Cummings looks an outstanding prospect and at 6' 1' he has the physical attributes to go with it too, at only 18.
A new contract with us should be a no brainer.

Get him in the match day squads, if we're 3/4 goals up there's nothing to lose in bringing him on

We're bound to either muck this one up or he will chase the bigger money. Trouble is how do the club hang on to them when they want to leave? It's happened so many times.

Prolific young Celtic striker Daniel Cummings is set to train with the club’s first team next week, CeltsAreHere understands

It comes after the teenager’s free-scoring start to the season, during which he has netted 20 goals across 18 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops’ B team

Cummings is currently away on international duty with Scotland’s under-19s, but when he turns his attention back to Celtic, the young striker will be training with the first team at Lennoxtown later next week.

Still just 18, Cummings will hope to impress manager Brendan Rodgers. The Irishman has already given senior opportunities to the likes of Daniel Kelly, Rocco Vata, Mitchel Frame, and Francis Turley since his return to Celtic last summer

Cummings could be the next youngster to make his senior debut under Rodgers as the Bhoys prepare for what the boss has described as an ‘ultramarathon’ of fixtures between now and March of next year.

Good news. Regardless of anything else having a 3rd striker option to push the other 2 on is good.

Although I totally agree with you in regards of Barca. It does make it a * of a lot easier to play them when you have the quality of lamal, Cubarsi, balde, pedri and Fermin Lopez!

also I think one thing that helps the Spanish youths make appearances, they can have benches with 12 players sat on there. Most we can have is 9 which makes a lot of difference when we have at least 9 players contracted to wages valuing much more of a youth players. If Rodgers benched these for young players there’d be questions of why then they’re still contracted.

maybe that’s an avenue the SFA can look at? But I’d assume they don’t want to help ours or rangers squads (as we have the biggest depth) by giving more option to come off the bench. It would definitely help develop more youngsters in the country

Regarding Cummings, I can’t imagine we haven’t put a deal on the table as he was good last year too. Maybe he’s waiting to see if he gets any chances with the first team before committing? The only success of leaving early is doak but that’s because doak is one of Scotlands top top talents for a long time.

if I was Cummings I’d be looking at what’s happened to Hepburn, Morrison, Vata, Kelly etc. if he signs up to a 3 year deal and gets loaned out for 3 years he’ll still at worst be in the same position as those.

and if it goes well for him he’ll be a first team player

I think it's early to judge Vata as a failure. He's played 10 games, at a higher level than any loan we would have arranged for him. If he's not getting game time at the end of next season then yeah issues but he's currently with a Watford team sat 6th. I think his career will be okay. Maybe he would have gotten game time with us, I'd have had him ahead of Yang.

Kelly looks to have made a mistake, barely played. He'd have been better moving to a league 1 club or staying with us and getting a loan out. He could redeem himself though, it's still early. I'd say Morrison it's still early, apparently earning 5kpw at QPR and he's young.

Luckily for us that no one who has left us at a young age with very limited first team experience has come to anything.

We need him to sign a new deal and loan him out to a decent club or blood him ASAP.

I’ve only seen little of him but he’s one I’ve heard about for years. Seems perfect for the young player as third choice Rodgers has spoken of.

Hope this training with the first team isn’t just the usual last minute pitch to keep him here but he only needs to look at Kelly and Vata to see the grass isn’t always greener. Both would have had comparable minutes with us so far and in Kelly’s case he isn’t egen making squads now.

The fact they haven't done anything should go in our favour when trying to persuade them to stay. Although it’ll probably come down to cash.

Another question I can ask about from the academy is Dan Cummings, he's been scoring quite a lot of goals from the B Team. How do you view him and his first-team prospects potentially in the future?

There's so much involved in a young player getting an opportunity to play, and I would like to think that I've been a coach that all my career I've put in young players, so if you trace my career back as a manager before my 15 years as a youth development coach, I've played players at 16 years of age, 17, 18. So it's not just about scoring goals or performing, it's your mentality, it's your professionalism all these things alongside ability that is what gets you the opportunity so that's always something I'll assess. I think in terms of Daniel's output his goals and his games he's done very well, but like I say, there's lots of things that when I bring in a young player that I consider. Young players will always get a chance here, and there's always a number of factors of why they can and can't get a chance, but the first one is normally ability that I will look at - if they're good enough, they’ll get a chance so you'll hear all these things around Celtic and the pathway and there's not a pathway here and they don't get a chance… If you're good enough you get a chance. Good enough in terms of your game and good enough in your attitude - do that and if you have a little bit of patience you can become a Celtic player like Callum McGregor, like Kieran Tierney, like James Forrest like Tony Ralston, like Stephen Welsh, like Dane Murray who's played some games. You’ll get a chance, but you've got to have the right traits in order to be a Celtic player
