If he’s fit (yes, big “if”), the pace out wide with KT/Maeda and Johnston/Kuhn would be silly.

    I'd still take a chance.

If wages are su substatially reduced, basically say he's a low basic wage when injured and a decent wage when fit to play.

If he doesn't want to accept then fair enough.

Lawell? That you? Just ge the boy a wage. He earned us £25m and he'll earn us more in champions league qualification. What's a few grand?

Or don’t give him any wages at all because he’s an utter crock and put our hands in our pockets and go get a proper, attack minded left back who’s not going to be out injured for 30 games a season.

Surely, going out and spending money on a left back, which I’m advocating for, is the opposite of being a Lawwell?

Everyone in here wanting to sign him for free are more Lawwell than me

I want him signed because he's the best left back we can get. Plus I want us to also go out and spend a load on another quality left back. One left backs can't play the number of games we have so why not have 2 top quality guys?

Because it’s very unlikely a club in our position is going to have 2 top quality players in any position. I don’t think we have that anywhere else in the team. We clearly have quality players but there’s a drop off at the moment.

    Johnstone to Ralston
    CCV to Scales/Trusty
    Kuhn to Forrest/Yang
    Maeda to Palma
Kyogo to Idah(Less so this season)

What we should have is a player of the class of Johnstone, who can come in and make an immediate impact and to sign someone else, like Valle, who’s still young enough to develop and become better.

There are left backs out there that can be signed who would be perfect for us. Teams in the Premier League/Championship have been signing guys for quite cheap who are in their team. Sheffield United signed the boy Burrows we were linked with for £6m, he’s going to be playing in Premier League by the looks of it next season. Burnley have loaned in a young man from Chelsea at left back, who’s been excellent and unlikely to be anywhere near the Chelsea team. Into the Premier League, Bournemouth signed Kerkerez from AZ for £14m, probably out of our budget but not like he cost them a * fortune.

There are players out there who we don’t need to take ridiculous amounts of risk with.

Yet all those named, when Tierney is playing is better than them all. Thats why if happily take him and then buy a young guy to bring on with potential.

It’s debatable whether or not he’s better than Kerkerez. Remember, Tierney is currently fit and an 18 year old left back who’s never seen the first team is keeping him out of the team, when they have 5 left back options OUT(Calafiori, Zinchenko, Kiwor, Timber, Tomiyasu)… so we actually don’t know what sort of player we would be getting, given his injury record could actually have a longer term impact on his ability to play. Arteta has only played him in a cup game, when he’s clearly prioritising the league.

But let’s give you that. Let’s give you the argument that he’s better. It averages out that he misses about 30 games a season.. so, is he really better when he’s absolutely not reliable: is he a reliable football option to have at left back, spending a bucket load on wages to have for half a season, on average?

He’s not massively better where he’s going to completely change the fortunes of the team. No left back would. We could sign prime Jordi Alba, it’s not like he’s going to win us the Champions League. Would he have changed the result of the Cup Final or some of the Champions League games(Zagreb/Brugges)? I don’t think so. We maybe wouldn’t have been battered 7-0 by Dortmund.

People are far too emotional about signing Kieran Tierney and they can’t see the woods for the trees. Absolutely crazy to be even considering him, especially with his injury record. What’s scarier is seeing the same posters in the Balikiwisha thread, who are against signing him because of his injury record, doing a complete 180 in the Kieran Tierney thread and advocating for us signing someone with an even worse injury record.

We shouldn’t be entertaining it. Ever.

It's a good argument. However, I'm still aboard the sign Tierney train :56:

And you’ll be one of the first to lambast the club for playing a back up left back, away to Real Madrid in the Champions League next season and away to the Zombies at Ibrox, when Tierney is out for the first 3 months of the season.

Tierney signing has to go hand in hand with a quality young player that'll develop with the game time he'll get. So if the new left back is playing, then no reason to be mad. Even if we don't sign Tierney, we still need 2 left backs. We have none.

KT is supposedly a free. We need 2 left backs anyway as Taylor isn’t signing and Valle is off back to Barca.

We sign KT and a player we’ve hopefully been scouting since we knew Taylor wasn’t a surity to sign on. It shouldn’t be one or the other

Then sign 2 left backs, both of whom aren’t injury prone to *.
