I remember when I was very young I could distinguish between whats cool and whats not. That's why we don't like the mainstream music because its pure manufactured. People say ''oh youre just being edgy or whatever'' but we see manufactured media everywhere, its so easy to distinguish between proper comedy and canned laughter. Then again atleast they are trying and I think alot of bad comedians and writers know how * they are and are struggling through it possibly. Kevin Bridges is around the same age as me and his comedy just resonates every time. Hes a proper comedian

I’ve always been the opposite and thought whatever you enjoy, you enjoy, whether it’s niche, the most popular, manufactured or raw and underground.

Far too many friends of mines, not so much now we’re older but growing up, would love a band or artist until other people did and would get snobby about it when others picked up on it.

Likes and preferences, whether humour or musical or whatever are subjective. Life was much better when I embraced that, I can remember at 14 refusing to listen to Nirvana because ‘they’re mad goths and that’. * turned out to have some class stuff I love.

Yea can understand that but the fact that people enjoy overly animated comedy, while being subjective also indicates to me that they might have a dim sense of humour. Yes music is subjective and everyones got a right to enjoy what they like but lets be honest, the media that they pump out to the masses is complete *. Take for example, Saturday night Live, pure trash comedy.

Comedy’s subjective as well, comedian wise one of the funniest * I’ll die on the hill of being sheer genius is Mitch Hedberg, I’ve had mates very similar humour to me just don’t find it funny. SNL similar, mostly find horrendous, but my mate showed a compilation of some of the best bits (from the last 15 years or so not at it’s height) and some of it is amazing, the news with Michael Che and… can’t mind the guy, Scajo’s man, writing for each other gets me majorly:56:

But there was a time when I was younger I’d not have entertained watching anything I deemed manufactured pish, after seeing a bit of something like SNL and deciding it. I * despise Limmy and everycunt in my mate group finds him hilarious, and despite me hating him, I’ve seen some of his stuff that’s excellent. Mostly him slating the Orange Order tbf:56:

Can remember seeing Dave Grohl talking about things he should find cool and thinking * it, after he got caught from his hotel balcony going tonto for a Britney Speirs song. That’s cool for me. Some of the ‘manufactured’ * is enjoyable as *, it’s why it’s popular. Might be designed that way but no point dismissing * you will like just because you feel you shouldn’t. I have this convo with my cousin anytime we get a drink btw, it’s a pet peeve of mine :56::56:

One of my things is that I reckon I understand how media is used to dumb people down. Or at least I believe that is getting more obvious to me that the music industry is quite * up. Could be called a conspiracy if you like but its something I feel certain ways about. I'm someone who appreciates art aswell.

I’m more pessimistic than it being a thing to dumb people down intentionally, it’s more most people that would consume bullshit and the lowest common denominator to generate money from are * stupid. It’s how I explain away the likes of The Sun and Daily Mail being that popular when papers were more a big thing.

It’s swinging away from that media wise though, streaming services and people choosing what they’re consuming has gave a rise in quality series, good writing. Spotify as much as it damages the industry, people choose what they listen to, radios used to choose what you hear unless you go out your way to buy an album or that.

Love these sort of conversations mate, totally understand where you’re coming from and agree to an extent but agree from the opposite direction :56:

Jermaine Jenas, and see he's been sacked from BBC today. Wonder what he's been up to.

On music, the whole "manufactured" thing is a bit silly given there are so many genres that are considered non-manufactured yet have very strict themes, politics, fashions, attached to them. Non conformist music usually had the strictest dress codes! But then it's also usually the best music so that's fine.

My wife watches that celebs go dating. The hairdresser guy from gogglebox is absolutely awful. A total * pest and if a guy his age was acting like this towards younger women there would be uproar. Can’t understand how his behaviour is considered acceptable.
