Up against the club where he spent some of his formative years, the Red Bull graduate showed his old employers just how far he has come under Brendan Rodgers’ during a stirring European fightback at Parkhead

Nicolas Kuhn scored twice as Celtic roared back from an early Christoph Baumgartner goal.

His first of the night – an equaliser after 35 minutes – was the sort of finish Brentford supporters have become accustomed to during Bryan Mbeumo’s time in West London.

And TBR understands that, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United all linked with Mbeumo in recent weeks, Brentford could look north of the border in search of a potential replacement

HITC reported back in May that some of the England’s big-hitters – including Brentford’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur – had expressed an interest in Mbeumo at the start of the summer.

Mbeumo is Stan Collymore’s ‘favourite player’ in the Premier League top flight for a reason.

And while that initial interest did not really turn into anything more serious, Mbeumo is threatening to become a man in high demand heading into 2025. Especially given his form at the beginning of the season and given his contract situation.

The versatile forward – scorer of has eight goals in ten league starts in 2024/25 – is due to become a free-agent in 2026, though Brentford do have the option of extending his stay by a further 12 months.

The Frenchman has also admitted, via an interview with L’Equipe, that he is interested in doing where Ivan Toney could not in sealing a move to one of Europe’s major footballing institutions.

“I have spent five years at Brentford, at a club that has allowed me to grow and pass a milestone. But, yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs,” Mbeumo admitted.

“It is tantalising to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see [what happens].”

Celtic want £25m as Brendan Rodgers lauds Kuhn role in Champions League win
At Celtic, Nicolas Kuhn’s stellar Champions League display serves to greatly enhance his own reputation. After curling a stunning, Mbuemo-esque equaliser in off the post and creating a chance for Daizen Maeda with a glorious, defence-splitting pass, Kuhn then set Celtic on their way to a famous European win as he tapped in on the stroke of half-time.

A weaving run set up another opportunity for Reo Hatate before the Japan international put the result beyond doubt.

In just 16 Celtic appearances this term, former Germany Under 21 international Kuhn has a remarkable nine goals and 10 assists.

And while TBR understands that Celtic have no plans to cash in on a man who arrived as recently as January, the chance to make a substantial profit may be hard to resist provided Brentford are willing to meet that £25 million asking price.

Celtic paid only £3 million to bring Kuhn to Glasgow from Rapid Vienna 10 months ago.

“He’s still young so he still has more to [improve on]. I actually thought his pressing could have been better tonight. But he’s just learning and developing all the time,” Rodgers says of Kuhn, who was recently likened to Bayern Munich speedster Leroy Sane by the official Bundesliga website.

“But it was so exciting tonight he had the ball [against Leipzig]. And obviously getting the two goals is great for him, especially having worked at RB Leipzig before as a young player.”

Bit too early to let him go at the moment but look at what player investment does...we play well in the CL and can turn £3m into £25m... forget the duopoly business plan, that's dead...Start the CL business plan.

Plus...tell Brentford to eff off as well lol

It wouldnt necessarily be comparing him to dross at all. I never said abada was dross and we all know it wasnt. It would just be making a comparison that would fail to really satisfy or complement his ability.

Accept the point that you might be comparing one aspect of his game, but Abada flattered to deceive a lot of the time and couldnt sustain his form enough to hold down his starting place in the team.
I agree that he was good at making back post runs, but on the ball he seldom best his man 1v1 and more often than not cut inside. Abadas final product could be very erratic and frustrating also.
Kuhn is showing a lot more ability on the ball and if he sustains this form will far exceed Abadas best numbers in a season. He might even beat Abadas best by the winter break. Kuhn for me, is achieving levels of performance this season that Abada didnt reach.

It was a comparison to the one attribute, and it was the one that Abada excelled at. Don’t think anyone would be arguing against the heights of form or Abada being able to replicate what Kuhns good at.

I’m pretty certain the one thing Rodgers will be wanting more of into his game is scoring positions and finishing. And you know something? I think we’re seeing that he’s doing that as well. Because while the 1st against RBL was glorious, his 2nd is from one of those positions Abada was very good at, and sniffing out that opportunity. He’s not naturally the finisher, but he’s learning to be.

And he’s getting more natural at doing it week by week. But those sort of runs that Abada made ghosting in at the back post, it’s not a bad example for what he can add to his game.

