It needs more pace and power..

    McGregor
    McCowan
    Bernardo
    Hatate

There's a lot of grafting in there but there isn't much pace. Seen all 3 getting breezed by a few times lately..

It's time Hatate moved on. So as well as pace and power, we need more creativity in there also..

    Been saying it for years.

It's still an issue. I had a thread similar to this. Can't believe we haven't addressed it.

Bernardo was absolutely gash tonight. I would start with McGregor, Engels and McCowan at the weekend.

There doesn't seem to be a balance, no matter who is playing.
We are missing O'Riley more than I thought we would.
We don't have that 'silky' influence in any of the options, and there seems to be too many like for like players just now.

We seen it against Dortmund, we seen it against the huns in both games and we've seen it again tonight, our midfield offers zero protection to our defence.

I like every midfielder we have, but none of them are good tracking back, and that's a big worry.

CDM has been a priority for us for years now, yet Lennon, Ange and Rodgers x2 have ignored it each time.

No defensive protection. No real pace and power. Very little creativity.

    Incredible

I said it in the match thread, we've conceded 3 goals on four occasions when teams got at as the past 7 or 8 months. The sheep semi, the huns twice and Dundee. The cup final wan't exactly convincing either.

Bernardo was horrendous but mcgregor gets a by ball and plays 90 mins every game and hasn't contributed much on the pitch at all lately

They're just all a bit similar, all work hard and are tidy in that 6/8 role, but if it's not working it's hard to change the game.
There's no proper physical number six and no really creative number ten

No Scott Brown there anymore. We've never replaced him effectively, admittedly not an easy task.
McGregor running on empty again. This should be his swansong year.

I'm a bit * off with our midfield.

Our squad in general, nobody has came in and actually made a case for the jersey.

    * mental considering how deep our squad is.

The most obvious thing is just how much we miss O'Riley. Nothing we can do about it but his departure has left a chasm in the team.

On paper its strong and its more than good enough for SPL.

But I think Hatate and McGregor are regressing while Engles is far from the finished article.

Bernardo is slightly unreliable for me. Prone to drifting out of games and get the impression Rodgers feels the same which is why he doesnt get more starts.

Hatate potentially should be sold and replaced by a more physically imposing midfielder to add some bite to the midfield.

    The sports scientist told him

Joking aside we need to rotate CalMc as well as the other midfielders. We have the resources to pick and chose whem to unlesh a prime McGregor.

I fear for KT if Brendan hasnt taken note

I don't think this packed fixture schedule is helping at all with the team selection. Playing every 3 or 4 days and having to rotate players to keep them fresh for key games is always going to be difficult. I honestly think we made a mistake selling Iwata as for me he was the only one who looked a natural defensive player and should have been providing cover for McGregor this season. That point aside, I don't think Rodgers knows who to start in his strongest XI. My guess is he sees it as McGregor, Engels and Hatate but inconsistent performances all round aren't helping.

Said in the transfer thread but Mulligan for Dundee is the type of midfielder I want.

Not him, but that mould. Powerful, strong runner with the ball and won't be easily bullied. We don't really have anyone like that.

Bernardo has shown it at times but wouldn't say that's his game. Whenever a side is aggressive or faster than us in the middle of the park we struggle...couldn't get hold of a second ball tonight for large spells. Its a problem if we want to progress in Europe too season after season as most European teams aren't just about technique now but also pace and physicality. Gone are the days when they'd always comment on OUR strong point being our physicality.
Mcgregor is being asked to do too much in that role.

Think McGregor is the elephant in the room here.

I'd love to see him rotated much more. It's incredibly annoying to know that he'll play every single game and the full 90 minutes regardless of form. He isn't Messi or Ronaldo to have those privileges.

Need to be less sentimental and start having serious conversations about his role moving forward. That doesn't mean he's entirely to blame btw. I don't think any of our midfielders have been consistent this season which feels crazy to say. I've been disappointed with all of them.

We badly miss O'Riley and badly need to reshuffle the pack in the Summer, starting with Hatate. Get a fast, powerful midfielder for Christ's sake and a CDM who knows how to protect the backline.

Been saying it for ages, this Midfield just isn't working. Doesn't score enough goals and doesn't protect the defence.

Hatate has chucked it for me, be seriously looking to offload him this window

Bernardo is way too inconsistent and one paced and doesn't score enough or contribute to goals

Calmac is on the slide, ran into the ground like we did Broony.

Luke is tidy but seems to run out of steam..

Engels has been poor too most of the season after a bright start...

We are playing with two wingers that are good enough all season..

Midfield needs shaken up drastically. If the battering the midfield took off the huns wasn't a sign I don't know what will be
