Maik Nawrocki

Oxford United are keen on a deal for Celtic’s Maik Nawrocki.

The English Championship outfit want to land the Polish defender on-loan. The U’s scouting team after alerted manager Gary Rowett to the 23-year-old. Oxford want to strengthen their defence in their bid to help their survival bid. He is keen to see if a deal can be done with the Hoops. Nawrocki is well down the pecking order. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales are all in front of Nawrocki



Celtic have just let Stephen Welsh move to KV Mechelen on loan. It remains to be seen if Brendan Rodgers wants to keep him for cover, although Dane Murray has been recalled from his loan at Queen’s Park. Nawrocki moved to Celtic from Legia Warsaw in 2023 but has never really made a regular first-team slot his own

 

Let him go, I'm fine with Murray being 4th choice.

CB needs brought in during the summer window.

 

From Paradise to Oxford lol. What a shock that'll be should it happen.

 

Be happy enough to let him go.

Not a terrible player, can see something in him, but also see not enough in him.

Rather he was moved on and space freed to now sign another CB that can truly compete with trusty and CCV. With Scales as great backup and rotation, where we don't then see a big drop off and can actually rotate the pairing often.

It's a weird one he was seemingly highly rated by Legia when we signed him and I don't think he's been bad on the rare occasions he's actually played but seems to have been totally bombed out

 

Surely one of him or Palma needs to be a permanent sale as we don’t have loan spades unless Tilio, Lagerbielke or Kwon are coming back?

In addition, to those three there is Welsh and Holm so only one space left.

 

If it's perm, maybe understandable.

But then, what are they realistically paying for him?

Surprised Legia wouldn't want to come back to him, or his stock decent enough for an Austrian or lower German side.

Got to be able to get a better move.

 

Legia did but were offering pennies compared to what we paid.

 

A forgotten man. Don't know what the issue is but he's clearly not doing enough to warrant inclusion, so best to let him go.

 

What's the chances Oxford are paying anything better though? Which makes me think it must be a loan - but then why don't Legia offer a loan back?

Just had a weird time here

 

Legia offered us about £1.2m to take him back in the summer and we declined. They also tried to take him on loan but the player said no.

I am not entirely sure of the loan rules but I don’t think we have a space for another if Palma is a loan to buy, being honest if Rayo Vallecano are only going to pay £2.1m to buy him I can only assume there is a decent loan fee guaranteed or we should be saying no loan you need to buy him. It makes no sense, loaning with such a low option, if he goes there and does well they will do a Hendry on us buy him and sell him. Especially when we are meant to have so much interest in him.

Back on Nawrocki I think we can only sell him if we loan Palma unless we are sorting something out for Tilio or Kwon to come back. Lagerbielke started today for Twente so you would assume he is staying there.

 

I agree with that with Trusty and Scales we are fine on the left side. Hopefully Nawrocki gets a good loan and does well so we can sell him and bring in a new right sided center back to push CCV and I would say keep Dane Murray and sell Welsh in the summer as well if possible.
