Have so much to say but its all fluff. All that matters it that everyone knows I love Kasper Schmeichel. All I can think of is how much work and commitment he's put in with the support of those who want to see him be as good as possible. The end product is a great professional and someone who knows how to play his position to the fine detail. Dare I say Henrik had similar qualities

You can never overstate the importance of having a top quality GK, fair to say Kasper is a level above big Joe, a cracking signing would be great if he stayed for another season.

So true. And having just watched Spurs Man U game, just goes to highlight importance of a quality keeper. If either side had Kasper in goal, a lot of those goals dont get conceded.

Kasper Schmeichel has revealed a hidden detail in how he signed for Celtic.

The Hoops No. 1 was jetting out for a family holiday after the Euros when a texting exchange with Brendan Rodgers turned into the Parkhead boss wanting ten minutes of his former Leicester City goalkeepers time for a blether. Within that chat everything was agreed on becoming Joe Hart's successor but with the way football is these days with the multiple international tournaments on top of everything else, the veteran was ready for some down time after Denmark's elimination from Euro 2024 in Germany

But rather than come to Glasgow, Rodgers told the 38-year-old it was important he got away with the family for some down time and he ended up doing his Celtic medical in Italy before signing his contract in an Italian restaurant. Speaking on the Fozcast - former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster's podcast - he said: "We went out of the Euros against Germany and I kind of took a couple of days to just decompress and process that whole experience

I had a text exchange with Brendan which we have done a lot of times since I have left Leicester. You know, it was nothing really specific or anything like that. I was going on holiday with my family and a couple of hours before we left for the airport, Brendan text me and asked 'do you have 10 minutes for a chat' he asked me my plans and what was going on and we basically agreed everything within 10 minutes.

He added: "The Euros finished and I think I ended up having 12 days holiday. That is more than the last three or four years combined. Brendan kind of said it is important you go on holiday. We will sort this remotely. We figured out a doctor and everything in Italy to do the scans and medical. I signed sitting in an Italian restaurant and signed the contract. It was a good day

The gold fishbowl is something that can swallow up players who just arrive in Scotland. It is a place like no other when it comes to football. But Kasper insists his interactions with Rangers fans have been respectful and with banter, which he reckons is a nice touch. Generally, he has been pleasantly surprised at life in Glasgow

He said: "It's a great place. I have been so positively surprised. It is a really great place to live. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The people are nice and everyone has welcomed me. Even when I have met Rangers fans they've not been necessarily nice but always been respectful and had a bit of banter and I think that is a great way of doing it. I am really enjoying it.

Kasper Schmeichel will open contract talks with Celtic in the new year.

The keeper confirmed that a new deal will be looked at when speaking in his homeland to Danish news organisation Bold.

The 38-year-old currently has a deal with Brendan Rodgers' side until the summer but his excellent form means the Scottish Champions will surely be keen to keep him in the building.

And while Schmeichel is open to discussions, he's focused on the games ahead with a potential treble and Champions League qualification on the line.

He told Bold.dk: "It's something we'll sit down and talk about at some point in the new year. For now, I'm not thinking that far ahead. My focus is on the things that are happening here and now. There's always something big happening at a big club like Celtic.

We have already won a cup final, we lead the league with great and entertaining football and an incredibly solid defence, which I am especially happy about. And we are in a good position in the Champions League after only one defeat in six games. It would be a great achievement to advance.

“Signing there felt like coming home football-wise. But one of the most important things for me is also to feel the approach to sport and football - to feel the mentality when it comes to how important it is to win. It's a special culture at British clubs that I grew up with, so that's why it suits me well

Furthermore, the atmosphere around the matches is unique. There is nothing like a full stadium in the UK, and ours is in a class of its own. There are 60,000 every time. It's a wild experience.

"Living in Glasgow and playing for Celtic is fantastic because you really feel that football means a lot to a lot of people. Everyone has a relationship and an attitude towards football. It's a gift to play football in such passionate surroundings.”

Schmeichel has been in top form during a year that has gone exceedingly well for him. From the Euros where he captained his country to winning a 100th cap, the big keeper has had a banner 2024.

He said: “When I look back at all the highlights of 2024, it almost looks like a wishlist I could have written a year ago. Personally, I feel that I have played my best year ever, in that it is my most complete year in terms of football and how I have performed.

“I feel at my best, I'm constantly developing and I have a huge appetite to play football and win. Most importantly, there have been lots of highlights with my clubs and national team. I was enormously proud to be the Denmark captain during the European Championship. It was a personal highlight of my career for me. I also reached 100 international caps in 2024. Now I'm at 111, and I'm incredibly proud of that

Hopefully stays on for another year. He has been superb. Crucial to the way we play as well.

Could possibly go on longer when you look at Craig Gordon still going strong at Hearts this season.

Would like to see Sinisalo in a few games before the end of the season to see if he's going to be able to take over when Schmeichel does retire.

It is a fair point tbh. Remember seeing villa fans being upset at his leaving so must be something there, worryingly he’s not been given any game time unless I’ve missed something ?? If he’s not up to it I’d like to see Pickford here, but he’s got at least one more move in him before he would come to us.

I think apart from Falkirk we've played entirely top flight teams. Hopefully he gets a cup game or 2 and then some split games

Think he’s 22/23 ish…should have had his face shown by now if they thought something of the lad. If Kasper gets an injury who’s the bloke to step in..? I can’t tell you what he’s like, that’s the problem imho.

I know we have Sinisalo waiting on the wings, who is regarded as a really talanted young keeper, but I'd be trying to keep Schmeichel for another 2 years at least, with the idea of him taking over from Schmeichel in the third season.

He really is a top, top keeper, and you look at the keepers that are first choice for the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United and he would easily, and I mean easily, start for both currently.
