Just think he wants to be home @Liam Scales . And I don't mean Celtic.

I've travelled and lived abroad a fair few times. It's certainly got it's appeal and I've sometimes thought I'd settle in the countries I stayed in, but here I am living in Scotland :39:.

Think he's just coming back to where he wants to be personally after making his money, nothing really to do with Rodgers, or even Celtic. He's not daft though, he'll get a bit more money whilst here, and why not?

Definitely that’s a thing for him, he said he missed being home when he was in London a good few times. But when he went to Spain he also * loved the culture, lifestyle and was open about how much he was surprised how quickly he settled in over there. It’s a mixture of things that makes the deal possible, being close to his family and friends, the injuries stalling his career and won’t get a massive move to a bigger club now and the fact that he does * love Celtic. And we won’t pay * exactly, even if nowhere near what he’s earned recently, but that money won’t be on the table for him to consider talking to us either. We probably are financially more attractive than deals he could get, unless he looks at Saudi Arabia.

And I imagine my grudge for Rodgers with Tierney is much bigger than Tierneys one as well, he’ll have the fact he chose to play as well, and Rodgers was the manager that brought him on enough to have a life changing contract at a club like Arsenal. Because he did develop him majorly as well. He probably is fond of him. I’ve got the chip on the shoulder that I think he should have :56:

We do that to a ton of kids every year. It's called the youth and development squads.

Putting aside my feelings on Rodgers (and Lennon's as you pointed out) handling of him Tierney is undoubtedly one of our most fortunate.

    * I wish we got players at that high level of play in the droves for us to overplay them, knowing they always will * quality die hards for the club. But in my memory it’s a club exclusive to Tierney, Calmac and McStay. Like I said though, Calmac’s a freak of nature really.

He done the same to Rogic at that time as well though, and then he was out the ten season. Fit again under Ange.

I probably should let it go a bit but that was my resentment about when he left, never that he left, I had no issue with that. Just that he was definitely a foot out the door after the summer window, and in that time between them (and the board bot backing him, and his options limited as well yes) I think he knowingly ignored the damage that can be caused, and that as well is because how much I rate his ability and thoroughness, i don’t think he was unaware, just didn’t care.

I more meant * their career than being overplayed. Probably wished they'd been overplayed:56:.

Think we are in the same place on Rodgers treatment of Tierney. I do think Rodgers recognises it, but him bringing Tierney back if it goes wrong/badly is just going to make me struggle more with Rodgers as it feels like utter self-indulgence

Ahh some who got 10 minute cameos from our youths were probably overplayed, in the wrong completely different way than we’re meaning here to be fair:56:

We largely are in agreement, except the self-indulgent bit, it’s the fact he’s actually world class and he’ll hope to use him in a way he can have him available for the games we need that quality.

Made the comparison with CCV last two seasons and how few games he played, and just how much everyone thought if that’s what we get from him still rather he’s her rather than not. And Rodgers this season has used him in a way that we get more than that amount out of him (touch wood but has been so far even though he has been out)

If we can get 30-40 games a year from Tierney, 40 being the absolute limit and hopeful from me as well, he’s that good a player, that high quality, we’ll be happy with that as well.

But that’s optimistic from me as well, could easily be 4 a season. It’s a gamble yes, but really not a major one for potential rewards. And that for me makes me alright with it more than anything, it’s a gamble against potential high reward or slightly less interest in our accounts, covered by Bernabei’s fee

Biggest issue for me is if it goes wrong it puts us back 2+ years in squad development. Rodgers pursuit has already put us back a year for sorting LB, so I do see it as self-indulgent on his part. * his first window as he was trying to make it happen. That's potentially going to cost us CL and other money and put the clubs development back the same amount of more.

For the time it's taken and money we'll pay in wages we really could have addressed the position so much more positively.

I actually would prefer we promoted or used the 2 development players regardless of Tierneys class, which I don't dispute. That would be starting to address a real weakness in our club running thats higher up my priorities.

    * we’re already behind that development squad wise at left back by 3/4 years anyway. It hasn’t done much harm either.

He wanted Owen Beck, really wanted him, a late sub for Liverpool in a Cup game * that move. And his loan back to Dundee he had a few embarrassments, I’m fine with the potential rewards of Tierney for even 50% of games a season over signing an Owen Beck or that.

And adding onto the other conversation we’re having in a different thread, if we nail down Taylor on a new deal, signing Tierney makes me much happier. Because I’m fine knowing Taylor can come in as well, and do what he’s done for the last 3.5 seasons as well. If it’s just Tierney and Ralston back up LB as well as RB like we’ve seen before him being that with Taylor first choice. I’ll not be that happy.

Tierney only ever even got a chance because izaguirre was * and we had no other fit options. We won’t know until it happens obviously but frame/anderson/someone we haven’t seen yet could appear from nowhere like that! Footballs a weird game and the talk at the time was Tierney wasn’t great in the youths but the minute he stepped onto the pitch in the full * game he was a different player altogether.

I actually think Tierney coming could help develop the youth in that position if he isn’t due to play every game. At some point we need to start blooding players through or no youth will ever want to stay with us

I absolutely take on board every single point that you make: our youth squad development is an embarrassment, a bit of a badge of shame in recent years in my eyes.

And yes, Rodgers of course plays a part in that.

What I don’t think plays a part in that, is signing a player who is one of the best left sided defenders in the whole of Britain, in every aspect to his game… an opportunity to sign someone of his quality doesn’t come around too often and I still believe we are right to bite Arsenal’s hand off for him.

Sure. I am hopefully dead wrong and this is a great opportunity and Tierney will play every game without any injuries for years to come but I'm far from seeing that being likely. Pretty much everyone can see bumps in the road on this one, I'm obviously juast at a different end of the spectrum on this from most on the trade offs.

It's looking like we will start to find out shortly. Won't be dull either way.

Should close this thread down. It’s disrespectful to Greg Taylor to have ex-players who we like.

I would take Tierney back in a heartbeat. Honestly can't understand anyone who would have an issue with it.

For him to take a massive wage cut to come back to us still in his prime would be an absolute honor.

Fair play he has his injury issues. But if we can keep GT as a backup and get another project that would be ideal.

And he'll be a major asset to the dressing room.
