Kazuyoshi Miura has agreed to a loan deal that will see him join Suzuka Point Getters for the 2022 season. King Kazu will be 55 years old when the season begins, further extending his record as the world’s oldest professional footballer.

The legendary King Kazu began his professional career in 1986, when he debuted for Brazilian side Santos at the age of 19. He played for several clubs in the country, becoming one of the top Japanese players before moving back home in 1990 to join the team now known as Tokyo Verdy.

Kazu won the final two Japan Soccer League titles at Verdy and then the first two J.LEAGUE titles, capturing MVP honors in the inaugural season to boot. He followed that up by becoming the first Japanese player to play in Serie A, moving to Genoa, and then playing in Croatia at Dinamo Zagreb before returning to Japan.

King Kazu was the icon of his generation, but while his contemporaries aged and retired, he kept on playing and transcended eras. He became a fixture at Yokohama FC, spending 16 years at the club and helping them earn promotion to the top flight for the first time in club history.

Now Kazu leaves Yokohama FC on loan for JFL side Suzuka Point Getters, where his unmatched career will continue at age 55. He’s already helped several clubs make history in the top flight, but now he will take on a different challenge - helping the Racers qualify for the MEIJI YASUDA J.LEAGUE for the first time ever.

There is nobody in football quite like King Kazu, and now that inimitable legend moves on to Suzuka.

Brilliant. Id do the exact same tbh.

Reminds me of the guy I was playing basketball against. Were all late 20s at the time playing the masters team. Usually overs 50s with the odd young one. Anyway one player who kept scoring on us. Yes not fast but some shot... he was 92 years old :56: that shall be me! We never even knew his age until he died from cancer. What a star man. 92 running up and down a court against young guys. Still blows my mind, just thought he was one of the 60year olds.

Former Japan striker Kazuyoshi Miura has reached an agreement to play for Portuguese second-division outfit Oliveirense at age 55, a source involved with the matter said Sunday.

Miura, who spent last season on loan from Yokohama FC to Suzuka Point Getters in the fourth-tier Japan Football League, will join Oliveirense until the summer.

The Portuguese club shares a parent company — restaurant operator Onodera Group — with Yokohama FC, which is making its return to the J. League top flight this year.

The latest move by Miura, now in his 38th year as a professional, will see him play in a fifth foreign country following stints in Brazil, Italy, Croatia and Australia.

Miura, who is both Japan’s oldest-ever professional player and goal scorer, is reported to have also had offers from J2 and J3 clubs in addition to Suzuka, where his older brother Yasutoshi is manager.
