My gran has more potential than Barron and she's dead.

My big issue with signing him is where does he fit in right now unless someone leaves? We have a really strong midfield 5 and his game time would be limited.

Sign him in January, leave him at Motherwell the rest of the season then a loan down England for a season then back to us

    Nice one :giggle2:

We could sign him and possibly loan him out to Aberdeen or Hibs, or some other SPL team like that.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility either, that one of our midfielders may leave/be transferred
in January, given the queue to get in our midfield.

Wouldnt be sending anyone to Hibs at the moment as they are abysmal. Motherwell is the place for him unless we can offer him minutes.
Rodgers will know where the squad is and if Reo has any ambition to leave at the end of the season, it may make good sense to try and buy him in January and loan back or arrange the transfer for the summer.

Consider the boat missed on him, 5-6m he’ll be roughly IMO and he’ll have a huge amount of options, perfect as a Cal Mac long term successor but he seems to have his head screwed on so will probably go somewhere he will play games.

The loan back to Motherwell ship has sailed because Celtic are not breaking a Scottish transfer record to loan him back.

Clarke should be embarrassed picking that little gimp Barron ahead of him, I’d have him cleaning Lennon Miller’s boots.

I think it's more why would he want loaned back to Motherwell? How does that improve him as a player? He will want to be among top level coaches, top level players, with top level facilities. He'll be Italy bound and do reasonably well from there.

Good point, the loan back move probably only works as a sweetener to get the price down.

A lot of people still look at SPFL players as though the market hasn’t changed completely over the last decade or so.

If they’re complete players, they’re already beyond us, or at least have enough options on the table that we’d likely need to guarantee them first team football and have them among our top earners.

The days of getting them for buttons is long gone. He’s obviously got potential, and still has a lot of developing to do. The latter true for almost every player we sign.

Someone mentioned him being capable of being a long term successor to CalMac. No idea of that’s accurate, but if it is then £6m is a steal.

He’s no where near a £4m player, McCowan is strides ahead of him. I accept his age the argument of his ‘potential’. Is he anymore impressive than McGrath at Aberdeen, we seen his quality a few weeks ago for their first goal.

Midfield needs one addition in January and it’s a holding midfielder unless engles is long term idea there.

A miller fee would be better utilised in the wide areas to supplement khun and maeda.

    We've got a * load of money.

We can afford both and should be buying both.

If Rodgers likes the look of him we should go for him. I think it was this thread or one of the others earlier. Our position for Scottish trained players is really poor and the ones who do contribute are largely ageing players.

Whether he is good enough to make an impact now or not is another debate but he is definitely the best young talent in the league and we can afford him. I would be surprised if it was anymore than £4m to buy him certainly upfront. Motherwell want to beat their Turnbull sale and £4m would do that, they got good money for Theo Bair in the summer (£1.5m) for a player they got on a free and have also had a run to a cup semi final this year so financially they will be having a good year for them.

£4m, plus a Miller back on loan and a sell on would see them sell I am sure. The question is if the player would fancy it.

The thing about him is he isn't really suited to playing for us, he doesn't fit any of our midfield positions. If he was like a young O'Riley or Rogic or Hatate we'd sign him and he'd still make a wee impact from the bench and odd game but he doesn't really have good movement and creativity and the ability to turn on a ball or beat men and stuff.

He'd more be used in McGregor's position but he's that far off McGregor as well that he'd be a liability.

So where does he even get game time for the next 2-3 year. We aren't really in the position to spend £5million and then loan a guy out for 2+ years and he probably wouldn't want that either.

But I also wonder who is really going to sign him, he might go for much cheaper since teams probably won't be queueing up for him as they think.

I haven't seen that much of him. What are his strengths and weaknesses? Is DM his best position?

He's an attack minded central midfielder. Strengths are creativity, technique, passing, scoring, providing assists. Has room for improvement in his conditioning and physique but that'll come naturally as he gets older, as he's only 18.

He’s a lot more than a £4m player probably. Look at Liverpool paying £4.2m potentially rising to £7m for Calvin Ramsay.

16 years ago we paid £4.4m I think it was for Scott Brown, who apparently wasn’t worth it either that fee, even everyone agreeing a player we couldn’t allow to go by us. By the end up £4.4m looked like nothing.

Lennon Miller they should (depending on his contract if he’s still got 2+ years) be demanding £8m upwards. With a sell on fee. They won’t go that high but its not much money to clubs that will be looking at him now. English clubs anyway, Serie A interest they could go £6m and add ons easily I think.

I desperately want us to sign him, but think we’re probably going to be priced out now, not for not affording the fee he’ll go for but willing to pay that for the role he’ll initially come in as. He’s a special talent though. I don’t know if it’s just the 10 or so games I’ve caught him in being impressive as *, but he really * is from what I’ve seen

Boy looks excellent, could easily make an impression with our midfield.

    Excellent again yesterday.
