It would be a close game. I feel like the running power in the Invincible midfield might give them the edge but then it’s difficult to see the invincible defence handle the current team’s movement up top.

I’d bring Tierney and Sinclair into the current team. I don’t know about midfield. There’s an obvious temptation to roll back the years with McGregor. Brown was unplayable that year too, so maybe Brown, young McGregor and Hatate.

It might be unpopular but I’d be Kyogo up front over Dembele.

Grand old team to play for
I'd have them both with Brooney as a 6 and CalMac as an 8.

MONs team didn't really play good football, not like we are seeing from Rodgers teams anyway, and I mean that with absolutely no disrespect to them bcoz I believe MONs team would beat either the current team or invincibles.

They were an absolute battering ram of a team, a team filled with big, strong, physical players who could play and where a match for anyone and regularly hit teams for 5 or 6.

People often talk about how football has developed over last 20 years and how players are all more athletic and more physical specimens but MONs team had all of that back then.

They also had the greatest striker to pull on the hoops which kind of helped a bit

Current team would pass the invincibles off the park and have too much pace and power all over the park. I loved that invincible team, but I’ve not seen movement and ball speed like it in my short time watching Celtic that could compete with the current team. Our current front 3 would destroy the invincibles back 4, and our current back 4 would cope with the invincibles front 3.

Be a * good game though, no lack of goals, probably go 4-2 to the current team.

    As far as preferring individuals:

Maeda pins teams back, he’s a destroyer of RB’s, turns up anywhere and does the hard dirty yards. As much as I loved Sinclair, I don’t think he had the defensive work rate, so I don’t see the invincibles getting enough of the ball to take that advantage.

Current McGregor is a weapon on the ball, doesn’t have the same grit that Brown had, but Cal is the essential to the spine of the team.

    Tierney is a no brainer.

    AJ for me at RB.

It’s simple for me, Tierney is the only player I’d take for the current team, Rogic, Brown, Sinclair and younger Forrest off the bench.

Would have to average roughly 2.5 goals a game to match it, assuming we get to the final of the Scottish cup and don't advance past the play offs in CL. So it's doable.

Sinclair in this team would take us up several levels, he may not have had the freakishly high work rate of Maeda but he was no slouch either and was unplayable that season. Crazy output from wide.

Tierney as well dovetailing him, we'd be some team with those two in the side now. Not sure if Dembeles power over Kyogos movement would be the better choice - Rogic would get in this team for me.

As a unit though this current side is a lot faster and better defensively so I'd shade it to them, but would be a tight game.

Aye I think our current team beat the invincibles. I know you can’t just base it on a few games, however what we’ve done so far in Europe this season is something the invincible team just weren’t capable of doing. Our keeper and centre halfs are absolutely miles ahead just now and they are all key positions to the way we play, and it’s also why we struggled to play out back then against the top teams in my opinion.

You are spot on regarding Meada and Kyogo etc pressing. It would just cause utter bedlam with the likes of Boyata and Toure/Sviatechenko/Simunovic. I don’t see where the invincible team win. Sinclair was our biggest threat, he would be up against Johnston. I think AJ wins that battle all day long. Dembele was quality, but I’m not sure where the service would come from in a game against the current team.

This team would win. Different level from the invincibles. League was horrendous then too.!A good team obviously but the current is much better but wouldn’t be able to properly judge until the seasons out. Already got 4 more CL points in 2 less games also.

Brown doesn’t get in this team.

    On Sinclair v Maeda

Maeda helps and even bails Taylor out constantly, which is huge - but with a young KT that need disappears and our forwards can actually focus on being forwards.
That's why Sinclair greater ability and goal threat gets nod for me.

On reflection, agree that our current front 3 would murder the old back 4 - so whilst I think individually the invincibles just shade it, if they actually played each other, might be different.