He’s still got levels to go up imo, I always deel like he’s playing within himself even when he’s ripping it up against RBL.

RBL performance is the game I think we’ve seen that regardless of the ebb and flow of the game he’ll be the player that shows how good he is and will change the game. And thats where that goal came from the equaliser.

The only other game I seen that was the other end of the spectrum and it was Falkirk.

RBL though, he had a point to prove, for one most Germans * hate them and he’s also a German who was at them and they said he wasn’t good enough. Was he * letting the opportunity go by to prove them right, and he destroyed them. And made the point with his Man of the Match interview.

That was him confident and unleashed. There was a wee moment not highlighted much he took the ball in guys around him in our half, and beat the three of them. That was him knowing how * good he is. There’s been some moments I agree with you when we’ve been up against it he’s played within himself a bit. But midweek? Nah, he was making sure they felt everything he can do.

After the goal we conceded and the period us under pressure there was 2 standouts of calmness playing us back into the game and taking the game to them. Kuhn and Calmac. I expect it from McGregor, I was delighted seeing it in Kuhn.

You wrote a lot and spent a lot of time explaining what nobody disagrees on. The only thing I’ll disagree with you on is the use of the word underwhelming and that’s subjective.

As has been pointed out to you many times, the whole discussion is about Kuhn increasing his output by improving one aspect of his game that Abada was excellent at. You even admitted it until you said “but…” and went back to comparing their whole games again.

Aye, just because one player might have something that we would like the other one to add to his game, doesn’t mean the guy better at that aspect is the better player or even a direct comparison.

Case in point, when Abada was here and Jota and Maeda were the wingers, what you said there was something everyone said they could learn off of the guy behind them in the pecking order. Can mind Jota in the 1-1 game against the Huns when he ghosted in past Barisic at the back post we all described it as an Abada like goal.

Its not really subjective at all. It doesnt mean a comparison to dross, but a failing to satisfy the level he is actually playing at.
Abada was decent and had good spells for us, but he was never really consistent and was never really undroppable. Despite the decent numbers he achieved.
At the present moment, Kuhn is the first name on the team sheet and he is sustaining that form. And whilst he isnt getting in at the back post, Kuhn does a lot of work further back in the field and is a better ball carrier. I just think there is so many aspects to Kuhns game that makes that one area he maybe hasnt shown an irrelevance as he is so much more effective to the team.

The 25million seems to just be the standard benchmark.
Stick another 10 on that and we promise not to laugh at you when we reject it

Forget this £25M apparent ceiling price too, * is that all about, look at some of the mad fees Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal can push for, that's now Tierney, Jota and O'Riley left for around £25M each, next time we sell it starts at £30M minimum, need to get this £25M ceiling price to *

We got £26m upfront for O’Riley with £4m
Of very achievable add ons, which now he is fit won’t probably take him much time to have us cashing them in.

I know we need to switch the dial on our top price but getting that sort of fee within 2 years on signings we paid £1.5m, £2.8m and £6.5m for upfront is not bad going. The trick for me is getting better at the recruitment bit where there are at least some shoots of recovery from January onwards.

I do think the market of signing early 20’s players who maybe haven’t quite made it in big academies but have gone on to do well at a lesser club isn’t a bad market to shop in. These large club academies scout players from all over and it is inevitable good players don’t make it through or are cast of when these systems aren’t run well. Just look at the amount of talent that PSG have had in their academy and just discarded, now playing for top teams around the world.

Sure by £1M, but I'm talking about smashing the £30M barrier up front, we should have got at least £30M for Matt up front, at least

Sounds like a hun transfer strategy tbh.

'We want this amount and you will pay it ya *!'

We'd get laughed at if that was our strategy.

    * are you actually talking about?

£30M is only £4M more than they paid up front, not £40M more, so how tf was pushing for £30M for O'Riley a "hun transfer strategy"?

The huns haven't had a player at their club since their 2012 inception that comes anywhere close to the quality of O'Riley, that's why them asking for moronic sums for their pish players was so laughable, pushing for £30M for O'Riley is not 'laughable' whatsoever when that would have still been a bargain buy for Brighton, what a confusing post from yourself

Regardless, had Brighton not paid the extra we would have just kept a player who was already under a long term contract for yet another 6 months at least and he would have added even more quality to our side in the Champions League, then with an even greater performance in this seasons Champions League would have had other clubs willing to pay the £30M fee
