middle for us, he's so much better out on the left. He's not someone I'd describe as a natural finisher either.

Kyogo isn't a natural finisher either. Maeda lacks the creativity to create his own chances from the wing. I'd argue he's at his best when playing as close to the goal as possible.

For me, one of his most iconic moments was this season. Sprinting back the full length of the pitch to help stop a break. Never seen that from a striker before.

Funny that Maeda's stats from the wing this season suggest otherwise.
