INTERNACIONAL chiefs are planning talks with Celtic in a bid to hammer out a deal to buy Alex Bernabei.

The Hoops flop has been a huge hit for the Brazilian side since being loaned there in March and has three goals and four assists in 30 appearances.

That has prompted Inter bosses to make a move to land the Argentine left-back permanently.

It’s thought they are due to fly to Europe for several recruitment meetings and want to discuss Bernabei’s situation with the Parkhead side.

Wing-back Bernabei’s loan is due to expire in December but his Hoops contract runs until May 2027.

Inter will now try to tempt the Hoops into cutting their losses on a player they signed for £3.75million from Argentine outfit Lanus in 2022.

Since that deal he has managed just 28 appearances for the green half of Glasgow.

However, in plenty more this season he's got more goals and assists than any other full back in the Brasiliero - not to mention countless other categories such as big chances created, interceptions and duels win.

The Porto Alegre currently sit fourth in the league and Bernabei has been arguably their best player.

It has been suggested that the Hoops are holding out for around £10MILLION for the out-of-favour left-back

And that may be out of the Brazilian side's price-range.

Bernabei was at the centre of wild dressing room celebrations earlier this month following Inter's huge 1-0 victory over fierce riva;s Gremio

After the game, the 23-year-old was seen dramatically entering the dressing room at full-time, while belting out a rather unfriendly song.

In the footage, he can be seen chanting about KILLING Gremio

The on-loan Celtic ace chanted: "Gremio, te voy a matar!

Translated, this means "Gremio, I am going to kill you!"

Not sure if it makes me feel better about our scouting because he's clearly a good player just not fit for our system, or worse about our scouting because they signed a player who clearly wasn't fit for our system :giggle1:

There was a lot of talk that the scouts tried to get Ange to go for someone else but it was Ange who overruled and insisted he wanted Bernabei. Not sure how much truth is in that but at Yokohama Marinos he had a bit of a mental left back that was very attack minded so might have been trying to replicate that at Celtic.

We are holding out for 10m I highly doubt that. I am sure if we got close to half that we would be all over that with a sell on clause.

From what we understand about our scouting "department" I'd go with the latter option here.

We've knowingly signed players a manager doesn't know, want or rate. The list is near endless that we don't need to list them.

But even as recently as last summer with Hacksabanovic, we've tried to force a player to stay at the club because the higher ups deemed it so, yet the player and manager both happy to have seen him move on. It turned out that way in the end, but just another point to highlight that folk outwith the footballing departments are meddling too much.

So yeah, I'd be inclined to think Bernie was scouted as a good player, but clearly wasn't wanted by Ange or was suitable for the Ange system. Nor Rodgers it would seem, albeit I do personally think he is more suited to Rodgers over Ange.

The fact he's doing well and worth a fee that makes us a profit, then I'd be inclined to hold on to him.
If he's set on being in South America though, then we need to lower that demand and accept the fee will be less (but not making a loss). Alternatively if he wants to crack Europe, bring him back with a view to loaning him to Portugal or Spain where he would surely suit the league better and would increase his value.

It's interesting how it could be Bernie and Valle as our own left back options next season. Also mildly interesting that Valle could do well here while Bernie does well in Spain (hypothetically speaking).

Cruzeiro monitors the situation of Bernabei, Internacional's full-back
The Argentine player is on loan until the end of the year to the team from Rio Grande do Sul, which has an option to buy the athlete

With the aim of strengthening the team for next season, Cruzeiro continues to pay attention to the 'opportunities' in the market. The club has not officially confirmed this, but is already monitoring the situation of left-back Bernabei, from Internacional.

The 24-year-old player is on loan to Colorado from Celtic, in Scotland, until December 31st. The loan agreement already includes a purchase option, but the team from Rio Grande do Sul has not yet secured the necessary resources to make the investment and guarantee the full-back's permanence

At Inter since March, Bernabei has already played 21 matches, scoring three goals and providing five assists, becoming one of the team's references under coach Roger Machado, who has already expressed his support for the Argentine player's permanence

Sources consulted by O TEMPO Sports confirmed that Cruzeiro is waiting for Inter to make a decision before making any kind of move for the player.

Bernabei began his career at Lanús, in Argentina. In 2022, he had his first international experience, when he was signed by Celtic.

The 'probe' for Bernabei could also be a sign of changes at the left-back position in 2025. After all, Wendell, from Porto, has also been mentioned as one of the candidates to defend Raposa.

At the moment, the squad led by coach Fernando Diniz has Marlon and Kaiqui for the position. During this year, Cruzeiro received inquiries from abroad for its homegrown talent.

If we make a single penny more than we paid for him build a statue to Nicholson on the concourse.

10 million is pie in the sky.

I never thought he struggled physically despite being slight. He was a wee scrapper and could be a dirty wee * reacting to tackles and wanting to hurt them back. Aye he could be pushed away easily aerial duels and big strikers going to his wing and backing in and not knowing how to deal with that. But in general it wasn’t physically or his ability on the ball. His positioning and defensive instincts were non existent, and end product decision making sporadic and wild at times - the most obvious example being through on goal against the Huns, head down running, and squaring the ball instead of shooting. The full time from receiving the ball to running through, there was never anycunt there supporting to try and think to square the ball to. Wasn’t like there was somebody who just didn’t keep up with the run. There was never anyone.

And that was the exaggerated epitome of his decision making.

There’s also the fact he struggled with the professionalism needed here. BR last pre-season seemed to like him as a player and was giving him a chance. He’d turn up late to team meetings etc. he got caught drunk driving. He’s a young guy in a new country in different standards. It wasn’t his talent, it was his brain.
