The picture of him clearly trying not to laugh talking to Ronaldo is * hysterical.

I like him, he left us trusting in his ability and that he’d work to make the most of it, and not disappear like many others who have made similar moves and thought they’d made it then.

    * i wish he did stay, Ange of all people bent over backwards to show that he should, a man who famously had the attitude you either want to be here 100% or he’s not interested in you. Didn’t do that approach with this boy, and we lost out in the end. And honestly I want him to prove he done the right move, it’s somehow more disappointing for us to lose him and him be a failure. The young guys * bold but, I like it

Ipswich Town have had an offer worth £16million for Ben Doak rejected by Liverpool.

Liverpool’s latest rebuttal comes after Crystal Palace had a £15m bid turned down for the Scotland forward earlier on Friday.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, where he has helped Michael Carrick’s side into play-off contention with two goals in 20 Championship appearances since joining in the summer.

The Anfield club are pleased with Doak’s progress at the Riverside Stadium, where he is scheduled to remain until the end of the season and their preference is for him to see out the 2024-25 campaign with Middlesbrough unless the proposals on offer improve.

Liverpool believe Doak to be the best young player in the Championship and would consider signing themselves if they didn’t already own him.

Ipswich are expected to continue their pursuit of the teenager with attacking reinforcements a key priority for the club as they seek to pull clear of the relegation zone and avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

The Portman Road club came close to signing Wilson Odobert and Jaden Philogene in the summer before both wingers joined Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa respectively.

Doak spent his formative footballing years in Scottish football before joining Liverpool from Celtic in 2022.

He made his debut for the club in an Carabao Cup tie with Derby County in November of that year before making his first Premier League appearance against Aston Villa a month later.

Doak has made 10 appearances in all for Liverpool and missed most of the 2023-24 season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

He made his international debut for Scotland earlier this year and has been capped six times.

Might be just me being stupid but is there a legal age we can’t play players under? I know he played for us at 16, but is it actually possible/allowed to play earlier than that now? Can only think of other 16 year olds that have played in the league

We did, he played in two absolutely crucial league games pretty much straight after turning 16.

If he's playing in what were essentially league deciders (one against Rangers to go top of the league for the first time that season) straight after he turned 16 and still refusing to sign a pro contract I'm not sure what else you can expect from the club.

It was pretty clear after that he had no intention of staying so there was never a chance to give him a 'proper run'.

We did/were about to give him a shot. He played in a Glasgow Derby at 16 ffs.

He's not like someone who say in the unders for 2 years too long waiting for a chance.

Only good thing is under Uefa solidarity payments we will be due a decenf cut of that maybe 3% or 4% of any fee as he is under 23. So if goes for £30m we might get around £1m

He was never staying when Liverpool were interested. One of the biggest teams in the world, playing in one of the 2 biggest leagues in the world. Plus, financially they would blow us out the water.

Still a sore one, can’t remember another 16 year old we’ve played against the Huns. Thought he was gonna be the real deal, just didn’t realise not with us so soon! Haha

Liverpool have informed Ben Doak that he is not in their long-term plans as transfer interest in the youngster gathers pace.

The Reds have turned down two bids for Doak, after both Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town firmed up interest in the 19-year-old.

But despite Liverpool rejecting bids of £15m and £16m respectively, Rousing The Kop understands that the Reds are open to a January sale.

RTK have been informed that Arne Slot does not see Doak as part of his long-term Liverpool squad and has relayed that to the Scotland international.

As a result, it’s understood that Doak is currently assessing his options for a mid-season exit

Doak has been having an excellent season on-loan in the Championship with Middlesbrough, scoring two goals and registering five assists in 20 games.

And RTK understands that while Boro are desperate to keep hold of Doak in whatever way they can, they are not currently in the running for a permanent transfer.

It’s understood that Boro could be a more realistic option for Doak should they get promoted to the Premier League this season

In the meantime, RTK have been informed that Crystal Palace are the most serious contender at this stage having tabled an initial £15m offer.

And although that bid fell short of Liverpool’s valuation, it is understood that a second offer of £25m is likely to be enough to tempt the Reds.

RTK understands that Palace are far from the only club interested in Doak, however, with Ipswich and a number of other top division clubs monitoring the situation.

It’s understood that Doak staying at Boro has also not been ruled out, although at present a permanent sale is looking the more likely scenario.

Doak has certainly been one of the most eye-catching players in the Championship this season.

Following his good form for Boro the teenager bagged himself the division’s Young Player of the Month award for December.

The former Celtic prospect is still some way from the top of the assisting charts in the Championship, though, with West Brom’s Tom Fellows way out in the lead with 10.
