I respect what you’re saying in regards to the legends but it’s an “old head” opinion.

Kendricks also really the only rapper(emcee) from this era that I’d have on the same pedestal as Nas etc. He embodies what hip hop is about, and I don’t get why you can’t see that just because he’s not Nas or Tupac, when he’s literally this generations version of both of them.

 

‘The Blacker The Berry’ is one of the greatest rap songs I’ve ever heard,was a good album that it was on but that song was powerful.It made me proud to be black tbh and I’m a wee skinny dying white * from Rocabarraigh.It’s like reading Malcom X’s autobiography on coke.

Its just frequencies that I like. Melodies prompt it but lyrics build the story afterwards. You can master the melody but lyrics can open up alot of exposure to elements. Really its a drug.



I listen to these drugs everyday.

 

Lyrics are conscious, melody is sub conscious. Sometimes they get mixed up but awareness is important.

@Doogs. i am fully aware that I can be an ignoramous at times. We do tend to take things on face value and in that respect I don’t like his gremlin voice and attitude. Maybe I should give it more of a listen today, why not.

 

Kendrick was this generations Tupac before dissing Drake. Dissing Drake was like a side hustle for him, a bit of fun. Don’t think it was career defining or trying to win people over.

The range he has and his storytelling is 2nd to none. Different flows, changes in tone as a story progresses, even songs like Not Like Us where he’s just having fun. There’s nobody else that can do what he does at such a high level across the board.

 

MF DOOM is my personal favourite and i'm sticking to it. Guy was levels above anyone and by that i mean no lyrical comparison necessarily but more about how your mind reacts to, or tries to figure it out. Listening to DOOM has cause some eureka situations for me and there are layers and depth to it plus elements of humour too. Its all about how it makes you feel. Comparing art is bs, but I think all the elements are there that makes his art interest me alot more then Kendrick.
Theres no buzz for me from dissing rnb pop stars though and its a bad introduction for me from him. I understand people have the complete opposite view though.

 

DOOM is amazing but a lot of his lyrics are gibberish. Same with Ghostface Killah.

2 of the best ever but they both admittedit of their lyrics are gibberish to sound good, more so GFK.

 

No way man not having that, Ghostface has style and cadence and can listen to his lyrics all day but its not gibberish. MC's from the day can switch topics often and leave the listener confused its just a different way of writing and arguably takes alot more skill to capture whats intended or create something special. Alot of older heads when they first heard Nas that set a standard. You had to flow and those emcees reached the heart and soul of people not with their lyrical content but with how they use words and how people responded thats poetry basically and theres more substance to finding hidden meanings in your life then there is to accusing ppl of being a paedo in my opinion.

The art is lost and the craft is forgotten

 

It’s straight from the horses mouth. Ghostface has repeatedly said a lot of his rhymes are just nonsense that sounds good. Same with DOOM although his rhymes are a lot more dense with obscure references and metaphors. I’m a massive fan of both but what I’m saying is true.


Also my love of Kendrick as an artist has nothing to do with him callin Drake a peado (though its only solidified it for me), I’ve listened to him since 2009 when he released his self titled mix tape. You need to broaden your horizons when it comes to rap music mate, there’s hundreds of new rappers that are top quality, Kendrick’s literally the surface. I’ll tag you on a post I made a few pages back.

 

@Bad Ambassador have listen to some of them mate. They’re all mostly boom bap 90s sounding that you’ll enjoy.

 

I’m familiar with most of them. Old droog I had a lot of time for, he does sound like nas and like joey badass I can respect his flow. You can tell that they are influenced by the older generations of rap. Same with Kendrick. But I dunno mate it’s an acquired taste and I don’t mean that as if to say it’s better than anyone else’s.
But my music is quite special to me, when I was 3 used to get pots and pans and smash them with a wooden spoon on the kitchen floor. When I first heard coolio on top of the pops I was mesmerised, not by the content of what he was saying though it was a different response. Then I heard nas and by that time you basically can’t go back to anything that’s not of a standard of beauty. Hiphop is beautiful and I developed schizophrenia chasing frequencies like they was butterflies. So although I respect the content of Kendrick’s lyrics and the fact he has a lot of substance to his art, it just doesn’t captivate me like hiphop used to.
That’s a funny post here that might make you cringe at me I guess but it’s all good.
I don’t regret my postings much.
We must be different mate, these same tunes I heard when I was a teenager really stuck with me and I play them everyday like a drug. There’s a bigger conversation there also but I like to play with frequencies, I’m making a tune now actually. Maybe it’s a big sign of my lack off development since I was that age? Could be but I’m not scared to find out you know what I mean:

Reminds me of superman or when maeda runs down the wing. Hope you can take a listen, its a rare tune that i can see someone spit some lyrics on, usually my tunes are too unorthadox.
